Just reminiscing about my time as a yoof. I drank wine with my friends from the age of 14 onwards. It's still my drink of choice. I remember being 15 and taking a bottle of my dad's £40 red, drank the entire bottle and vomited on the village green Grin. I liked sweet rose but I also had a taste for a nice dry Italian White. I liked red, but only the expensive stuff I could take from my dad's collection Blush. I remember using my elder sister's ID to go to nightclubs in Exeter wild and ordering bottles of wine, the staff were a bit Hmm. Still a wino but I also dabble in cocktails now! I went to school with the son of a Fairly famous (or he was then) food journo and drinking fuckloads and shagging him too his dad's wine collection with him. I'm 32, this thread could be an indicator of age lol. Share any memories of a misspent yoof too!

So what have you been drinking today?

Latara · 06/09/2014 20:20

Cider, and Budweiser / Becks. Also Hooch, remember that?

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 20:20

Haha I've actually had a bottle of red, from my dad's collection as my DDs are visiting relatives with my parents nothing changes Blush

When I was a young teen my choice of tipple was cheap and cheerful lambrini/lambrella/other versions

Not because it was nice

I then progressed onto vodka, and this is still my preferred drink today

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 20:21

Yes! Hooch was a lemon tasting cider/alcopop thing? I did try that and had it with shots of vodka as a student!

mad dog or thunderbird!

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 20:21

I've never tried lambrini, I do fancy the cherry one though.

As a teenager - spirits. Bacardi, Southern comfort, vodka, Bells whisky. How I afforded it or didn't die of alcoholic poisoning I don't know. Now, an occasional glass of fizzy rose.

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 06/09/2014 20:23

I went through various phases, vodka and lime, Malibu and pineapple (which would make me boak now - so sweet, what was I thinking? Shock) and whisky and lime which sounds like sacrilege but is lovely.

I discovered gin and tonic when I was about 19 or 20 and I have only really ever drunk G&T ever since, although recently I've been having vodka and tonic as well. Nearly 30 years.

Aliceinvodkaland · 06/09/2014 20:23

cider

gordyslovesheep · 06/09/2014 20:23

Thunderbird Blue or Merrydown

FoxSticks · 06/09/2014 20:24

White lightening or any other cheap cider at about 14. We used to make concoctions in soda stream bottles taking a bit of all the drinks in our parents houses, then we would drink that at Reading train station o. A Saturday afternoon. When I got a bit more sophisticated (Grin) i moved onto Malibu and coke, and then JD and coke.

TheEnchantedForest · 06/09/2014 20:24

Merrydown cider and MD 20/20 !!!
no idea how I passed any exams etc!

CundtBake · 06/09/2014 20:24

Cherry Lambrini. Just the thought of it makes me heave

And Malibu, on it's own, straight from the bottle.

This was all from the age of 13-16. I'm much classier now of course Hmm

redexpat · 06/09/2014 20:24

My parents' wine.
Archers and lemonade.
Bacardi and coke.
Bacardi breezers.
Smirnoff Ice.

I still like my parents' wine, and very occasionally a bacardi and coke, though more into g&t these days. Also asti martini.

Latara · 06/09/2014 20:24

Hooch was lemon & vodka I think. I saw it for sale the other day in Sainsbury & would of bought it but sadly I can't drink alcohol now due to meds.

I remember having lots of Aftershock, it was gross now I think about it.

I couldn't steal my dad's alcohol because he's only ever drank whisky & Real Ale which I can't stand.

maras2 · 06/09/2014 20:25

Cherry B.Then as I grew older, barley wine.

Bulbasaur · 06/09/2014 20:25

Vodka with Red Mountain Dew.

Now I just drink it straight with some ice. :)

Yambabe · 06/09/2014 20:26

Started with dry martini and lemonade (at 17 I probably thought it was sophisticated lol) then progressed to bacardi which is still my drink of choice now although to be fair I will drink most things except red wine and gin.

bluebump · 06/09/2014 20:26

Me and my friends used to drink cider mainly. We also liked MD 50/50, Hooch, Thunderbird and Woodys (i'm not leaving many drinks out am I here, we obviously weren't fussy!) I too used to visit Exeter nightclubs when I was 17 onwards!

memememum · 06/09/2014 20:26

When at 16 I went to the FE college to do my a levels and started going to the pub I asked myum what to order, as I had no idea! She recommended rum and coke, which was really nice actually.

I feel sorry for young people now who get checked for id at every turn seemingly up to about age 30 (I am guilty of this myself as I have to id when someone looks about 25 and am not keen on getting a fine or sacked for getting it wrong). At college we never had any problems and I even used to buy rizlas from age about 14 to clean my instrument pads!
