Last years bear and hare left me cold, but this years penguin one had me sobbing. I may be hormonal.

YY, last year's advert was rubbish.

sickntiredtoo · 06/11/2014 10:00

I think the big sister is funny!!

OwlCapone · 06/11/2014 10:03

I think it's crap!

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2014 10:04

I agree it's a lovely ad but I just cant cry or sob over it Confused

What's wrong with me?

No wait, what's wrong with you lot? Why are you crying and sobbing over a John Lewis advert? Grin

Lambzig · 06/11/2014 10:05

Just snorted tea out of my nose at "penguin sex trafficking". Well that will stop me crying when I see it next.

Oh and glad I am not the only one (I do have history for inappropriately sentimental weeping though).

I literally laughed out loud at I am not sure about the use of real penguins?

He's a bloody good actor if he's real Grin

slithytove · 06/11/2014 10:08

Penguins are so cute.

I watched it thinking, well yes, it's lovely, but not cry worthy. Till he opened the present. Welled up a bit then. Then when I saw the soft toys and tag line - a tear or two MIGHT have escaped.

slithytove · 06/11/2014 10:10

Worra - I suspect there is a correlation between JL advert criers, and thread criers/lolers.

and all of you hard hearted beasties who don't laugh or cry at threads are probably the same pp who don't cry at JL ads Grin

WalkingInMemphis · 06/11/2014 10:11

Nothing can top their little boy and his eagerness to give a present though

I never thought another advert would make me howl tear up as much as that one - until the penguins. I'm almost welling up just thinking about it. what the hell is wrong with me?

LaurieMarlow · 06/11/2014 10:11

It's sweet, but not quite up to the standard of previous years IMO. Mind you, the 2011 effort set the bar so high falling short becomes inevitable.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/11/2014 10:12

Adam Hess via Twitter ... 'In the extended version of the John Lewis advert you find out the boy is also a doll and the mother has been imagining it all from her cell.'

hahahaha Grin

PunkrockerGirl · 06/11/2014 10:13

I loved it and may have shed a few tears Wink

Lagoonablue · 06/11/2014 10:15

Yeah it is sentimental tosh aimed at making us buy.....but still cried. I just you tubed them all and am having a self indulgent sniffle just now. The little boy and The Smith song is my fave.

ElizabethLemon · 06/11/2014 10:16

Yep I cried. Think they pinched the boy & penguin relationship from Oliver Jeffers' stories though.

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2014 10:17

Ok so we have crying and sobbing and howling

Any advance on howling? Grin

mcdog · 06/11/2014 10:18

Love it love it love it!! Big blub here but so uplifting Smile

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2014 10:18

ghosty Grin

Thisvehicleisreversing · 06/11/2014 10:19

I cried but I cry at all Christmas adverts.

Nothing can beat the JL snowmen advert. Although this is quite sweet.

Looking forward to the coke advert which I predict will be on on Saturday during X factor. Smile

Meh I just see some soppy add for us to buy more shit, we don't need, with money we don't have, that will just end up in landfill.

Vanillepudding · 06/11/2014 10:23

Oh wow, that just sends me down memory lane.

My now teenage son was obsessed with penguins when he was 4/5/6 (thanks to Happy Feet). He had a toy penguin (I think we ordered it with cornflakes tokens) that went everywhere with him.
It still sleeps in his bed.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 06/11/2014 10:23

Not very Christmassy or atmospheric though. All those scenes with the boy and the penguin doing things could have been more festive activities to up the Christmas thing....as it is...it was too long and not that satisfying.

WorraLiberty · 06/11/2014 10:24

Squatting, we need a wail and possibly someone to declare it's opened the floodgates to their soul Grin
