To think there is nothing wrong with the names I have chosen?

I have boy girl twins that are three months old now. Their names are Fox and Dana. I think they're fine names and suit them well but almost everyone smirks or out right laughs when they find out their names.

Um, why? Am I missing something?

I know a Fox. Took a little getting used to, but I like it. After all, plenty of Germans are called Wolf. Not too keen on Dana though. I remember a brand of Luncheon Meat (Ugh) called that.

MehsMum · 06/01/2015 09:50

I used to see a family at swimming where the kids were called Harley, Bentley and Mercedes. The mother was expecting her fourth; can't remember what she called it, think it was Austin everybody was full of bright ideas like Datsun and Hyundai

Every time she yelled their names in the showers I boggled.

The OP has to be a wind-up, though. But I swear those kids at swimming were real.

My mum accidentally gave my brother an unfortunate celebrity name. Said celebrity is a legend but it has resulted in decades of piss taking.

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 10:40

who is Jenny Taylor?

lougle · 06/01/2015 10:51

Eugenesaxe - I aim to please Smile

FlipFlippingFlippers · 06/01/2015 11:01

I know twin Oliver and Olivia through a friend of a friend of a friend type situation. They definitely exist. I did a massive Shock face when I found out. Perfectly nice names but you surely can't put them together!

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 06/01/2015 11:07

I always thought that Austin Healey's parents had a particularly cruel streak - after all, they only stopped making those cars a few years before he was born, they must have known about them!

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 11:07

aah, like Helen Back

I geddit

HappyAgainOneDay · 06/01/2015 11:08

Is your surname Hunt or Trot, OP?

Could the name Fox be short for something else. Let's think of something ....

Erm... Foxham? Foxment? Foxeter? There are lots of names that you could elongate Fox to. Grin

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 11:09

better still:

Chris Peacock

Ophelia Kok

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 06/01/2015 11:10

Or, and I genuinely knew one, Andrew Peacock. Except he was called Drew. Grin

ZingTheGreat · 06/01/2015 11:11

HopefulHamster · 06/01/2015 11:11

Hoppinggreen · 06/01/2015 11:16

Our Chemistrt teacher was Dr Hunt ( known as Doc Hunt - say it quickly a few times)
He was as well, used to throw board rubbers back when it was allowed!!

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2015 11:16

*I get the same with my two, Bert and Ernie.

Really don't get the joke confused*

Genius!

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2015 11:17

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2015 11:17

FFS! I was trying to bold! I'll ask the kids Fred and Ginger to help

DropYourSword · 06/01/2015 11:20

Well I think you're all being very mean. I sympathise with the OP. I get exactly the same response for my twin boys and I just don't understand. It's not funny to be laughed at. Tom is doing ok, but Jerry really takes it to heart.
