Aibu?

Had guests to stay last night. It gets mentions casually the next day that he sleeps naked, I laugh and say something along the lines of "only in your own bed I bloody hope!"
..at which point he gets a bit embarrassed and she says "he can't stand wearing pj's!"

We swiftly move on and I mourn the innocence of my pretty sanderson sheets.

Aibu to think you should at least wear undies when sleeping in someone else's home?

Or am I being a prude?

WyrdByrd · 27/10/2014 11:17

We have three friends who stay with us regularly - I have no clue what they wear to bed (and tbh would rather not know!)

LuluJakey1 · 27/10/2014 11:18

We have a handy vacuum attachment that can reach cobwebs in all kinds of awkward places.

MarianneSolong · 27/10/2014 11:19

Presumably the main thing is to make sure the door of the guest bedroom is firmly shut so that the roaming breasts and testicles can't escape in the night?

LuluJakey1 · 27/10/2014 11:22

Seen topless in bed by host, poss PIL, bringing a cup of tea! You must live south of the Tyne Bridge with that kind of liberal attitude to nakedness. (Folds arms under bosom in Les Dawson fashion)

BasketzatDawn · 27/10/2014 19:41

In the same flat - we did have a mouse problem there - I once found a dead one on the washing heap. (So much laundry we had no basket as such). Having read this thread, I now assume he was on his way to put his smeggy sheets in the machine when the grim reaper got him. This was a previous generation to the jiggy ones BTW. But I'm sure they were all at it - like rabbits. Grin

momb · 27/10/2014 20:17

I'm loving this thread Grin .
I believe that etiquette states that one offers a couple a double bed and therefore accepts whatever comes after.....
I have to say that I've never looked closely/checked but just washed the sheets! If one presumes that a couple will be, erm, intimate then nakedness is surely presumed?
tbh the image of nightwear with appropriate holes in it is worse than the idea that ones guests are naked.....

momb · 27/10/2014 20:18

oops, missed a '. one's

Vingtdeux22 · 27/10/2014 21:25

Would the OP think it unreasonable, if staying as a guest of naked sleepers, the hosts told her politely, but firmly, that nightwear was prohibited under their roof?

Surely nightwear or lack of it is a matter of personal preference and a good hostess would want to respect that.

chasingtheegg · 27/10/2014 21:34

Can't believe this thread is still going! Grin
I see you've all stopped arguing over tampons and are back to assessing my hostess skillz and general unreasonableness.

Vingtduex22- I'd love to know what reason might be given for prohibiting nightwear.

Thinking about giving nude sleeping a go tonight. . Since everyone else thinks it's the bees knees!

Nooo, I wouldn't try it for the first time in cold weather, chasing. You'd get cold shoulders/neck unless you can get the adjustment of bedding just right. I hate cold shoulders in the winter at any rate. Smile

squoosh · 27/10/2014 22:09

I'm an expert nude sleeper and never have cold shoulders. The only part of body that's exposed is my head.......and sometimes a bum cheek if I'm feeling a bit too warm and need to regulate the temperature.

Hatespiders · 27/10/2014 22:18

I have a 15 Tog duvet, pure goose down, cost an arm and a leg. Had it for years. Only my nose pokes out. But if too warm, like squoosh, I may stick my capacious bare bum out to steam for a bit. Dh has the same type of duvet, but only 10 Tog. When I take him a cup of tea in, I never know what bit of him may be poking out. But it will be nude./emo/te/2.gif

Hatespiders · 27/10/2014 22:20

Why doesn't the laughing thing work when I want to move it onto my post?
Honestly, me and technology...I'm really hopeless!

BasketzatDawn · 27/10/2014 22:28

That's where I'm going wrong then. I am no expert nude sleeper - cos I prefer being warm and I AM a very cold person. DH has never owned PJs since childhood but his thermostat is different from mine anyway. And my duvet is non-bird, mainly due to my allergy to things fluffy and furry. Having to choose between breathing and being warm is the pits. Smile

The way I do smilies etc. is to highlight the word and drag it up to right place. Then delete everything except square brackets and the word inside. It works for me though maybe there is a less clumsy way.

thegreylady · 27/10/2014 22:31

I can't cope with anything on my bum in bed. I wear nighties and no knickers and change sheets once or twice a week. However I do own two pairs of pyjamas for away from home. I find them hideously uncomfortable but wouldn't feel right in someone else's sheets with bare bum and knickers are just too tight fitting in bed.

ScreamEggsAndHam · 27/10/2014 22:35

Whaaa?! Not read all 12 pages but what the chuff does it matter?! You sleep in bed how you sleep in bed. If that means in winceyette flannel pyjamas or nightgowns, fair enough. If in the buff, also fair enough! Why does it matter what they slept in?! Confused
I think this scenario is what the phrase "ignorance is bliss" was invented for. Grin

Patsyandeddie · 27/10/2014 22:40

I'm with pointy fangs, haven't worn anything to bed since I was about 5, ridiculous idea, you just end up getting strangled! I presume we all Change a bed after guests have stayed so unless he left hideous skid marks what does it matter!!

Patsyandeddie · 27/10/2014 22:41

Pyjamas are the work of the devil!

Agrestic · 27/10/2014 22:53

I brought the navy blue bedsheet from ikea. Big mistake!

We both sleep naked. I'd do it in someone else's house. No issues with those few days a month as my moon cups got my back but I'd have to wear pants if I was using a tampon. You're not properly plugged up and I would hate to leak on someone's sheets!

Pipbin · 27/10/2014 23:03

I sleep in the nip except for when I'm on and if I'm staying somewhere.

I've not read the full thread but I can only assume that those who would be shocked if someone slept naked or shagged while staying as a guest never stay in hotels.

Summerisle1 · 27/10/2014 23:51

I remain fascinated by the existence of "poo crumbs" of which I was unaware until joining MN.

I remain unconvinced of their reality, mind.

ithoughtofitfirst · 28/10/2014 00:49

You've heard of 'bum jam' though right summer ? Grin

postmanpatscat · 28/10/2014 08:29

My parents sleep naked at home and when staying at my house. They are close to 70.

I love my pjs but I don't sleep in them unless DP is away from home overnight.

Pipbin · 28/10/2014 08:38

summer I too don't believe in poo flakes. I've got no idea what bum jam is either.

garbanzobean · 28/10/2014 08:40

lol!!

Reminds me of the time I shared halls with a lot of other women. One day-or rather early hours of the morning- there was a fire drill and we had to congregate in what was known as the hall.

All the other girls were there in their fleecy pyjamas, joke slippers and cotton nighties while I was there fully clothed in the jeans and jumper I'd grabbed from the floor.

'Why are you dressed, garbonzobean?' some of them asked.

'Erm, because I grabbed my clothes off the floor as I sleep in the nude'

They looked at me in horror! I got a dressing gown after that.
