ItsAllGoingToBeFine, but who will be Prime Minister? Pretty unsatisfactory changing halfway through. My suggestion was that maybe Cameron, Clegg, Miliband et al agree on a team and step back themselves. It would make the end result a joint enterprise and could prevent years of feuding in rUK.

BardarbungaBardarbing hope you enjoyed your Bakewell slice, much better choice than horrible old Battenburg! Wink

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/09/2014 12:31

Here from the Herald - 100 business leaders saying no thanks....

I've already posted the links to the 300+ business folk saying Yes please Smile

WildThong · 11/09/2014 12:37

itsall aye, several times Grin
Doesn't take way from this list though (which could probably be added to if anyone could be bothered digging out the links)
We are reaching an impasse!

OOAOML · 11/09/2014 12:38

Thanks ItsAll but by profile I meant percentage in each country. Would also depend what products they sell where.

I think it will be bad for most financial services companies. Others don't. By this stage most of us posting here are pretty fixed in their opinions, and we can all find stuff to back those up.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/09/2014 12:42

We are reaching an impasse

This whole compilation of threads has been an impasse Grin I live in hope that someone actually finds some of the content useful.

WildThong · 11/09/2014 12:44

I have for one

Roseformeplease · 11/09/2014 12:44

The 300+ folk saying yes from Business Scotland are mostly sole traders. Their individual vote only counts, as for everyone else, as 1 per person. However, with the larger businesses, their choices will make a huge difference to very many lives.

I will take Standard Life and RBS and their view to relocate south over someone running a tiny business but who happens to have a very loud voice.

No response from the Yessers to my evidence of real SNP cuts in order to fund flagship policies. Cuts that have affected every child in Scotland.

(And, Education is fully devolved. They could easily have charged wealthier students tuition fees in order to put money into educating the poorest but, hey, that doesn't make headlines.)

Have you got a link for the breakdown? I'm way too lazy to do it myself Smile

Luckytwo · 11/09/2014 12:47

It has all been very interesting to read :)

I don't live there so I can't vote, to my disgust. In some ways though I am pleased as I am having sleepless nights about it. If I had to choose one way or another I think my marriage and relationship with some of my children would be in jeopardy as I don't think we would all agree.

However as a labour voter in Surrey I certainly know all about not having my voice heard . You can take the girl out of Glasgow but not Glasgow out of the girl

AnnieHoo · 11/09/2014 12:48

Wow 4.2M is huge!!!

BardarbungaBardarbing · 11/09/2014 12:49

More northern squoosh and no royal connections..a little hint of the English radical tradition rather than that slightly suspect Battenburg.

grovel · 11/09/2014 12:52

Must be lonely being a Labour voter in Guildford or Godalming!

Michael Gove's constituency actually. Hoping that recent events might give us a chance Grin

Always the optimist.....

Are you the Scottish woman who tried to get me buy shortbread in M&S Camberley?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 13:07

Financial services needs slimming... These are real people with real jobs. I have never seen so many supposedly left leaning people be so blasé about the jobs of ordinary people. Did you say actually, The coal mines weren't very efficient. Thatcher was right to shut them. They needed slimming...

Ps last time a company I worked for stated they had no plans to cut jobs I was made redundant three months later.

Luckytwo · 11/09/2014 13:09

Smile grovel......you'll never know.
Probably not - M&S shortbread isn't the real deal at all .... but yes I have been known to frequent the Meadows.

alibet · 11/09/2014 13:22

Following his "scaremongering" response to the SL/RBS/Lloyds Official Announcements, does even the most commited 'yesser' trust anything AS says anymore? If he persists in denying or disputing factual positions, what faith can we have in his Whitepaper promises?

This is the 'statesman' who lied about an EU legal opinion, threatens to renege on debts / blockade the north sea(!), dismisses independent experts and generally shouts down or bullys anyone who disagrees with him.

Given his personal conduct, who can doubt that he has orchestrated the cybernat / streetnat campaigns, so what chance of a Fairer Scotland in his hands?

Worst of all is the way he arrogantly purports to speak for the whole of Scotland, totally ignoring the millions of patriotic Scots who don't share his divisive views. What a worrying prospect for democracy should separation occur.

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/09/2014 13:26

I completely agree re Salmond. He is an untrustworthy bully.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/09/2014 13:30

That's not fair Statistically I could say that No voters don't give a shit about all the children being pushed into poverty, about the old people dying of hypothermia, about the disabled dying before they get the benefits - but that wouldn't be fair either.

Thecatisatwat · 11/09/2014 13:37

I think the saddest thing about the referendum is that it will change the relationship between Scotland and the rest of the UK no matter what the outcome.

The Times today reports NS as saying 'The most important thing is first to recognise that there are people who are disappointed with the result. It will take a few days for that to settle down, and though I'm sure that for some people it might take longer..... I don't think that bitterness is going to be a legacy of this referendum'. I'm assuming she means in Scotland and hasn't actually considered the bitterness between Scotland and the rest of the UK. As an English born woman living in England I've always been proud of being British and all the connections with Scotland, Wales and NI and can't understand why we have separate football teams.

So..... I am fucking mad that this is something that will affect the rest of UK and yet I have no say in it. If the vote is yes, the rUK will be in chaos (and will be spending buckets of money) as it tries to untangle the two countries. If the vote is no the pressure is on for the main parties to devolve further powers to Scotland which is obviously a) not fair to other parts of the UK and b) a fantastic opportunity for parties like UKIP to step in and stand up to Scotland. Either way I'm bitter already.

And I still haven't heard a definitive answer on the border control issue. AS blithely says that there won't be border controls between England and Scotland. Scotland may not have border controls but under Schengen region rules England may have to create them because under EU rules, EU countries have a duty to have stronger border controls between them and non-EU countries. And I assume that if Scotland votes yes, on Sept 19th Scotland ceases to become an EU country.

Luckytwo · 11/09/2014 13:38

When so many think AS is an untrustworthy bully, how on earth has he got this far ? ? ?

I was watching Nicola Sturgeon last night on one of the news programmes, and I actually felt quite sorry for her. When it all goes wrong - whether that is next Thursday or at some later stage - I expect she will be the fall guy. I have found her more reasoned and sensible than Eck. She must be ruing the day she ever got involved.

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/09/2014 13:40

Prettybird your attempts to compare what is going on in Scotland with what happened in South Africa are ridiculous.

No one is questioning what happened there. It has no bearing whatever on what is happening here.

And as for quoting Mandela I think that was as irrelevant as the "Nazi" jibes which were rightly jumped on. It's another attempt to claim a spurious moral high ground for yes.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 11/09/2014 13:43

Statistically I've been in that situation too & the thing is, job security in financial services is/has always/will always be very precarious. I've worked in the industry for over 20 years, and IMO all these companies coming up with contingency plans if it's a yes, will take full advantage of the opportunity to re-assess their 'efficiency' and move towards the 'slimming down' mentioned, even if it's a no. That's the nature of this beast and as much as I fear for my job if it's a yes, I'm not filled with huge optimism if it's a no.

I've seen decisions made on a whim as to where to place work relating to Scottish business - some think it can be done anywhere, all you have to do is train your staff on the differences of processes, and others believe you need scottish work/business dealt with by Scottish based staff. It's an endless conflict, and is at the mercy of the next executive who wants to make a name for themselves. I have personal experience of having to watch Fred Goodwin bullshit vast swathes of staff under his warped leadership & none of the damaging decisions he made had a thing to do with whether Scottish independence was an issue.

There is huge uncertainty with the outcome of both decisions, and what the past couple of days has shown me is the large multinational banks/industries are not making decisions on whether Scotland is independent or not, but on what their bottom line is, and that can have a massive devastating effect on either iScotland or whether we are part of the UK.
