To think there is nothing wrong with the names I have chosen?

I have boy girl twins that are three months old now. Their names are Fox and Dana. I think they're fine names and suit them well but almost everyone smirks or out right laughs when they find out their names.

Um, why? Am I missing something?

OP posts:

Foxx is a much better spelling.

EatDessertFirst · 05/01/2015 23:01

I used to get a regular customer in the greengrocers where I used to work who had called her g/g twins Porsche (pronounced Porscha) and Mercedes. They'd be about 16-18 yo now.

I had to fight not to laugh. Sorry if you are an MNer.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 05/01/2015 23:02

Thumbnuts-one of my "rellies" posted a list of 2014's most Bogan Names. Much yooneekity on there. funny as all her three have very yoon eek names

thegreylady · 05/01/2015 23:07

I like Peter and Ree-Peta for b/g twins :)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 05/01/2015 23:10

Dd is adamant that her friends expected little brother is to be called Bus. I can't figure out if there is a real name she has misheard or her friend being cheeky!

weegiemum · 05/01/2015 23:14

There are supposed to be (probably an urban myth) twins in Glasgow called Armani and Versace. Imagine that in a broad weegie accent being yelled across the park!

wowfudge · 05/01/2015 23:21

EatDessert - was it not Portia (as in Shakespeare's character) and Mercedes was a girl's name long before it was a car (named after the maker's daughter), but the combination of the two must have been a joke on the part of the parents. Please God.

There's an episode of Cath and Kim about choosing a baby name. Bloody hilarious. When Kim has finally decided on a name for the baby she's expecting her mother then goes and calls her new dog by said different, unusual name.

wonderstuff · 05/01/2015 23:22

I went to school with Marlon Brando, no one took the piss because a) we at the time didn't know about the actual actor, and b) his big brother Errol was quite 'ard.

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 23:24

I propose triplets being named Kim, Bear & Lee

oldestmumaintheworld · 05/01/2015 23:31

This must be a wind-up. Nobody is dumb enough, are they? This is like a trip back to the sixties when pop stars called their kids things like Moonboot and Zowie. Mind you, a registrar friend had to talk a couple out of calling their baby Pebble recently.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 05/01/2015 23:31

There's a Fox who lives in our village, he must be about 12 or 13 I think. He's got gorgeous red hair.

Years ago I met a woman who was pregnant with identical girl twins. As several of us there were pregnant we started talking about baby names, and she said she was going to call the twins Tulip and Honeysuckle. We all fell about laughing, and then asked her what she was really planning on calling them. She glared at us very hard and said "As I just said, Tulip and Honeysuckle" Confused Confused

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/01/2015 23:33

What a load of nasty comments! Fox & Dana are perfectly nice, normal names. An association with an old 90's TV show is hardly relevant nowadays is it?

I completely sympathise with the OP - I get the same reaction to my twins Honey & Bea's names all the time Sad.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/01/2015 23:34

...as does my Dsis with her twins Beau & Belle.

Postchildrenpregranny · 05/01/2015 23:48

We had friends surname Minster who called their first Leo .I kid you not .Lost touch so no idea what he felt about it when older .
The other children were Lyall ,Quona and Jack(!)

Myfourblondies · 05/01/2015 23:54

My husband went to school with b/b twins called Mark and Spencer. The parents must have loved the shop! I kid you not

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 23:56

just remembered, SIL knows a brother & sister called Sam and Ella.

they are not English they never say "and" - it's only funny to us

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 23:59

i really think it's unfair how NDN idolises one child but despises the other.
I mean it's ok to call him Beauty, but poor little Beast...I feel so sorry for herSad

Hi Zing! HNY!

StarsOfTrackAndField · 06/01/2015 02:16

This has to be a wind up, as I refuse to believe that an obsessive Sci-Fi/X files fan has ever managed to enjoy sexual congress with another human being.

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 06/01/2015 02:47

Zing - happy to oblige Wink

ohwhatfuckery - it's shocking, isn't it? Grin

I never understand why people with the surname Taylor call their daughter Jennifer...

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 09:19

has anyone seen 2 Broke girls (or whatever it's called, the ones with the muffins).
there was a set of twins in it, called Brad and Angelina. Grin
you'd have to have guts (or no compassion) do that in RL

Dwerf · 06/01/2015 09:30

I always thought of Fox Talbot whenever I hear the name Fox, but I've just googled and it's not his first name but his mother's maiden name as another surname but without a hyphen (well disappointed).

I once saw a birth announcement for twins who were called Aaf and Baf. Seriously. Except it was written AAF and BAF, so I can only hope they were initials. Still very odd.

EugenesAxe · 06/01/2015 09:36

lougle - you made me laugh even if nothing else did
