Just reminiscing about my time as a yoof. I drank wine with my friends from the age of 14 onwards. It's still my drink of choice. I remember being 15 and taking a bottle of my dad's £40 red, drank the entire bottle and vomited on the village green Grin. I liked sweet rose but I also had a taste for a nice dry Italian White. I liked red, but only the expensive stuff I could take from my dad's collection Blush. I remember using my elder sister's ID to go to nightclubs in Exeter wild and ordering bottles of wine, the staff were a bit Hmm. Still a wino but I also dabble in cocktails now! I went to school with the son of a Fairly famous (or he was then) food journo and drinking fuckloads and shagging him too his dad's wine collection with him. I'm 32, this thread could be an indicator of age lol. Share any memories of a misspent yoof too!

Concorde wine. Or a Black Russian if I was feeling sophisticated, and all dressed up in my black lace-topped bodysuit and high-waisted light blue jeans.

Eminybob · 06/09/2014 20:27

Hooch is back! They sell it in weatherspoons!

We used to drink:
Peach schnapps and lemonade
Southern comfort, lime and lemonade
Malibu and pineapple
Lambrusco Bianco
Hooch
Bacardi breezers
Smirnoff mules

AuntieStella · 06/09/2014 20:29

When I was a teen, a dunkie was a condom

Eminybob · 06/09/2014 20:30

Oh and WKD when it first came out and the only flavour was iron bru.

And speaking of which, vodka and iron bru.

beccajoh · 06/09/2014 20:31

Archers and lemonade.

WhatsMyAgeAgain · 06/09/2014 20:32

20 20. Wed buy a big bottle and neck it till halfway down then my mate would finish it. Nasty stuff. Moved onto vodka and squash as squash was free in the pub a friend worked at. Can't touch vodka now. Squash I'm ok with

PiperIsOrange · 06/09/2014 20:32

Frosty jacks cider, I prefer wine these days.

MrsBungle · 06/09/2014 20:33

We started off heavy duty! We used to fill tupper-wear tumblers (which had lids) with a wee nip of everything from the wall unit pull down drinks cabinet (can you tell this was early 90's?!). It was a horrific concoction and I'm surprised my friends and I are still alive.

We moved on to:

Merry down or white lightening cider
Then mad dog 20/20

Then (once we were legal) hooch, castaway and bottles of becks and vodka and orange.

Now I drink wine or lager.

Peach schnapps and lemonade or Malibu and coke.

Idontseeanysontarans · 06/09/2014 20:36

Blastaways!! Bottle of Castaway mixed with half a pint of strong cider or a bottle of K cider.
Hooch was a favourite for a while the I moved onto Guinness Grin

SquirrelWearingATrilby · 06/09/2014 20:37

Malibu and Coke, but after one spectacular vom evening, I have never touched the stuff again.

Vodka and Orange then went off it.

Cinzano and lemonade. So sweet!

Then found dry white wine.

My home. I need to have dry wine in the house, as it's my drink. I do drink red wine if I haven't white but my preference IS white. A crisp sauvignon blanc mmm.

Andrewofgg · 06/09/2014 20:38

Genuine Czech Pilsener - not the American rubbish of the same name.

Oodlives · 06/09/2014 20:40

Kiwi 20/20 (all my friends drunk cider urgh) , then moved onto alcopops, I remember Hooch just coming out in my local, then moved onto vodka related drinks

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/09/2014 20:41

Archers and lemonade

Happy36 · 06/09/2014 20:44

Martini or Cinzano, cheap vodka, Archer´s, Malibu, Bacardi (all neat) as "prinks" in the street or on a train or bus then go to a house party and share cans of warm lager with boys. Got into wine at about 16 and used to drink sweet German or Hungarian wine from pint glasses. Got into gin and tonics at 19. Drink a glass of (usually red) wine once or twice a week now and a very occasional Mojito or Cosmopolitan.

playftseforme · 06/09/2014 20:45

Taboo Grin

Doingthedo · 06/09/2014 20:45

ahhh, the Blastaway...our version was a bottle each of Castaway and Diamond white mixed in a pint glass - classy

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 06/09/2014 20:47

Metz
Smirnoff ice, don't even know if they make these anymore?

I then went on to drink vodka or archers and OJ.

I Now prefer red wine or Malibu & coke.

TattyDevine · 06/09/2014 20:48

Midori and lemonade Blush

Basically didn't taste even vaguely alcoholic but did the job, eventually.

Wine was an acquired taste - it wasn't until I was 21 or so that I "got" it, despite my parents being winos enthusiasts.

Now I mainly -dunk- drink wine Wine

AlpacaLypse · 06/09/2014 20:54

There was a market stall on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which officially sold cheese and cured meat, eg ham and bacon, but if you asked him and went round the back you could buy eight pint plastic containers of scrumpy cider for 50p (shows age).

I took one to a school play I was acting in and passed it round in the dressing rooms on the last night.

Mrs C got very very cross with us, especially after the lead actor fell off the stage...

Idontseeanysontarans · 06/09/2014 20:54

I was introduced to Midori in NZ, I seem to remember it came in ready mixed bottles as well over there. DH buys me the occasional bottle when he sees it but it doesn't taste quite as good as I thought it did!
My Taboo and lemonade was rather short lived due to it tasting even worse on the way back up..

thenightsky · 06/09/2014 20:55

Cider of any type when I was 14 and 15 (mid-seventies)

in 6th form me and my mate used to drink port and lemon coz we thought it looked sophisticated Blush

I also worked my through all the usual 70s shite such as Campari, Cinzano etc.

And does anyone remember Concorde English Wine? Grin

Hassled · 06/09/2014 20:55

Southern Comfort and Lemonade. That or a Snakebite. I was right classy.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/09/2014 20:56

I was going to say rich tea biscuits - dunked them in tea in the morning when I got into bed next to my grandparents Grin

But drink-wise? Advocaat was an early discovery one Christmas, also cherry brandy. Later stayed up all night on a hillside on geography field trip (with most of the other students - where were the leaders?!) drinking snow-balls (still had a taste for lovely advocaat)

Port with stilton and walnuts with DDaddy (especially) after Christmas dinner

Finally have always preferred cider to beer (which I'm still not overly keen on, in spite of much training of taste buds on continental holidays Grin). This was helped by going to Uni in the west country Smile

These days wine is good Wine, and have been discovering rose this summer. Mmmmm, strawberry juice with benefits Grin
