Just found out that I bought it in March and then have been charged for it again in December. I haven,t watched a single movie and have only brought about 3 things off amazon this year. What is going on.? Has this happened to anyone else?

That's just you loopy. Amazon have a no quibble refund policy. You want to return something? No bother, you say you didn't get an order, they believe you. You say you don't want prime, no need to worry, they will refund

Personally I think it was glaringly obvious when placing an order that the free delivery was on Amazon Prime. That's why I never select it.

Amazon Prime is fantastic! I think here in the US we have more/better AP movies, but even the "free" fast shipping is worth every penny for us. We shop at Amazon A LOT. Currently loving having all our detergents, shampoos, bin liners etc delivered straight to our door with Amazon Pantry. We now never run out just because I forgot to buy it in the supermarket!

And it's really not hard or particularly hidden to end AP. I just did it on the UK site after opening one at Xmas and it was literally 3-4 clicks of the mouse.

woi1968 is right and that this is a candidate for Watchdog off You & Yours . I know that I didn't sign up for a free trial. I only trade through Amazon if I feel there is no alternative and I am quite sure this is a very shady practice.
Thank goodness I always check my credit card bills. They have refunded it without quibble but I'm sure people who are busier than me just don't know they've 'signed up' and pay it by default.

Yes, thanks for this, I'd done the same at the start of December - it didn't even give me free postage on the items that mattered and they didn't arrive before Christmas. Hmm Angry

I cancelled the Prime and an automatic pop up said it would give me a refund as I hadn't used the service.

expatinscotland · 23/01/2015 19:23

How do your cancel it?

NiamhNext · 23/01/2015 19:27

Um...sign in...go to Prime account (small link at top or side) and click on manage prime (another small link) then there's 3 buttons, click the one to end/exit.

I wrote an article about this which explains it a bit and I have also explained how to get out of the membership and get your money back if that helps :-)

I haven't read all 7 pages of this thread... but basically, if you want something free delivery off Amazon, and select Amazon Prime, you are signed up, is that right? And if you forget to cancel, you get charged?

It's just, I have just tried to buy something on Amazon and it says, hey, you get free delivery if you are in the UK, and it comes the next day, with Amazon Prime. At no point does it say it is a trial or that you will have to pay later if you don't cancel! It implies you get it free because you are in the UK, not because you are signing up to anything!

Is this right, that they are just trying to hook you in on the basis that deliveries used to be free from Amazon, so you will think it is the same deal?

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 30/06/2015 13:23

BOUGHT, not BROUGHT. Different words.

And despite lots of people saying they were signed up magically by fairies without ever clicking in anything, its not true. You not only have to agree to terms and conditions, you also get emails from amazon confirming that you have signed up. And then you get the Prime logo all over your amazon account, AND you have prime delivery options every time you buy something.
If you haven't noticed any of that, its really your own fault.
