This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

Morning! I've followed these threads but have been too nervous to post until now, they've been intense and fascinating and informative.

I swithered for ages but eventually decided on No - off to the polling station now before I change my mind
again.

BlackWings · 18/09/2014 06:49

Same here Jolly. Polls open in 15 minutes. This time tomorrow we'll have our results!
It's a very misty almost eerie morning here in Edinburgh.

Thinking of you all in Scotland on this historic day. Whatever you decide I hope all will go swimmingly.

I suspect it's going to be close.

combust22 · 18/09/2014 06:52

My kids call this a "Scooby Doo day" - misty and mysterious.

Solopower1 · 18/09/2014 06:53

Yes the mist is very symbolic - let's hope it lifts and gives us some clarity.

EarthWindFire · 18/09/2014 06:55

Today is the day... Off to the polling station....

My kids call this a "Scooby Doo day" - misty and mysterious.

BlackWings · 18/09/2014 06:55

Scooby doo day, I like it.

EarthWindFire · 18/09/2014 06:56

Should be a Grin after that quote.

Ulysses · 18/09/2014 06:56

My 3yo woke me up at 3, put her back to bed to but couldn't get back to sleep! I am feeling drained already so there's little chance of me staying up for the results. I feel the world's eyes are on us. It's exciting and monumental not for just for us in Scotland. I'm a no, always have been but I am concerned about whatever outcome it is. Once the kids are up I'm going to go and vote. I'll take my two girls with me I think.

SapphireMoon · 18/09/2014 07:03

Terrifying couple of days.
I want to wake up tomorrow to a No vote....desperately.
The disturbing sheeple response to Alex Salmonds lack of substance speech frightened me.

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 07:10

Good luck today everyone. I am glad I will not be returning till all the drama is over - I thought I would be but I won't so I have a proxy vote. DH is on his way to the polling booths as I type.

As to an earlier comment about the media - I think they have been disgraceful. All of them. Not an unbiased report anywhere and many of them armed with an enormous wooden spoon. A friend was angry that they only seriously started to engage with the debate way too late. She felt it should have begun a lot sooner so she had time to digest the issues.

I think the only way to make a decision is to step away from it all and look at your voting card hard, thinking about what independence means. If you are still undecided. If that makes sense.

Ps as a no voter I don't appreciate being lumped in with groups associated with sectarian violence or the Tories or the English, just as a Yes voter doesn't appreciate being associated with the extreme far right and violence and intimidation that has marred this campaign. Nor do I appreciate being preached at from overseas, something my father has been doing all month despite not having lived here for 40 years. To say he is out of touch is an understatement.

I hate how this has turned into English Scottish. It's not about that, or any one political party. I sound trite but we need to rise above all of it don't we? Myself included. Or it is not going to be pretty.

Lots of respect for you posters who have been hard on the campaign trail and I hope it is not too chilly for you today outside the polling stations.

moxon · 18/09/2014 07:13

Happy indyref day all ye merry folk up north! Go get 'em, whichever way you swing! Wink

SapphireMoon · 18/09/2014 07:14

I am British first. My thinking has been hardened against narrow Nationalism.

FrankelandFilly · 18/09/2014 07:18

Apologies if this has already been discussed, do we know how the result will be announced? Will it be on a region by region basis (like the General Election) or will it just be an overall result once all votes are counted?

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 07:22

Region by region. There is a list somewhere!

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 07:23

I just don't know where on the thread Smile

frankie80 · 18/09/2014 07:25

region by region is what I've been told, I think the BBC said that too.

I couldn't sleep last night :(

Couldn't post on here cos my internet crashed.

Going to vote at about 8am. DH says he's coming with me to vote alongside me 'just in case'. We're worried about intimidation :(

SapphireMoon · 18/09/2014 07:29

A sad day if there is any form of intimidation.

LavaDragonflies · 18/09/2014 07:33

AIBU to be a bit irritated by a post on my FB this morning - "think carefully Scotland. The Union Jack is such a lovely flag" - the poster can't even get the name of the flag right FFS.

Good luck everybody today, I hope you get the result you want and that, whatever the result is, it works out for the best.
I still haven't decided what my view is, best get thinking!

frankie80 · 18/09/2014 07:39

Lots of people on my facebook too posting things along the lines of 'vote yes or else'. Angry

I believe many of my friendships have been damaged forever :(

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/09/2014 07:40

Morning all. I can't believe it's today. I feel quite sick!

OP posts:
frankie80 · 18/09/2014 07:41

Lava, my personal opinion is that if you have any doubts at all, why risk it?

But it is your decision. If there are questions you still need answered, maybe people on here could help.

SapphireMoon · 18/09/2014 07:41

If in doubt surely a 'No' vote the way to go?
'Yes' is forever I believe but I don't believe No is.
I am sure if a 'No' vote this issue will be voted on again in the future?

combust22 · 18/09/2014 07:47

Morning all - OH is still ranting but will be out of the house in 10 minutes.

Decided on a No- I won't tell my OH that of course, I don't want him to think he has influenced me.
