If not, here it is. www.cmsolicitors.co.uk

Plenty of contact details too. :-)

successful businessman who runs a chain of jewellery stores in north-west England, Massey is understood to have pledged financial backing to make good any money which Oldham’s sponsors withdraw in protest. He is also ready to provide a cash incentive which will cover Evans’ wages until the end of the season. Massey has a personal connection to Oldham’s chairman and owner, Simon Corney, another Mancunian entrepreneur.

The PFA is also thought to be ready to provide financial support to get Evans back into the game at Oldham.

Though their petition numbers are probably out of date..

Sallyingforth · 06/01/2015 22:25

From the firm's website:
CM Solicitors are one of the most highly-respected firms in the legal industry.
They should now change the "are" to "were" (in my opinion).

meditrina · 06/01/2015 22:30

I wonder if this means that everyone in the club disagrees with the owner/chairman? And if players are asking to be put on the transfer list asap?

And I can't imagine any amount of cash now will be enough to pay for the new place in the list of team NNs. the sort of thing I mean is: the Toffees, the Magpies, the Canaries, the Blades, the Monkey Hangers, the Rapists.

PasstheDaimbars · 06/01/2015 22:32

Re: Karl Massey, I mean seriously even if he did believe the the convicted rapist Ched Evans was innocent and only 'guilty' of cheating. Would you really want any member of your family with someone who things so little of their relationship???

No wonder she's stayed with him if that's the environment she's grown up in.

Can my seven year old play for OAFC if I stump up a few grand a month for wages?

Wonder if the website being looked at will help sway decisions at Oldham.

meditrina · 06/01/2015 22:36

"Though their petition numbers are probably out of date."

The petition to OA is just over 60k.

The petition to the FA is just under 25k.

I was wondering, especially given the growth of the petition to the FA, if it is now time for there to be an e-petition to the government (sports/culture) asking MPs to debate a change in the law to prevent those with conviction for serious offences to be legally barred from participating in live performance (including sports performances) to any audience over (can anyone suggest a size) that is open to under-18s?

That would also debar anything that could be on telly, if audience size were thus calibrated.

ILovePud · 06/01/2015 22:37

There's a man who thinks everything can be bought, I hope there's enough principled voices on the Oldham board to tell him to stick his offer. If it goes ahead this signing will continue to damage the reputation of this 'family friendly' club long after CE and his FIL's money have gone.

Imagine a father having such low aspirations for his daughter and encouraging such a lack of self respect.

"Anyone know how much the sponsorship deals from Mecca and Verling are worth? I believe the Sports Direct deal is around £1m. Just wondering what would happen if there was a situation whereby those two said they'd withdraw if OA do sign him, and SportsDirect say they'll withdraw if they don't. Which is worth more?"

I was posting and reading the other thread, which is now full, and wanted to respond to this comment on it before I realised the thread was full.

I am more than a little bit surprised that Sports Direct have said they will withdraw sponsorship if rapist Ched Evans is not signed.

Really? Sports Direct cannot find one other football player, any other football player, in the entire sodding world who can represent them as a brand at Oldham?

Sports Direct are so hard up for football players that the one player they absolutely insist on having play for the team they sponsor is an unrepentant rapist?

"Massey is understood to have pledged financial backing to make good any money which Oldham’s sponsors withdraw in protest. He is also ready to provide a cash incentive which will cover Evans’ wages until the end of the season."

So is that the crux of it. He doesn't think he's going to get in legitimately after the SUFC debacle, so his girlfriends father is using his contacts and money to buy him a job?

ilovesooty · 06/01/2015 22:45

If OAFC are prepared to accept Karl Massey's grubby money to ensure his little princess can have her revolting plaything and his desires indulged I hope they sink without trace.

Sallyingforth · 06/01/2015 22:46

I am more than a little bit surprised that Sports Direct have said they will withdraw sponsorship if rapist Ched Evans is not signed.

Indeed.
I wonder how many MN members buy kit from Sports Direct?
And how many will continue to do so after hearing this?

VikingVolva · 06/01/2015 22:46

People who buy a place in the team are usually to be pitied.

In this case, it's surely not pity but amazement at how low some people will think of going?

SoggyOldBiscuit · 06/01/2015 22:51

I will not be buying from Sports Direct again, regardless of what happens next.

timtam23 · 06/01/2015 22:52

Alice - Sports Direct haven't said they'll withdraw if CE isn't signed - the post you've quoted was about a hypothetical situation

YonicSleighdriver · 06/01/2015 22:55

Second timtam - it was a hypothetical wondering by clam.

Sallyingforth · 06/01/2015 22:55

Alice I took your post at face value. Do you have a link to the Sports Direct policy? I will be relieved if you were mistaken.

clam · 06/01/2015 22:55

Thanks, timtam, that was my hypothesis. Maybe I didn't make myself very clear. Blush

this is a responsible viewpoint.

georgedawes · 06/01/2015 22:56

I can't believe how grubby this is. Why on earth do they so desperately want to sign that rapist? Disgusting.

YonicSleighdriver · 06/01/2015 22:57

Isn't football highly competitive? Aren't there oodles of good players who haven't raped anyone that OAFC could sign?

ILovePud · 06/01/2015 22:57

I think that if there is an announcement that Evans' has been signed and indeed this is all being bankrolled by GF's father then the club will come in for huge media criticism for this as well as all the criticism for signing an unrepentant rapist.

clam · 06/01/2015 22:59

Just to be clear: Sports Direct have not (to my knowledge) said they will withdraw sponsorship if Ched Evans is not signed.

But they're still bastards.

Sallyingforth · 06/01/2015 22:59

Thanks for the clarification re Sports Direct.
In that case I gladly withdraw my post of 22:46:28.
