To think there is nothing wrong with the names I have chosen?

I have boy girl twins that are three months old now. Their names are Fox and Dana. I think they're fine names and suit them well but almost everyone smirks or out right laughs when they find out their names.

Um, why? Am I missing something?

for those who like to reminisce.

Grin PMSL @ Yoshi and Peach

thanks for that gem

yes, Bechster was pronounced as Bexter.

And FWIW I met a set of twins called Cinnamon and Vanilla once. I wonder when we run out place, animal, food names and start on building materials.
Brick and Mortar anyone?Grin

Pregnantagain7 · 05/01/2015 21:30

I begged dp to let me have Fox as a middle name for our last. I love it especially as there was a strong chance Ds was going to be a red head.

Bair · 05/01/2015 21:31

Ok, new MN game. Send in Birthday cards to CBeebies with the most ridiculous names/combos. Zing can judge as she's already made room in her schedule.

Hassled · 05/01/2015 21:31

They're laughing because they're thinking of Dana, Ireland's Eurovision winner in 1970, and that dress she wore singing "All Kinds of Everything".

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 21:32

Of course Fox wouldn't be banned! It's a perfectly reasonable name in comparison with some.

Bair I think Bairzing would make a good'un pronounced Darren or something

DandyHighwayman · 05/01/2015 21:35

D'ya reckon people have called their kids Lol or Pmsl or things like that?

My mum is a retired midwife and once looked after a woman who chose a name for her child using her "favourite letters of the alphabet"

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 05/01/2015 21:47

I know a child called Izzak. I'm pretty sure it's a yooneek spellnig, rather than illiteracy. But then I'm in Australia, there are a LOT of yooneek spellings and appalling names here - MN would have collective heart failure. Grin

simbacatlivesagain · 05/01/2015 21:49

You would think if you wanted to call you child CHARDONNAY you could at least buy a bottle and check the spelling- or pop down the supermarket 1st.

DandyHighwayman · 05/01/2015 21:51

Pmsl would be prn Pimsel, like Damsel

Chortle!

Bair · 05/01/2015 22:14

DH and I have been choosing baby names with DS today. I think we'll just go with Dave.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 05/01/2015 22:14

I always fancied Sago and Semolina for b/g twins. I thought it would have a nicely upmarket Hugo and Selina vibe with a foody twist.

ZingTheGreat · 05/01/2015 22:43

i am calling my dog Yooneek! Grin Grin Grin
thank you for that. It's beautiful

We used to tell DS he had a really long name including 'oompa loompa'. We had to stop & come clean when he started school and proudly told his new teacher his 'full' name. Her face when she asked if we'd provided them with all the correct information when we registered him was a picture.

BadtzMaru · 05/01/2015 22:54

I'm planning to call my twins Pine and Apple cos I love christmas trees and Gwynnie Paltrow. Can't foresee any problems with that combo.

Quietattheback · 05/01/2015 22:54

I have met a Trinity and Neo pair, I shit you not.

They had an older brother called... Ryan! Actually, Ryan was his middle name, his first name was Morpheus (still not lying) but went by his middle name.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 05/01/2015 22:57

I called my twins Kari and Oke

gingee · 05/01/2015 23:00

To be fair the x files started in 92 didn't it?? Lots of young mums would have been babies or not even born then!
