I think there's a lot of macho posturing going on behind the scenes here, with OA (and those who bankroll it) not wanting to be seen to be bowing to public pressure from wimmin. However, the shit will only have started hitting the fan if they go ahead.

clam · 06/01/2015 23:03

The point I was trying to ask, badly, (on the other thread) was, who is worth more to OA, Sports Direct or the two smaller companies put together?

clam · 06/01/2015 23:03

Not sure that's phrased any better, actually.

ilovesooty · 06/01/2015 23:12

They can take Karl Massey's filthy money nut I suspect it will do them no good ultimately.

spence82 · 06/01/2015 23:14

Heard a rumour from a friend who works in sports journalism saying that he will be signed and it will be announced tomorrow.

meditrina · 06/01/2015 23:15

I'm not sure how much weight is being attached to Ed Miliband's view in this (though widely reported today). Clegg has also spoken against hasn't he?

I think the news emerging that the Attorney General is reviewing the CE website (potential contempt of court) might give people pause for thought too.

clam · 06/01/2015 23:16

What has Karl Massey got on Simon Corney? Or on any of the other decision-makers at OA?

I just do not understand the difficulty here. Regardless of whether you agree with his conviction, the guy's completely toxic, so how can he possibly be worth the hassle he's causing?

clam · 06/01/2015 23:17

And I suspect spence's friend is right. They're going ahead with this.

YonicSleighdriver · 06/01/2015 23:22

Clegg spoke out on SUFC as he's a Sheffield Mp.

clam · 06/01/2015 23:27

Anyone else feel totally depressed at this whole shebang? How did football ever get to be this corrosive? This case highlights everything that is wrong with our money, celebrity and status-obsessed society.

TheOfficialPan · 06/01/2015 23:33

Isn't football highly competitive? Aren't there oodles of good players who haven't raped anyone that OAFC could sign?

Yonic I played the beautiful game (sic) to a reasonable standard, and have an unblemished slate. I'll get in touch with OA. (may need a bit of conditioning training...).

IF that bit about Sports Direct is true that is genuinely scary as there is an implication for all footie sponsors.

PhaedraIsMyName · 06/01/2015 23:34

Well they are lawyers so no suprise they have no morals

That adds so much to the discussion. I'm a solicitor. I was shocked when saw the link as I thought inititially it was from a firm I deal with regularly with a similar name. Thankfully it isn't.

I remain shocked at the poor sentence construction and grammatical errors, especially in the second paragraph.

clam · 06/01/2015 23:37

"IF that bit about Sports Direct is true"

IT IS NOT TRUE!!!! I was surmising a "what if..." scenario!!!

YonicSleighdriver · 06/01/2015 23:38

Poor clam Flowers it did make sense in the original context...

timtam23 · 06/01/2015 23:39

There are a lot of posts on the OAFC Facebook page saying that whether CE is signed or not, this has changed their club forever as it has caused a huge rift between those supporters who are horrified and those who are welcoming him in. A fair bit of resentment towards the board/directors who may well walk away at some point and leave the club to sort this mess out.

TheOfficialPan · 06/01/2015 23:41

sorry clam - just got in and (stupidly) speed reading. Blush

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 06/01/2015 23:53

Karl Massey must really really really want his daughter to be a WAG.

Signed the new petition. Sigh.

I also fear he will be signed and Karl Massey will be a shiny new sponsor for Oldham. It's a whole new page in the "daddy, I want a pony!" scenario isn't it.

Sorry ^that might be offensive - but it's just so ugh.

ilovesooty · 06/01/2015 23:56

It's a whole new page in the "daddy, I want a pony!" scenario isn't it

I agree. I hope Massey rots in hell.

YonicSleighdriver · 07/01/2015 00:00

What's Massey going to do next? Buy ten more players and start chedwyn united?

VikingVolva · 07/01/2015 00:09

I don't think that when people posted that his FIL had promised him a job, they realised it meant he's pay for this one.

(it reminds me of Draco's father getting him a place on the Quidditch team by buying new broomsticks).

TheOfficialPan · 07/01/2015 00:09

petition at 60,000.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 07/01/2015 00:10

Anyone else feel totally depressed at this whole shebang? How did football ever get to be this corrosive?

Yes, totally. And I don't know.

There were several posts on the last thread from people with first hand experience of the culture within pro football - and the words entitled, and treating women as playthings, seem to crop up a lot.

CE and CM are lauded on his ghastly website for "telling the truth" Oh big wow! Well done boys! Fact is they could hardly have done otherwise, a host of cctv, taxi driver and night porter evidence meant they had to. The real shocker is that they are unashamed of their behaviour that night - that the only concession to decency CE makes is that he's sorry for cheating on Natasha.

Ohfourfoxache · 07/01/2015 00:11

Hope to god he isn't signed. And that the backlash is significant enough for other clubs to take a step back and really think about any plans to sign him.

I can't believe that he is such a good player that signing him would be worh all the controversy, aggravation and bad publicity?

It would be very interesting to see what their transfer list looks like if he is signed. Personally I wouldn't want to work with such a vile individual, I wonder how many players would be happy to stay at OAFC? Of course if they are all of a similar mindset then the transfer list may well be exceedingly short Hmm

clam · 07/01/2015 00:13

"he's sorry for cheating on Natasha."

Yeah right, Ched. Like that was the first time you'd ever done it. Or the last.

clam · 07/01/2015 00:15

I don't imagine for one moment that he's the only footballer to have behaved in this way on a night out. I bet it's rife.

But if there's one good thing to come out of this whole seedy mess, let's hope it's that a few of them realise that it's not a great way to behave.
