Allison Pearson is now living in some alternative reality where she considers herself to be under some sort of threat from Jean Hatchet:

Allison Pearson ?@allisonpearson 57m57 minutes ago
Why should I be threatened for expressing my views on Ched Evans? The intolerance of illiberal liberals is wicked. #JeSuisCharlie

Confused I think I need to step away from Twitter.

EveDallasRetd · 09/01/2015 13:45

Lots of tweets going to the telegraph condemning her though, thankfully.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 09/01/2015 13:53

She called Jean Hatchet a jihadist. Seriously.

I have no words.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 09/01/2015 13:56

"@ (other Twitter user) @JeanHatchet Don't bother reasoning with her Steve. She's a jihadist. Wants to kill everyone who doesn't agree with her."

LineRunner · 09/01/2015 13:57

Well, it's certainly all very revealing.

limitedperiodonly · 09/01/2015 14:01

I didn't have a high opinion of Allison Pearson but that is really odd.

Has someone hijacked her account?

merrymouse · 09/01/2015 14:08

For the record, I think Ched Evans should have waited until the Criminal Cases Review Commission comes to a decision before continuing his career in football. He may feel he was unjustly convicted, while his co-defendant went free, but he should apologise anyway to the young woman in the case for the misery and fear she has suffered subsequently. If Evans must take up a role in the Oldham Athletic team, the least he can do now is tell his supporters that he vehemently opposes any attempts to pursue and harass the victim.

Strangely in another column AP has said this ^^ which would be in line with the views of many of the people who signed the petition.

I suppose the more viewpoints you can take, the more words you can can use in your column.

merrymouse · 09/01/2015 14:09

I also agree those comments sound odd. Can't believe a journalist would talk so flippantly about jihad.

merrymouse · 09/01/2015 14:13

And if jean hatchet has actually been making death threats the police should be involved.

Icimoi · 09/01/2015 14:14

Predictably Evans' supporters are concentrating hard on those alleged threats to Oldham and airbrushing out the fact that Oldham's main reason for pulling out was financial. It's quite amusing sometimes, though: they tend (e.g. in comments on the Rod Liddle article) to post things like "Well, I bet all these harridans won't condemn that, will they" only to be answered by several posts from said harridans that actually they do. The poor dears then have no idea how to handle their hate objects actually agreeing with them.

limitedperiodonly · 09/01/2015 14:15

I don't think someone would hijack Allison Pearson's account.

It's really odd to call the person or persons Jean Hatchet a jihadist demanding death.

Everything I've seen from Jean Hatchet has been measured. Sometimes snarky but...

Perhaps Allison had had a few sherbets. I know that's usually the explanation for some of my wilder posts.

Icimoi · 09/01/2015 14:16

Taylor, who made his original comments in an interview with the BBC on Thursday, added on Friday: "Ched Evans is a totally different case, but he has the same belief of his innocence."

How can a man in a position of responsibility possibly be as thick and offensive as this? Especially when he must know what a shitstorm his original comment stirred up.

LineRunner · 09/01/2015 14:17

I think sherbets have got to feature somewhere.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 09/01/2015 14:18

Greater Manchester police have said that no one at Oldham has reported any threats.

limitedperiodonly · 09/01/2015 14:28

he must know what a shitstorm his original comment stirred up

I don't think Gordon Taylor does. I don't think he or many other people get it because they are mostly dim but also benighted and some of them are filled with hate towards uppity women. They don't have to be men to feel that.

Rod Liddle does understand. He's not stupid and his stock-in-trade and personal enjoyment is being an agent provocateur, or troll, as we call it these days. I used to find him amusing but it's wearing a bit thin because it's formulaic.

Talk of mob rule is interesting. Was it mob rule that people in Liverpool responded to the call for boycott of The Sun after The Truth? Or was it righteous anger by football fans and local residents?

Over to you Gordon Taylor, since you were so keen to compare the fate of the rapist Ched Evans to the people who campaigned for justice for the dead of Hillsborough?

limitedperiodonly · 09/01/2015 14:36

Greater Manchester police have said that no one at Oldham has reported any threats

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit I don't much like the Daily Mirror, but I loved their occasional feature after the 1997 General Election calling up various people such as Cilla Black, Frank Bruno and Paul Daniels asking them when they would be leaving the country as they'd threatened if a Labour Government was returned.

Perhaps a similar thing could be done with the outraged directors of Oldham Athletic.

I would regard it as a valuable public service for them to do everything they can to help the police to bring these evil miscreants to justice.

LineRunner · 09/01/2015 14:41

I would gladly contact the Police on Oldham Athletic's behalf.

limitedperiodonly · 09/01/2015 14:55

LineRunner. I think we have a duty to the brave directors of Oldham Athletic.

Those poor people must have been so intimidated by threats of death and violence. But strangely not so scared that though they cited them as the reason they declined to sign the rapist Ched Evans, they didn't report them to the police.

We should encourage them to stand firm and say We Believe You.

After all, we should root bullies and liars out wherever we find them Wink.

EveDallasRetd · 09/01/2015 16:06

Allison Pearson is now on a blocking spree of anyone who has commented on the Jean Hatchett piece. Her timeline shows no threats and she has repeatedly ignored requests to show the threats she is pointing towards Jean.

She also called JH a 'coward' for hiding under an assumed name on Twitter. That's Jean Hatchett the DV survivor who uses an assumed name to stay alive

She's gone too far. Way too far.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 09/01/2015 16:53

Anyone who makes threats of death or rape to members of the Oldham board and their families clearly has no understanding of why people do not want CE to return to professional football, and they aare not feminists. I hope that they are reported to the police and investigated.

Icimoi · 09/01/2015 16:54

Solicitors generally not too impressed with Carter Moore - www.lawgazette.co.uk/practice/law-firm-sponsor-stands-by-club-over-ched-evans-issue/5045826.article#commentsubmitted

Icimoi · 09/01/2015 16:59

LineRunner, LimitedPeriod: the directors of Oldham are clearly terrified for their female relatives' safety, hence their reluctant decision not to employ the rapist. So, apparently, are their female relatives. Their failure to take steps to protect themselves by making a full report to the police with copies of the threats was clearly an oversight on their part and we obviously have a duty to help them out with this.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/01/2015 20:31

Just sneaking back in and putting this here. Because god knows, we could all do with a laugh today.

Will Brooker being very funny (and a little bit evil) on Twitter after Steve Brookstein was rude to Jean Hatchet

I didn't know was Steve from Xfactor Grin - had to google. He was very rude though. And I have no sympathy at all since he later added that they were "raping his timeline" Hmm Angry

wanttosqueezeyou · 10/01/2015 15:29

Anyone know if the police have received details of the death threats yet?

Sallyingforth · 10/01/2015 18:01

wantto
I think you meant to say alleged death threats.
