To think a lot of people are fooled by this brand

They've Just stuck two names together and do some minimal looking packaging to fool people.
The quality isn't good and still people think it's posh. It's not!
It's in most supermarkets.
Who can guess which brand I'm talking about?

OP posts:
FryOneFatManic · 03/01/2015 15:24

I switched our household to bars of soap at the sinks last year. Since then my skin has been softer and cleaner, no irritation, etc.

I stick to plain unscented bars, eg Simple. Some others in the house use shower gels, but I stick to soap in the shower as well now. I've certainly felt my skin smells cleaner for longer since I switched.

I previously felt that shower gel didn't clean as well, was massively overscented and took ages to rinse off, leaving my skin feeling dry and tight afterwards.

Nanny0gg · 03/01/2015 15:35

People who buy and like Bayliss & Harding wouldnt dream of buying Molton Brown, possibly have never heard of it

Really?

How on earth do you reach that conclusion? I have both in my house.

SapphireMoon · 03/01/2015 15:47

Well I am quite broke and did by someone a gift pack of Bayliss and Harding shower gel and body lotion. Actually did think quite posh...
There again, I use Tesco own brand soap these days.
Tis the high life for me...

RonaldMcDonald · 03/01/2015 15:47

I like the B&H Rose and patchouli hand wash and lotion
I would choose it above the other mentioned options

I personally like it more than clarins and I have never liked MB - for some reason MB has always seemed like emperors new clothes to me

HAHAHAHAH, love the snobbery on this thread. We are talking about soap people!!

I have heard of Molton Brown, yet I still buy and like B&H. Why? Because it's SOAP. It's pink, it smells nice and I can buy it at my local supermarket whenever I need it. That's pretty much all I require of a soap.

Personally I think people who think they're better, posher, or more well off than others because of the type of hand soap they buy are wankers. The genuinely posh, well off people tend not to really care what you think of their soap.

RudeBarbandCustard · 03/01/2015 16:34

And OP So my Xmas gift box of b&h is probably going to sit in a cupboard forever - Please give it to a Charity shop if you're never going to use it. Someone will get some pleasure from it.

and I hope the poor person who gave you the gift in the first place never bothers with you again

EddieStobbart · 03/01/2015 17:25

Bloody hell, the company has been around for 45 years and products found in 50% of UK households.

I'm impressed with that and I have a bar of random unscented stuff in bathroom and a bottle of Sainsbury's in kitchen .

MooMaid · 03/01/2015 17:34

I use whatever's on offer - currently it is a lovely smelling Dettol handwash, previously it was Carex, before that it was Waitrose own.... I don't care as long as it's not some manky cracked bar of soap as somehow that doesn't seem as fresh.... but even then a bar of soap is better than nowt!

Wouldn't buy MB unless it was on offer as I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. Would probably be a bit put out if someone bought me B&H for Christmas but ONLY because I would prefer not to have handwash as a present! I'd feel the same if it was any handwash but I would use it and be grateful!

pictish · 03/01/2015 17:34

I love that there are people out there who think they've risen above the riff raff because they have Molten Brown soap in the cloakroom rather than Bayliss and Harding.
I can only aspire to being so easily pleased.

JustMarriedBecca · 03/01/2015 17:43

I thought everyone put B & H in the Molton Brown bottle?

Just me?

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 03/01/2015 17:45

I buy Cien from Lidl and decant it into a Palmolive bottle as its a nicer shaped bottle

EddieStobbart · 03/01/2015 17:51

Names not random - those of the founders grannies.

Mountainygirl · 03/01/2015 18:40

I have been inspired by this thread to add a bottle of B&H pomegranate and elderflower hand soap to my Tesco order. And some jojoba shower stuff

I am clearly upwardly mobile

alpacasosoftsnowgentlyfalling · 03/01/2015 19:41

I bought a shedload of the Cien stuff- it then lifted my palms/fingertips off in a layer- you could actually see the fingerprints !

I currently have the B&H Clementine in the kitchen and
and the Lavender upstairs.
Its fine- reasonable hand wash at a good price.

If I have MB I hide it so that DH and DS don't use it Grin
I have never managed to get over the fact out plumber used my Clinique facial soap to wash his hands covered in grime

fivepounds · 03/01/2015 19:46

I use Creme De La Mer on my massive forehead. 'Tis well expensiff.

pictish · 03/01/2015 19:50

I'm not fond of the Cien products...there's an ingredient in them all that I don't like the smell of...I think it's the same stuff they use in Lush, which I don't like either.

alpacasosoftsnowgentlyfalling · 03/01/2015 19:58

five
I have a fringe Grin

AnnieLobeseder · 03/01/2015 20:34

I retract my earlier statement. The green bottle in my downstairs look which is trying very hard to look posh is not in fact B&H. It is even more pretentious than that. It is a special "SC" (Sainsbury's Collection) bottle. Awesome.

ConferencePear · 03/01/2015 20:38

I have heard of Molton Brown, but I choose to buy Baylis & Harding. I particularly like the black pepper & ginseng hand wash. It reminds me of something in my childhood that I can't quite place.

___

I buy both.

I know when they've done it with wine a lot of people, even experts often prefer the cheaper wines, or cannot tell which is the vintage champagne and which is the Aldi cav

___

We preferred Maschio prosecco (often available for £7/bottle) this Christmas to the bottle of Taittinger we had on NYE.

TSSDNCOP · 04/01/2015 11:11

Got both. Actually use B&H Lavender hand wash and Source shower gel more. I don't think anyone's fooled by B&H are they? They just go "I need some soap". If you hot loads for Christmas you need to seriously rethink your WishList OP.

LoveVintage · 04/01/2015 11:27

My teenage dses got me some b and h for Christmas and I was a bit disappointed when I opened it, though if course I pretended to love it. It is however actually much nicer than I thought it would be.

I don't think it's a con as its not expensive. The fact someone above stated it is made in GB and not tested on animals is making me like it much more.

mswibble · 04/01/2015 11:38

FFS. I also have bought both. However there people in the world who have no interest in posh smellies and haven't heard of MB. There is nothing snobby about saying that at all. I live with one of them.
Anyhoo, I cant really get het up overvfecking hand wash and bubble bath. I haven't even got the energy to get judgeypants over those who decant!
