Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

I've been known to let my husband perform cunnilingus on me when I haven't showered. What do you think about that? Hmm? Hmmmmmmmmm?

I think that is quite disgusting. After spending the day having several wees and just general sweating and stuff there is no way I would let DH put his face anywhere near my undercarriage if I hadn't showered. It works in reverse too- I ain't going to put my lips on a penis that has released urine since washing or has even the slightest smell of sweatiness.

Tallypet · 28/08/2014 09:10

Pistol that's entirely your choice. It's not something I would do. I don't think I really needed to know that either - what you do with your DH is none of my business - this is a thread about showering and not about your sex life Hmm

500smiles · 28/08/2014 09:21

Miss unreasonable totally agree

HappydaysArehere · 28/08/2014 09:41

Used to shower every day when shower was in the bath. Now got replacement shower in large cabinet. All that wiping cabinet down to get it dry and therefore free of possible mould drives me to use it twice a week when I wash my hair. Other days I stand in large bowl of water which has shower gel added and wash myself over with acqueous cream and water. When I shower dh usually follows so he gets the job of wiping it down. I am of the generation who only bathed once a week and thought this was normal!

ArgyMargy · 28/08/2014 10:00

Happydays it's interesting how attitudes change isn't it? Apparently we were all disgusting 20 or 30 years ago...

aubreye · 28/08/2014 10:09

How can cleaning teeth and listerine take 10 minutes? The recommended time for brushing teeth is two minutes (said by dental professionals) and I'm sure you wouldn't keep mouthwash in your mouth for 8 minutes would you? I spend 4 minutes on oral hygiene in the morning.

Takes me five minutes in the shower and I get my legs and "undercarriage" (itsbetter Grin) waxed professionally always at weekends. Armpits I shave every other day like you which takes about two minute so that's seven minutes there.

Dry hair (five minutes) I have a strong hair dryer. And I have straight hair anyway so that's fine.

Get dressed and light makeup (jewellery isn't permitted at work and I have a mask over my face all day anyway so I don't need anything fancy. (6 minutes)

Total time: 22 minutes. Damn I'm fast.

Then I make sure DC are dressed and fed, feed myself and get them off to school before driving to work. Busy mornings!

chumrun · 28/08/2014 10:12

Personally I like brushing my teeth for about 8 minutes - I use an electric brush.

MehsMum · 28/08/2014 15:45

8 minutes! Are you mad! My toothbrush times it for 2 mins and those are the most boring 2 mins of the bloody day.

One of my DC said a while ago, 'If I'm ever told the world will end in 2 minutes, I'll go and brush my teeth because it always feels like FOREVER!'

Lweji · 28/08/2014 15:48

I think you may be at increased risk of tooth decay. :)

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/08/2014 15:50

Every two-three days when my hair needs washing.

I've never worked out this obsession with showering.

Just wastes time and money.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/08/2014 15:52

Not to mention being shit for the environment. Three long haired females get through enough shampoo and conditioner as it is without increasing it.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/08/2014 15:55

Exactly, I'm of the age where DMum had a fit at hot water usage if you bathed more than twice a week.

Showering when clean, or bathing clean children still seems really, really pointless.

Babycham1979 · 28/08/2014 16:37

Doesn't anyone else have to have a crap in the morning?!

itsbetterthanabox · 28/08/2014 16:49

Those who don't shower everyday do you all strip wash on the days in between? As in with a flannel at the sink?
Or do you not wash at all on the in between days.
I must know this!

MrsHathaway · 28/08/2014 16:52

Top random tip: toothpaste is incredible for nettle stings. Smear on and leave (might need covering with a plaster or bandage).

I don't shower every day. I didn't live in a house with a shower until I was 15 and daily baths would have been a total PITA. My skin would be desperately dry anyway - it takes an itchy day to recover as it is.

MrsHathaway · 28/08/2014 16:56

Nothing on the no-shower days (see dry skin) unless particularly sweaty from weather or exercise but it's all the washing that causes the oil production so really not necessary.

I'm sure it is partly genetic and partly your skin's expectations.

blueshoes · 28/08/2014 17:15

itsbetter, it is what a bidet is for.

KoalaDownUnder · 28/08/2014 17:22

How many toilets in the UK have a bidet, though?

redshifter · 28/08/2014 17:27

Shower 3 mins max. Sometimes shave my face, if rushed with an electric shaver - 2 mins max.

Is it patronising to feel sorry for people that society makes them feel they have to mess about with washing hair, unnecessarily shaving various parts of their body, putting crap cosmetics on their face and wearing the required jewellery?

BertieBotts · 28/08/2014 17:31

It takes me ages to do my teeth properly :( Yes 2-3 mins to actually brush but then a good 20 to floss. As a result I don't do that every day (probably half of why it takes so long but hey Hmm)

I also don't shower every day, once in 36-48 hours is fine unless particularly sweaty for some reason, I don't smell. My hair only gets greasy after about 3 or 4 days.

monsterowl · 28/08/2014 17:42

I shower every day. I wash hair every other day (but soak it on non-washing days). Shave every 2-3 days (used to shave every day but found that I didn't get as clean a shave, so defeats the object).

I don't believe this 'it's better for your skin to shower less frequently' stuff. When the kids were much smaller I often didn't get a chance to shower, so I'd shower every 2-3 days, and on non-showering days would have a thorough wash. I found that I got patches of hard skin on my elbows, knees, and bottom. My skin is definitely in better condition showering every day (and I moisturise about 2 out of 3 days).

monsterowl · 28/08/2014 17:43

OMG, 20 mins to floss teeth?! I floss every night and it takes me under a minute.

TBH I really resent spending time on any sort of grooming, especially since having kids and more demands on my time!

combust22 · 28/08/2014 17:57

My dental hygienistflosses my teeth and it takes her ( and me ) a minute. 20 minutes seems excessive.

windchime · 28/08/2014 19:20

I am a nurse so I shower when I get home and shower again in the morning because no-one wants a 'just woke up' nursey armpit across their face.

Tallypet · 28/08/2014 20:48

I've cut down to 40 minutes. Only because I arse around with coffee etc.
Wash my hair almost every day but sometimes every second. Shower in morning takes ten minutes, same for hair and makeup then it's faffing with what to wear.

In winter I sometimes shower in the morning and bath at night then shower again the next morning (bit excessive but I love a good, hot soak) Grin
