To think there is nothing wrong with the names I have chosen?

I have boy girl twins that are three months old now. Their names are Fox and Dana. I think they're fine names and suit them well but almost everyone smirks or out right laughs when they find out their names.

Um, why? Am I missing something?

Has to be a wind up. No one could have come up with Fox and Dana by accident, surely?
Unless....

Yes OP. Everyone who smirks knows about the X Files. EVERYONE. They know about Mulder and Scully. Mulder and Scully even made it into a popular song - THAT's how well known they are. www.metrolyrics.com/mulder-and-scully-lyrics-catatonia.html

Snake?!

Oh fuck off zing was it really?!

Brilliant.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2015 21:11

Zing I am still me. Smile

ElizabethLemon · 05/01/2015 21:14

Do they believe?

Andcake · 05/01/2015 21:15

Hysterical - I think I would have problems keeping a straight face too...if this is for real. Read it out to DP who thinks it has to be a joke!
Dana is an ok name I know one fox and think it's an unfortunate name makes me think of people calling a sexy woman a fox not the animal for some reason.
Google files - nice interesting characters just a bit weird to name twins after them. It's a bit like calling twins Sherlock and Watson!

anothernumberone · 05/01/2015 21:15

My twins are called Dora and Boots. They are really popular with 3 year olds. Congrats on Fox and Dana. They are beautiful names. Ignore the bad vibes from others. The names are probably a bit alien to them.Smile

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 21:16

it thought

fuck off is about right! it did happen. i don't know how they kept a straight face.
i was just thinking i should make it my lunch time mission to always check the Birthday cards.
there was a Tom and a Holly too. That was weird

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2015 21:16

Shouldn't this be moved to the correct topic? Grin

SparklingCurrant · 05/01/2015 21:17

That's all I think of when I hear the name.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2015 21:18

Thanks Zing. Smile

simbacatlivesagain · 05/01/2015 21:18

Do you say Dana as in irish singer with odd eye make u or DAAAYYYYNNNNAAA as in american Tv?

I am sure that no registrar would allow you to call a child fox. Actually we can check as every year a full list of all names is published- we may have to wait a few months

Was bechster pronounced 'bec - ster' as in a naff '80's nickname for Rebecca?

iklboo · 05/01/2015 21:20

Trust no-one!

Pishedorf · 05/01/2015 21:21

zing snake is up there on Cbeebies with the birthday card made for twins (boy/girl) called Yoshi and Peach. How Ceri read those names out loud without laughing I have no idea! It was on about 2 years ago now.

Viviennemary · 05/01/2015 21:21

Fox is really silly. Dana isn't great but Fox is ridiculous.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 05/01/2015 21:22

Do you think you have to give CBeebies pronunciation guidance?

nilbyname · 05/01/2015 21:24

Well....if this is real and you are not an x files superfan., then UNLUCKY!
