To not have allowed a workman to use my loo?

Sorry ,I know this has been asked before but I've forgotten what the answers were .
A rep for a company was here measuring up in the living room , took about 10 mns .
He then asked if it would be ok if he used the loo.
I said sorry but there was a load of kids upstairs playing so I would have to say no .
I am not normally so rude ,but I just wasn't comfortable with him going upstairs when all the kids were there .wibu?

The last time the piano tuner came he asked to use the loo before he left. He travels quite a long way so I thought it was a reasonable request and I showed him where it was, no problem so far.

However, when he came out he was extremely apologetic as the seat had snapped when he sat on it! Poor chap. I think the seat was a bit lopsided and his visit was the final straw. He was probably secretly pleased when we moved away.

ShatnersBassoon · 12/11/2014 15:55

I bet he's having a good laugh about it. Well, he will be if he didn't piss himself trying to find a public toilet.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 12/11/2014 15:56

Those of you who 'cannot' use any toilet except your own - do you never leave the house, go to work, go on holiday etc etc etc?

YouTheCat · 12/11/2014 15:56

Well the man clearly only wanted to use the loo so he could waggle his willy at a bunch of under 5s. Confused

Poppyhat · 12/11/2014 15:58

Sorry I had to go out there and am trying to catch up here .
Bitchesgetstuffdone ,I am sorry this has happened to you ,that must have been awful .
I will try to address other points ,but there are many so I may loser my train of thought here .
I have no problem with workmen using my loo ,
I feed them biscuits /tea coffee,all day long .
They have been in my home for a bit of time ,and will probably be working for hours /days ,and I have had time to build up a bit of a rapport with them .
This man was in my house for 10 mns maximum .
No small talk at all ,all the work done in silence .
He was 10 mns from his office ,which is where he came from .
I have not mentioned peadophiles/or stealing children .
I was uneasy ,it's a feeling ,means I was not comfortable with the situation .
No he didn't have a 'look' about him ! But he certainly didn't go out of his way to engage with me ,if he had ,I might not have had the uneasy feeling .
To be honest ,saying the children were playing upstairs was the first thing that popped into my head ,and it is the reason I didn't want him upstairs, but

In future I will have an excuse ready if I want to say no again .

ah but that's not what you originally said is it? I feel you are trying to change your story in light of the responses on here.

Do you often leave young children unsupervised for long periods?

StealthPotato · 12/11/2014 16:01

Drip...drip...

ACheesePuff · 12/11/2014 16:02

So you only allow people to the loo once you have built a rapport with them?

Poppyhat · 12/11/2014 16:04

What have I changed ?

I think YWBU OP, but I think (hope) you know that now.

OnlyLovers · 12/11/2014 16:07

YABU. I think at least one person has already handed you a grip, but I've got one here too should you need it.

FFS. All those saying 'My home my rules' and 'Can't he just find a cafe' etc ... Christ on a bike. Words fail me.

As for I'd have said no, too, but plenty of people here think all the loos in private homes should be public., what a stupid thing to say.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 12/11/2014 16:07

I let anyone use my loo. I can't imagine the embarrassment of being told no. It's a basic human necessity. IMO if someone asks " even after 5-10 minutes" I'd presume they were bursting and had no other place to go to. ( not that I'd expect them to). I don't know why but I get visions of those nasty snotty deep south Jackson women in The Help when these threads pop up.

BeCool · 12/11/2014 16:08

gosh this is a virtual repeat/rerun of another recent thread on exactly the same subject.

BlueberryWafer · 12/11/2014 16:11

Ywbu. Why does it matter that he was there 10 minutes? His next job may have been an hour away, so he needed a pee before he went. My DP would have been extremely offended if he was doing some work in a customers house and they said he couldn't use the loo because there were children upstairs!

Poppyhat · 12/11/2014 16:12

I am not sure what people at finding most unreasonable ?
Is it Because I said there was children running about up there ?
Or was it because I said no ?

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 12/11/2014 16:13

It's both. You inconvenienced and insulted him.

LittleBairn · 12/11/2014 16:14

You do know if you take workmen on to work on your property you have to provide them with a loo?
So the guy was only in for quick mesuring job you were still being OTT.
If he was safe enought to have in the house then he was safe enough to have a piss in your loo.

BeCool · 12/11/2014 16:15

for me it is because you said no.

Someone already in your home needed to use your toilet and you said no. I hope the favour is returned one day, as you can't seem to see why that is a really awful thing to do.

There does seem to be a lot of hysterics about non-family members using toilets on MN.
