This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

OP posts:
IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 09:17

Alex Salmond came out strongest, IMO, on the Dimbleby show last night.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 17/09/2014 09:17

eurgh, that was to IrnBru - she was referring I think to his scrapping of tax relief on pension contributions, not the 2008 crash, which clearly can't be pinned on him..

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 09:17

DH nipping out to vote after I get back. Hoping the Yes T-shirt is dry for tomorrow morning!

flippinada · 17/09/2014 09:18

A little bit of light relief - on the bus into work, just spotted a poster on a bus stop with a picture of AS in military uniform saying "President Salmond - Surely Not!"

Earlier went past a house with no posters in the upstairs windows and yes posters downstairs.

DaughterDilemma · 17/09/2014 09:20

Salmond beat Brown hands down yesterday sorry Gordon the history lessons they were good but said all we needed to support yes

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 17/09/2014 09:22

Yeah, x beat y - this is what we're all very tired of I think.

myroomisatip · 17/09/2014 09:22

I have not read the previous threads so forgive me if this has been raised repeatedly...

What worries me are all the 'what ifs' should Scotland get a Yes vote.

So many questions raised about the £, border controls, EU membership, our armed forces, work permits and so on. It seems crazy to me that a vote is being taken when no one seems to know what the repurcussions will be.

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 09:23

The bias on the BBC is disgusting especially after Kevin Bridges has come out saying all his pals on the boat when interviewed said they'll vote NO on his show, when in fact they'll all be voting Yes tomorrow.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 09:24

Irn & DD Of course you would say that. You're hardly going to admit someone from the NO campaign spoke much more sense are you?!

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 17/09/2014 09:24

myroom yes these questions have been raised repeatedly of course. If you have a look back at a few of these threads you should find plenty of discussion around the currency and EU.

Fontella · 17/09/2014 09:24

I've got a question for Scottish posters of both 'yes' and 'no' persuasion. Apologies if it sounds a bit dense, but it is something I have wondered about, and I hope you won't mind me asking.

They are estimating 80% turn out - obviously way, way higher than for any other election, but I can't help wondering about the other 20%?

Are these people who for whatever reason are physically, logistically unable to vote, or are there still people who are just apathetic - it's hard to imagine that there is anyone left in Scotland who doesn't feel passionately one way or the other - but (apart from what was mentioned on the other thread about some people perhaps thinking that an abstention meant no) do you personally know anyone who has said - 'I can't be bothered to vote', or 'I'm not voting because .....'

What I'm basically asking is do you personality know people, or have had contact with people whilst out canvassing for either side, or just discussing the referendum generally, who have stated that they do not intend to vote, and if so, what reasons have they given for not doing so?

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 09:25

Everyone I know is voting tomorrow in my family and circle of friends. I don't know of anyone eligible to vote who isn't.

FannyFifer · 17/09/2014 09:26

NCforAye, we do have cards, personally though unless the gate is quite far from actual entrance to polling station I tell people to not give them out.

No harassing anyone, have them in your hand but certainly don't force them on anyone.

Thinking of polling stations locally, we are standing just beside main entrance to a lot of them & handing cards out in that circumstance is not acceptable.

There are no rules against it per se but I'm not there to piss people off.

I won't be handing them out. Unless someone requests one. Smile

OneNight · 17/09/2014 09:28

Best of luck with the blood tests and hospital appointment IrnBru and EWF.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 17/09/2014 09:28

IrnBru all I can say is that I cannot agree with you re. BBC bias. I find myself shouting at the radio that they're giving Yessers too much leeway, but I am aware that I am perhaps biased in my opinion - so it cuts both ways.

All we can do is what we've done on these threads which is question every statement and dig down to the figures underlying them. Stats has done a great job I think in helping us find the important figures

allybally1963 · 17/09/2014 09:28

Fontella, I met one guy who is not voting because he didn't register when he moved house - said it was a mistake not to register, but also said he doesn't trust any politician so probably wouldn't have voted anyway. Not very helpful!

grandtheftmanual · 17/09/2014 09:29

Irnbru, a couple of posters yesterday asked you for links to the Kevin Bridges stuff - I haven't been able to find the pieces.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 09:30

Yes myroomisatip it might have been mentioned Grin

Irn BBC is not biased. There are comments both ways that make you think Hmm The 'yes' think it's biased, the 'no' think it's biased Grin

OneNight · 17/09/2014 09:31

Could I briefly remind anyone reading this thread that you are all tasked to keep your eyes open tomorrow and Friday for my 23 ? If I can establish what it meant and hone the relevant skills it could make a belated fortune for me.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 17/09/2014 09:31

I haven't come across anyone who is not voting.

If I do find out someone abstained, they will be set adrift on a small ice floe somewhere off Rockall.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 09:31

grandtheftmanual it's on the BBC Scotland webpage.

Is it your lottery numbers!? Grin

grandtheftmanual · 17/09/2014 09:32

Re BBC bias - have raised this before, they are accused of bias on both sides, it was the same during the Israel/Palestine conflict. If a broadcaster receives complaints of bias from both sides, theybare as likely to be as fair as it is possible to be. I am not blinkered to faults within the BBC, but we are, on the whole, very, very lucky in our national broadcaster.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 09:32

Freddie Grin Fair enough too!

OneNight Will do. I think it will be 23 Indyref threads before the result is known :)

FannyFifer · 17/09/2014 09:34

Mumsnet really should have just given us an Indyref topic on the site. :)
