....on crap.

She told me it was for me. But after I spent it she told me it was to put towards important things like a car or wedding.

Oops.

Fair point.
Just found the hamster soup one (I think). Joke thread in 2006 where poster pretended the hamster had fallen in a casserole and been devoured?

DishingOutDone · 13/04/2020 16:01

I wonder why this came up again - how do zombie threads get resurrected I wonder?

FamBae · 13/04/2020 16:14

That's really sad that you think so little of your DM's gift.

FamBae · 13/04/2020 16:15

I'm off to search for the hamster soup thread Wink

eggcream · 13/04/2020 16:21

"how do zombie threads get resurrected I wonder?"

Because people add a new post without looking at the original date and the thread appears in active then loads of other people post without noticing the original date or the numerous posts just before theirs stating ZOMBIE

and people like me add to the irony by posting again - it's a fair cop guv Grin

Why are you asking people if you should come clean to your Mother, re all the money. You are the only person who knows your Mother, and her way of thinking about money matters. If you are feeling guilty about the gaming stuff, well give it a rest.If you think you are wasting the money, just try and improve matters.

But it's pointless to ask people on here what you should or shouldn't tell your Mother, you should be able to make the decision about this yourself.

DollyDaydream70 · 13/04/2020 16:35

If you're Mother had certain specifications for how she wanted the 8k to be spent, she should have made that clear when she gave it to you. 8k is a lot of money, I hope you got some decent holidays out of it. I really can't see that you've done any wrong here. It's a case of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted.

ACertainSupermarket · 13/04/2020 16:38

Are you generally bad with money? If so she was very unwise to give it to you.
If you feel bad about it and wish to make it better, what can you do to start saving money now?

Queenoftheashes · 13/04/2020 16:51

@FamBae I thought it might be this

Why do people resurrect zombie threads? Just start another. 6 years later, I doubt the OP gives a toss about people's views on her pissing away 8 grand.

Gwenhwyfar · 13/04/2020 16:58

"8K is a very nice new kitchen (well that is what I would have bought if I were given it). What a waste of a decent sum of money."

I suppose a new kitchen will increase the value of your house, but in itself I see it as SUCH a boring thing to buy.
I would probably spend it on travelling if we're ever able to travel internationally again.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 13/04/2020 17:08

Where did the little zombie cartoon go?

DishingOutDone · 13/04/2020 17:13

Makes me realise how few poster RTFT, or even any of the thread, like the most recent 2 or 3 messages. There's a few of us chatting about it being a Zombie and others coming on with advice for the OP of 6 years ago ...

I'm off to see the hamster as well.

ALemonyPea · 13/04/2020 17:17

Zombie thread...

AIBU in not telling my mother I spent the 8k she gave me....
JudyCoolibar · 13/04/2020 17:34

Don't tell her, just assume that if you want a new car or a wedding she won't be contributing anything towards it financially.

And for goodness sake stop pissing money away on gaming rubbish, and transfer what your mother gives you now into a decent and untouchable savings account.

JudyCoolibar · 13/04/2020 17:35

Bugger, didn't notice the date. That's annoying.
