Last night DH and i hosted a BBQ for newish friends whom we had never hosted before. DH invited a female colleague whom i had never met before. She turned up with her boyfriend but not her bra. She was wearing a thickish cotton white top. You could see the outline of her boobs and nipples if you looked.

After the party i mentioned it to DH. He claimed to not have noticed.

If he did lie about looking at her bosom, it's obviously a social or "white" lie.

He will have realised that mentioning he had looked at another woman's wabs might be upsetting for you, and did not want to cause you that upset.

Why are you concerned about her nipples being a bit noticeable?

Could I just ask, is your DH her boss? Didn't quite get that bit. Are you worried about how she acts or dressed at work while around male colleagues?

I dont go round looking at womens tits but i would certaintly notice if someone wasnt wearing a bra, its very obvious.

I wouldnt be wanting to see swinging boobs with poking out nipples no matter what top they were wearing.

I used to go around braless, for years, because I found them so uncomfortable. I have fairly enormous knockers. It didn't actually occur to me that other people might be scrutinising to see if they could get a good gawp at my nipples through a 'thickish top'.

Yes DH is her boss, she is new to the company, DH brought her in from Moscow.

Actually, to be serious. I would probably find it strange. But I don't think I'd say it's inappropriate, as bra wearing is not obligatory. But yes, a bit out of the ordinary.

Being not-British myself, I find the whole worry about breast/nipples being visible a bit strange: all women have them, they come in all sizes and colours, sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't - so what? I am genuinely puzzled.

For years I have eschewed padded bras (I have large breasts, am uncomfortable without bras and need proper scaffolding) and yes, sometimes (when cold) my nipples were visible. It's not that I don't care, but I just don't care enough that people may have notices. Their problem, no mine IMO.

Is she not British? If so it's probably totally normal for her not to wear a bra, British people seem to be a bit funny about these things, don't like any nipple on show but in some countries it's totally normal and no one would bat a eye lid.

I'm sure your dh did notice ( I know mine would ). I am not wearing a bra today and am wearing a white top but it's more for dh's pleasure and I wouldn't normally go out like it.

I really don't see what business it is of yours what underwear she was or wasn't wearing. As for 'inappropriate', well, as others have said, what does that even mean? She wasn't at work, she can wear what she wants in her spare time.

If it were me and my DH (if I had one) we would have had a laugh and a good gossip about it after they left. It wouldn't have bothered me - each to their own etc. if she had turned up with no clothes on I might have been a bit but how someone else wears their clothes is none of my business. I think you might benefit from seeing the funny side of both last night and this thread.
