Bra-less at my BBQ?

BioSuisse · 21/09/2014 09:59

Last night DH and i hosted a BBQ for newish friends whom we had never hosted before. DH invited a female colleague whom i had never met before. She turned up with her boyfriend but not her bra. She was wearing a thickish cotton white top. You could see the outline of her boobs and nipples if you looked.

After the party i mentioned it to DH. He claimed to not have noticed.

MN jury?

But can I seriously ask from those who think it is inappropriate what has led term to that conclusion? I am genuinely surprised that it's even a thread.

Tipsykisses · 21/09/2014 16:18

I don't know what is noddy but it's not upbringing as my mum was horrified when I asked her & thought it very bad taste but I'm not really bothered about ladies not wearing bras if that's their choice .

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 21/09/2014 16:20

I just can't see the not wearing a bra as a huge issue.

I agree with Lying Whitch posts here. Women should be able to wear/not wear what the hell they like.

Who cares anyway.

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 21/09/2014 16:22

marrianne

Tactfully to the bra drawer Grin

MiddletonPink · 21/09/2014 16:27

' who cares anyway '

Pretty bloody obvious.

Noddy I wouldn't say it's inappropriate to turn up at the boss's house without a bra just a bit ill thought out and as the wife of said boss I could sort of understand why the OP felt weird. Although now after reading all of the thread I'm not sure what is going on.

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:28

Loads of people don't wear bras. It's just a personal choice which I have to say must be lovely to have as I have to wear a bra unless on the beach!

LittlePeaPod · 21/09/2014 16:28

Op. I wasn't sure what you were asking butI just asked DH unofficial pole if he would look at the girls breasts in similar situation. His answer "depends on how ice a pair they are but every man he knows would". He quickly added that doesn't mean we have any interest in them.

Now to read the thread.. Grin

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:29

I don't think people give things like that that much thought though. I don't. I go to dos work dos and wear what I like at the time I don't consider the others or ace what they wear.

CharlieSierra · 21/09/2014 16:29

I think context and intent is key. If you are someone who is more comfortable going without mostly and don't think anything of it, that is maybe not the same as doing it in an an overtly sexually charged way - some on here have claimed not to understand what 'appropriate' means in terms of dress. I think most women wouldn't choose a family BBQ as the occasion to go for a deliberately sexy look and the OP picked up some vibes.

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:30

Dps

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:31

How do you know it was deliberate and not a natural thing though.

ILoveTurnips · 21/09/2014 16:33

Of course everyone should be allowed to wear what they want but are people seriously saying that they would not think it inappropriate, for example, for a large breasted head teacher to turn up to work braless and wearing a white tee shirt? Seriously!!! You think that would be ok? What about a male headteacher turning up with his arse crack hanging out?? Would that really not bother you? Or what about a male or femail social worker...or a lawer ..or whatever turning up for work in 'short' shorts with their arse cheeks on display. Are some posters really 100% ok with that? Shock

JanineStHubbins · 21/09/2014 16:34

This wasn't work.

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:36

All of those scenarios are different.

Lordnoobson · 21/09/2014 16:39

Legally anything arrange through work is work. Viz Xmas parties

JanineStHubbins · 21/09/2014 16:41

Legally anything arrange through work is work.

Really? So if my colleague invites me to a dinner party, that's work? Can you link to the law that states that please?

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:41

Really legally? God I go to Dp work things in short dresses etc and never think about it

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/09/2014 16:41

Can some people really not discern the difference between 'arse cracks' and covered braless breasts?

This thread is about breast size and, I perceive, age. It's also about a woman.

I'm also picturing the scenario whereby OP's final drip came in:
OP: Did you notice that woman's breasts or did you not?
H: No.
OP: Did you?
H: Ok, I did... and I'm having sex with her too.

All within the space of 1000 and 1500 today... Unbelievable.

And yes, the sheep are very much in evidence. Just after the nick of time and missing the entire point. Nevermind, they get to post on the thread.

motherinferior · 21/09/2014 16:44

And if I go for a drink with a colleague that's work too?

Not to speak of the number of us who have shagged/dated/married people they met through work...

noddyholder · 21/09/2014 16:44

There is one woman though who thinks at my age long hair and even worse long boots is a bit tarty Grin she is younger than me too and dresses like an old lady already but I still smile at her and say she looks lovely

papercliplover · 21/09/2014 16:46

Iloveturnips - it wasn't work. It's got nothing to do with what you wear to work. I'm currently sitting in a long t-shirt and grotty joggers. No bra. I wouldn't wear that to work. I wear a suit every day to work. Am I not allowed to slob at the weekends then?

CharlieSierra · 21/09/2014 16:47

I don't know it was deliberate, obviously, I wasn't there. But I can imagine scenarios when I'd think nothing of someone being bra less and also when I would be a bit Hmm and think she was attention seeking.

papercliplover · 21/09/2014 16:50

Lordnoobson - please can you link to the law or precedent in case law that states this? Thanks.

Tipsykisses · 21/09/2014 16:51

Maybe there was something else about the way she was acting which together with the white top & no bra made the Op think that it was inappropriate ? I know she hasn't said that but it's a possibility .

papercliplover · 21/09/2014 16:54

I met my best friend through work. We go out together and dress very inappropriately in short skirts and high heels that we would never wear to work.

I also had a boyfriend I met through work. Reader, I shagged him. Not ever in work though. Is that to say I committed some kind of breach of company regulations?

I know of places that have dress codes, written formal dress codes, but no way could anyone ever dictate what is worn by anyone on a night out, outside working hours.
