Just reminiscing about my time as a yoof. I drank wine with my friends from the age of 14 onwards. It's still my drink of choice. I remember being 15 and taking a bottle of my dad's £40 red, drank the entire bottle and vomited on the village green Grin. I liked sweet rose but I also had a taste for a nice dry Italian White. I liked red, but only the expensive stuff I could take from my dad's collection Blush. I remember using my elder sister's ID to go to nightclubs in Exeter wild and ordering bottles of wine, the staff were a bit Hmm. Still a wino but I also dabble in cocktails now! I went to school with the son of a Fairly famous (or he was then) food journo and drinking fuckloads and shagging him too his dad's wine collection with him. I'm 32, this thread could be an indicator of age lol. Share any memories of a misspent yoof too!

Have now remembered (hazily) snakebite and black (beer, cider and blackcurrant) at university on student nights £1 a drink (usually had drink budget of about £7.

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 20:58

I have seen hooch in shops! I might buy a bottle and experiment with it. I think hooch, vodka and something lime based with ice could make a nice combination? blue bump are we around the same age? I used to go out in Exeter between the age of 16-18 (1998-2000). What is 20/20? Am I missing out on a great drink? Hah wine was SO sophisticated as a teen! I was such a knob sophisticate I brazenly drank a bottle through a straw on the cricket lawn of my school.

Snakebite black
White lightening
Newcastle brown

I was very classy

titchy · 06/09/2014 21:01

Snakebite and black, thunderbird, merry down, hooch, Pernod and black Smile

Lager top, wine or thunderbird at university.

Wine spritzers now.

So what do teens drink these days?

MyGastIsFlabbered · 06/09/2014 21:03

Pink Lambrusco Blush

wellnowthenmardybum · 06/09/2014 21:04

How do teens even get drink nowadays?
I used to drink any cheap cider. Cannot stand the stuff now

bauhausfan · 06/09/2014 21:06

My sister and I got lifted by the cops aged 13 & 14 for buying cans of Special Brew. When they discovered that we were their colleague's daughters (dad in the CID) they burst out laughing and let us keep our stash.

I moved on to Concorde (£1.99) and then onto vodka - 1/4 bottle of the cheapest stuff washed down with one can of coke - we were so drunk I was practically hallucinating every Saturday night. I also had a few dodgy experiences with Thunderbird and Merrydown - yuck.

It was always a case of getting pissed with my mates before we actually went out. I couldn't afford to get drunk in a pub until I was about 24 :)

CommanderShepard · 06/09/2014 21:07

JD and coke before uni; Passoa and lemonade or snakey b during.

Nowadays wine, beer or gin.

mummytowillow · 06/09/2014 21:07

Half a cider and black currant, still love it now!

FunkyZebraHat · 06/09/2014 21:07

Metz! glad to see I'm not the only one here that had Metz as their first alcohol. Wish they still made it.

Oh and cheap bucks fizz that was not very alcoholic at all in the ready mixed bottles my parents bought me a few times on special occasions when I was a not legal teen.

XiCi · 06/09/2014 21:08

Oh yes thenightsky Concorde wine brings back memories, that has made me smile...and Country Manor. God I would probably be sick if I tried them now. We then moved onto Thunderbird a fortified wine which came in a blue (strong) or red (rocket fuel) bottle. Then followed the merrydown cider before we moved on to Archers, Southern Comfort and other assorted shite. Happy days Grin

MrsMinton · 06/09/2014 21:09

Diamond blush or 20/20. I stopped drinking diamond blush after I spilt some and it stripped the polish off my Docs!

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 06/09/2014 21:10

Ouch!

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 21:11

I still get pissed before I go out... I find walking into a busy pub or bar or club etc on a Friday sober very intimidating! I neck a bottle of rose as I wait for the taxi Grin

Ohanarama · 06/09/2014 21:12

Snakebite and black mmmmmmmm want one now!
Cisco - strong fruity fortified wine, mega cheap and strong, also mad dog 20 20

WorraLiberty · 06/09/2014 21:12

Snake bite was our drink of choice as teens, because it was one of the few alcoholic drinks that tasted fruity.

If I was a teen today, I suspect I'd go for alcopops.

grillembakeemfryemeatem · 06/09/2014 21:12

Diamond White, White Lightening, Hooch. Basically anything cheap and that someone was willing to buy for us at the off licence.

WorraLiberty · 06/09/2014 21:13

X posted with Ohanarama Cheers! Grin

WitchWay · 06/09/2014 21:13

Dry cider as a young teen - still my "beery" drink of choice

Later wine too, as a student, occasionally awful stuff like Thunderbird, also snakebites made with bitter & cider

LoafersOrLouboutins · 06/09/2014 21:14

Also, I've never heard a condom called a dunkie. But I was so stupid and immature irresponsible I was convinced I could just rely on the pill because nobody who I slept with would have an STI. They were naice boys. It wasn't until I moved to Leeds for uni I began to take some responsibility.

wellnowthenmardybum · 06/09/2014 21:15

If i was a teen today it would probably be wkd or something equally as sweetie tasting.

bluebump · 06/09/2014 21:16

LoafersOrLouboutins I think i'm a bit older than you, I was 16 in '94 but we probably ended up at the same places around the same time!

bayrans · 06/09/2014 21:16

Thunderbird, although I'm still not sure what it was, fortified wine?
Reef, when alcopops were everywhere in the early 90s.
Southern comfort and coke when I was feeling flush!

These days, a nice glass of red, preferably an Italian red, no spicy heartburn new world rubbish.
Or a margarita.

DustyCropHopper · 06/09/2014 21:29

I drank Diamond White, Hooch, aftershock and tia maria and coke, then I moved on to archers and lemonade.
