Last years bear and hare left me cold, but this years penguin one had me sobbing. I may be hormonal.

OP posts:
diddl · 06/11/2014 16:16

yes i also thought it was odd that he saw couples & thought that his toy needed a "mate".

ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2014 16:18

It's quite nice. My heartstrings have definitely not been tugged, though.

Weird because I'm a soppy caaaah and I cry at most stuff.

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2014 16:22

You can start off with a cute Christmas story which is blown totally out of proportion with acusation of sex trafficing, mail order brides, child neglect and a stuffed toy taking up a seat on the bus.

ONLY mumsnet can twist a cute story into all that.

^^ That's why I love it so much Grin

tywinlannister · 06/11/2014 16:28

The ad is great but Regina Spektor sang that song so much better. Even John Lennon did a better job and he was no singer really.

FishesTit · 06/11/2014 16:37

Can I be one of the first to say it was utter bilge, total shit! There said it..and I'm normally so sentimental!

squoosh · 06/11/2014 16:38

I'm afraid it's already been said Fishes.

Clayhead · 06/11/2014 16:39

My first thought was that the child was a pimp for penguins! It's just a weird advert and did nothing for me at all.

FishesTit · 06/11/2014 16:41

And yet JL have been inundated with 'how lovely' tweets...the world has gone mad!

LisaMWill · 06/11/2014 16:42

It brings a tear to my eye but mostly because the song was our first dance at our wedding

CaptainAnkles · 06/11/2014 16:44

DD cried because it wasn't a real penguin and now wants an actual pet one for Christmas Shock

Mammanat222 · 06/11/2014 16:45

Loved this advert but couldn't remember any of the previous ones, so just been on YouTube (still can't remember any of them and I went back to 2010 - have I been under a rock?????)

I love Penguins, I want one!

SexualBernieClifton · 06/11/2014 20:47

watched it and nothing and I cry at the drop of a hat.

can't stand JL Christmas adverts.

bigbluestars · 06/11/2014 20:55

Nope- did nothing for me.

WeirdCatLady · 06/11/2014 20:57

Just seen it. Not crying. Nope. I just have something in my eye.

This isn't helped by us watching Mr Poppers Penguins last night.

Dear Santa,
I've been good this year.
Please bring me a penguin.
Ta.

laurentperrier · 06/11/2014 21:52

I loved it and was tearing up at the end.

Is it wrong I want a penguin now?

Madeyemoodysmum · 06/11/2014 22:05

I loved it and I'm not sure I can now cope watching TV for the next six weeks!

Its definitely the bit with the cuddly penguin that gets you.

watchingthedetectives · 06/11/2014 22:23

I really like Christmas but these ads leave me cold - sobbing/crying/howling??

Obviously have a heart of stone with a shard of ice in it

tilliebob · 07/11/2014 02:26

I don't really get it either. I knew it was a toy penguin - who the hell would have a real stinky bugger on the end of their bed?

I find it smaltzy in the extreme.

chocolatesolveseverything · 07/11/2014 03:29

Loved it - and definite eye leakage here. My excuse is that I have a 15m boy and I can't wait for him to start playing imaginatively like that. Who cares if it's marketing? The magic of childhood is there. And I still don't have to buy at JL if I don't want to Smile.

TheWholeOfTheSpook · 07/11/2014 03:46

I look forward to JL Xmas adverts every year but this one left me cold. Bring back 2011 and 12 I say!

MorelliOrRanger · 07/11/2014 07:09

I like this one better than last years, my favourite one is still the little boy waiting for Xmas though (2011)

itispronouncedpenguin · 07/11/2014 07:43

I cant get sucked in by the smaltzy emotion of the ad as I cant get past the cynicism of a penguin toy that costs £95. Seriously? Its bound to be a bestseller this Xmas, no wonder people have no money if they're willing to waste that amount on a soft toy.

Nanny0gg · 07/11/2014 08:55

I have no idea why I just cried watching that ad. I am a soft touch, but it really shouldn't have had the effect it did.

That kid was very good in the part though.

Ilovenicesoap · 07/11/2014 09:47

What!!
£95 for a stuffed penguin Hmm
That reminds me I saw an ad for not on the high street last night.
Mmm come and buy something tat for £100.
Bizzarre I cant for the life of me recall what the advert was even aboutConfused

ohmymimi · 07/11/2014 11:55

I'd be crying with laughter if someone was draft enough to spend 95 quid on a stuffed toy. JL really are desperate to separate the gullible from their spondulicks this 'festive' season.
