Actually I don't believe I am being unreasonable. But wanted to bring it to attention.

MN seems to be a quiet on this today but I think the fight should still go on. I can't link to it as I am so not tech savvy enough but it is on change.org. (Same person whk set up the Sheffield Weds one so of you sogned that one it is pretty easy to locate).Already has over 9000 signatures so please please please continue to sign and share!

If he was a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer, a youth worker, a life-guard, a dentist, a nursery worker, a television presenter, a police officer, an actor - to name a few "trades" then he wouldn't be going back to those jobs either.

It isn't just about Ched Evans. It is also about the club and the men who are, apparently, happy to employ him, even though he is a convicted rapist who shows no remorse. That tells rape victims everywhere that they are not important. It is about sponsors, such as Sports Direct, who are, apparently, happy to sponsor a rapist.

cricketballs · 04/01/2015 20:39

The reason DBS says no is because of these jobs working with vulnerable people, football playing is not in that area

PuffinsAreFictitious · 04/01/2015 20:39

cricket... I'm not going to flame you at all. I am going to ask you to think though. If you knew that an electrician, brick-layer or accountant was an unrepentant convicted rapist who had done nothing to stop his wealthy girlfriend's family from hounding their victim, would you seriously want them working in your house?

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:41

No remorse. No sympathy for his his hounded victim. Awful.

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:43

High profile footballers have lots of contact with young people. Get real.

elfycat · 04/01/2015 20:44

He hasn't served his sentence. He's still within it. Simple maths or reading would prove that. 5 years, crime in 2011, errr...

Released from prison isn't the same as finishing your sentence or completing rehabilitation or serving your debt to society.

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:44

It's at 14,750.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 04/01/2015 20:44

Minnie... why football though? He's been offered a job elsewhere. If this was all about him not signing on which is extremely disingenuous that would be one thing, but it would never happen.

Your 'boy' raped a young woman, was convicted and has done nothing to stop family and friends hounding his victim. The point of him going to prison is to punish him for raping someone, I'm quite astounded that you didn't realise that.

Idontseeanysontarans · 04/01/2015 20:44

'The boy' is a grown man who made a decision to rape an incapacitated woman then allowed his family and supporters to publicly hound his victim to the extent she has had to change her identity and move more than once. He gets public support and will probably unfortunately get signed by a club at some point - she gets threats. He gets the chance to become a 'hero' to young people. What does she get? A lifetimes punishment.
By the way, he is still serving his sentence as he's on license - which is why he can't work abroad.

YonicSleighdriver · 04/01/2015 20:45

Once more for the cheap seats - he has not served his sentence, he is out on license after serving half his sentence. That's why he's been unable to go to Malta to work, the uk ministry of justice do not allow convicted criminals out on license to do that.

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:45

I know, elfy. Is it deliberate ignorance do you think when people wrongly assert that he has served his sentence?

cricketballs · 04/01/2015 20:46

Puffin - would you know if a tradesman in your house was a convicted rapist?

Why is he being made responsible for his gf's family's actions? How many mn'ers post about their ILs doing things they don't agree with?

YonicSleighdriver · 04/01/2015 20:46

X post idont

YonicSleighdriver · 04/01/2015 20:47

It's his mother and sister as well, cricket.

Idontseeanysontarans · 04/01/2015 20:47

Cricket so why isn't he publicly condemning and distancing himself from their actions? Why hasn't he come out and said that he wants his supporters to leave her alone? His silence speaks volumes.

Well I don't think it was rape either but that's beside the point
The point is a jury convicted him, he went to prison, now he's out and wants to go back to work - I don't get the problem? Is he not allowed to work ever again?
I don't agree with his fans hounding the girl by the way but again it wasn't him, blame the people that actually did it!

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:49

No, sadly I wouldn't necessarily know if an independent tradesman was a convicted rapist.

Chef Evans becoming a professional footballer whilst serving out his sentence for rape and showing no remorse is a different matter.

Daisychain5 · 04/01/2015 20:49

You can ask but I'm not signing. Having read quite a bit about the case, I think he was unfairly convicted. I don't understand why people get up in arms about him not apologising either. If you believe you haven't committed a crime, then why should you apologise?

As for not allowing him to work....how ridiculous. So he should never be allowed to work again? That's sensible. How is he going to earn a living?

PasstheDaimbars · 04/01/2015 20:49

He hasn't served his time. He's served about half and is currently out on licence.

Remember he was convicted on the basis of his own words. The victim didn't report him, the police investigated/ interviewed him based n the CCTV and his 'friends' interview. It was after this interview he was charged.

So whatever he said was enough for the CPS to go forward with the case.

As for the he 'needs to work' well his father in law to be has offered him a job, he's not going to be destitute. He just sees his wants as being more important than anyone else's. In this alone he is a dangerous man..

Be honest would you really be happy for you little boy/girl to have his poster up on their bedroom wall?

ghostyslovesheep · 04/01/2015 20:50

he should start by apologising to his victim for her suffering at his hands and those of his supporters

he doesn't have to admit his obvious guilt to say 'I'm sorry she has been so distressed and her life has been made so shit' does he?

signed btw

elfycat · 04/01/2015 20:51

I'm not concerned with the hounding of the victim (well I am, but I'm not arguing that he deserves to be out of a job because of that). I'm saying that because of his conviction, and that alone, he should not be allowed to continue in a high-profile role. Especially when still on licence.

And yes to the DBS and vulnerable people. Vulnerable huh? Say a bunch of kids, growing up now in a society that treats rape crimes shockingly. They have a chance to hear a good message or a poor one. Boys can learn a good or bad message about behaviour, girls can learn a good or bad message about reporting crimes.

AuntieStella · 04/01/2015 20:51

It's over 14,900 now.

What happens when it hits 15,000?

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 20:51

He is still serving a sentence for rape.

He does not condemn those hounding his victim.
