To think there is nothing wrong with the names I have chosen?

I have boy girl twins that are three months old now. Their names are Fox and Dana. I think they're fine names and suit them well but almost everyone smirks or out right laughs when they find out their names.

Um, why? Am I missing something?

I met a little girl called Chanel, but the parents spelled it with 2 ns do she was called channel! Why don't people check spellings?

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 12:07

was her middle name Four?

mooboos · 06/01/2015 12:46

I know two brothers in their 30s called Kylie and Jason. I wish I was joking!

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2015 12:58

My first job after leaving school at 17 was in a preschool seriously you couldn't move for scotts jasons and charenes (no kylie though) and we had twins scott and jason .

DawnMumsnet · 06/01/2015 13:04

@ZingTheGreat

Dawn

we are having fun though. can this be considered a jester (entertaining troll, if I get the gist) thread? Grin

There ought to be a name for trolling with no malicious intent. Drolling?

Dictionary definition of droll - adjective - curious or unusual in a way that provokes dry amusement.

Also droll - noun - archaic - a jester or entertainer; a buffoon.

So there you have it. It's a droll. Grin

Whatever, we'll be leaving this thread to run if you're all enjoying it.

Thumbwitch · 06/01/2015 13:27

yay - thanks Dawn! ThanksWine etc.

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 13:32

thank you Dawn

I can't believe you are armed with a dictionary! Grin
I still think jester is better, tech could make a little hat.
we could even put it in titles instead of "light-fricking-hearted" Wink

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 13:33

"dry amusement"? then droll certainly won't do. not with all the people PTSL!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 06/01/2015 13:39

I went to primary school with a Chris Peacock
It wasn't even noticed at school. In fact I didn't realise until I was in my twenties. He was a nice chap.

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 06/01/2015 13:48

I went to school with a John Crichton.

Which would not have been so bad if i hadn't been a complete sci fi nut....

TooManyMochas · 06/01/2015 15:08

I actually had two pet rats called Fox and Dana in my teens. I realise this may not make the OP feel better.

NorksAreMessy · 06/01/2015 15:13

Do you remember the brilliant 'sub-perfect cup cakes in the bin' droll thread? I loved that one

(That was me testing the word 'droll' in a sentence)
:)

Sunnymeg · 06/01/2015 15:17

There were twins at DS's primary called Stanley and Oliver.

Choccyhobnob · 06/01/2015 16:25

I have known a Jennifer Taylor for 20 years and never thought about Jenny Taylor! She's always known as Jen though.

Showy · 06/01/2015 16:34

One of the loveliest MNers I know is a Jenny Taylor. Her brilliance transcends your puerile minds. Grin

NB: It's not me. I'm named after a fucking Beach Boys song.

Thumbwitch · 06/01/2015 21:02

Yes the one I know is also known as Jen, never Jenny. But she does know about the implications. Yes, Showy, I know it's puerile! Grin

ignatiusjreilly · 06/01/2015 22:39

postchildrenpregranny - my dh knows Leo Minster! Definitely the same one as those are his siblings' names.

I just read your post to dh who said Leo has just named his son after another English town so obviously hasn't been too scarred by the name Smile

Pengyquin · 07/01/2015 14:20

Austin Healey was in my brother's class at school.

He was named after the car. Fact. Grin

QuintlessShadows · 07/01/2015 14:24

Your next baby should be nicknamed "cigarette smoking man"

Thumbwitch · 07/01/2015 14:24

There you go then - poor bugger! Or maybe not - maybe he liked it. Grin

ithoughtofitfirst · 07/01/2015 14:34

Gave dd a Polish middle name. Turns out there's an actress with the name who pronounces it wrong differently so people will probably think that's how it's pronounced. Ah well.
