To think a lot of people are fooled by this brand

They've Just stuck two names together and do some minimal looking packaging to fool people.
The quality isn't good and still people think it's posh. It's not!
It's in most supermarkets.
Who can guess which brand I'm talking about?

I was likewise recently bemused by someone recently referring to Lindor chocolates as 'expensive' and 'luxury'.

They are tasty, don't get me wrong. But luxury? You can buy them in Spar for heaven's sake.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 02/01/2015 22:03

FIL was complimenting some chocs someone had bought him and said "they are Thorntons, well posh!" I didnt want to tell him Poundland stock it. Grin

Welshmaenad · 02/01/2015 22:05

Thorntons have gone reet downhill. Their chocolates are mingingly sickly.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/01/2015 22:06

If you can get it in pretty much any supermarket then it's probably not that posh.

mswibble · 02/01/2015 22:10

I dont think they're out to fool anyone. People who buy and like Bayliss & Harding wouldnt dream of buying Molton Brown, possibly have never heard of it.
Same as Beauticology, their stuff looks just like Philosophy. They are different markets, I doubt anyone is under any illusion. Some people, and im glad to say im now one of them, think its ridiculous to spend £14 on a shower gel.

TheLostPelvicFloorOfPoosh · 02/01/2015 22:10

Arf at 'crisp and dry' Grin

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 02/01/2015 22:11

Aldi sell a Molton Brown knock off handwash too. It does the job. MB is nice, but the prices are a bit 'I saw you coming'.

A lot of people are fooled by lots of things. 99% of 'half price wine' sold in supermarkets is not worth the claimed 'full price' but people snap it up.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 02/01/2015 22:21

The Aldi knockoff is much better than B&H, the latter completely dries my hands out.

VeryStressedMum · 02/01/2015 22:26

How can bayliss & harding be posh when it's sold in Tesco Confused

Doubtfuldaphne · 02/01/2015 22:34

It really annoys me that people think it's posh. I'm glad MNetters see through it. Must just be the people I know!
I've just used it and it's just like jelly. The scent doesn't last and is very weak. It doesn't lather up.
I love Molton brown but it would be a brthday present for myself rather than 'ooh we're running out of soap, better pop down to Molton brown'
I agree with thorntons too, they have gone downhill massively. Not posh!

For Sale- Shitloads of not-so-posh-after-all Bayshit and Farting

Only used for one bath so far. Offers.

polyhymnia · 02/01/2015 22:36

Never heard of B and H before. Doesn't seem I've missed much. Find Molton Brown v boring and certainly not 'posh' but it's fairly inoffensive I guess. Wouldn't want it for a present though.

threepiecesuite · 02/01/2015 22:39

I did think MB was a rip off but tbf, it does linger for ages and the scents are gorgeous.

howtodrainyourflagon · 02/01/2015 22:40

"People who buy and like Bayliss & Harding wouldnt dream of buying Molton Brown, possibly have never heard of it."

oh, the arrogance.

It's soap ffs.

divingoffthebalcony · 02/01/2015 22:40

I hate Bayliss & Harding.

I think MIL thinks it's posh. A bottle appeared in her bathroom when she threw a party for the birth of DD and lots of people came over. Every time we visit, it's back in the bathroom.

DD is three now.

It says a lot that she saves that shite "for best". And yes, it's the same bottle. God knows what they wash their hands with when guests aren't around Confused

threepiecesuite · 02/01/2015 22:40

I enjoy rip offs of top brands. Think Asda did a range that looked a bit Benefitty this year.

ArsenicFaceCream · 02/01/2015 22:43

Well this frothy Smile

choccyp1g · 02/01/2015 22:49

The people who think the cheap versions are a rip offs are the ones being ripped off. All cosmetics are basically the same; you pay for the packaging and the advertising.

usualsuspect333 · 02/01/2015 22:50

I think Molton Brown is more of a rip off than Bayliss and Harding.

No one thinks B & H is posh.

squoosh · 02/01/2015 22:51

I'm happy to spend money on nice cosmetics but really don't see the point when it comes to soap/shower gel as it's on your skin for ten seconds and then down the plughole.

The Aldi ripoff version is nice and even more blatant than B&H in its copycat-ness (real word).

To think a lot of people are fooled by this brand
thatniceperson · 02/01/2015 22:53

B&H handsoap is cheaper per 100ml than the essential Waitrose range, so that's why I buy it.
It's a brilliant bit of packaging design, tricks many people, but its soap, so I couldn't actually care less

AnnieLobeseder · 02/01/2015 22:55

I have some B&H in the downstairs loo cos it's green and matches the paint, and looks slightly more posh than Sainsbury's own anti-bac handwash.

But Molton Brown brings me our in raging eczema. Shame, cos it does smell nice. Sad

usualsuspect333 · 02/01/2015 22:55

Anyone who spends ££££££ on hand wash with the right name on it to impress their guests has more money than sense.

pictish · 02/01/2015 22:57

Gosh...what you must all think of me with my Carex hand soap.

RevoltingPeasant · 02/01/2015 22:58

I like Bayliss and Harding but I certainly don't think it's posh. It's just a basic, affordable, niceish smelling toiletry, same as my Dove soap or Nivea moisturiser. I have never met anyone who thinks it's posh and I don't think it markets itself that way - it's two quid for a large bottle in Sainsburys fgs Confused

MB is a rip off IMO. And yes, it is possible to buy B&H and have heard of MB Grin

If I want nice soap for the bathroom, I go to Lush and get their marmalade or caramel or porridge bars.
