Yes I think it would. PILs always tried to impose unwanted nicknames onto our DC. eg, Milly, Matty or such like. Always pissed me off.

My son's childminder always called him "Jake". I never said anything but carried on calling him "Jacob". When he got older he told her to stop because his name was "Jacob". Seethe quietly; it'll work out in the end. :o

No. If that was my only worry my child's name being shortened I'd have none.
Also what if your son wants to be known as Jake when he's older. You can't say when he's 21 your name is Jacob not Jake. Everyone as the right to a name and a preferred name.

Well obviously we know that's an example but unless you tell us the actual name how are we supposed to know if it's unreasonable - Jake is acceptable for Jacob but the one you're talking about might be pure madness. We don't know until you tell us.

I'd correct anyone who did it. Every. Single. Time.

If they didn't take note that they were being corrected I'd be fast to tell them how rude they were being.

If they carried on I'd be telling my DC to ignore them until they used the correct name.

Yes it would piss me off if I called my son Jacob all the time and my mum decided to call him Jake fwiw I have an Alexander I wanted to call him his full name but side he was about six months old he has been known as Alex everybody calls him Alex now but it still irks a bit!

If he was never known as Jake by anyone else and I didn't want him to be called Jake, yes it would. Those who've said no, if someone called you a variation of your name that you didn't use, wouldn't it piss you off? It does me.

Nope, wouldn't bother me. I love the fact that the DC's GPs have NN for them. Loved is the child of many names. It shows great affection ime.

Mine has a 3 syllable name which we shorten to a 2 syllable one ending in -a. Along the lines of "This is Danny, short for Daniel" "Hi, Danno". If my mum decided she preferred to use Danno, I'd be a bit but maybe let her get on with it while simply referring to my child as Danny.

What really pisses me off is randomers doing it my boss, who's met ds twice for 5 minutes total
