Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

How do you do it so quickly? It seems to take me forever, I wonder if I'm doing it wrong. I definitely couldn't do it in under a minute even if I just had to do in between each tooth once.

BertieBotts · 28/08/2014 21:27

Which I don't. I seem to produce ridiculous amounts of plaque Confused

Chwaraeteg · 28/08/2014 21:42

I only shower about 3 times a week unless the weather is particularly hot.

One of these showers is usually a ' luxury' shower I.e where I condition my hair, shave everything that needs shaving and, if I need it, apply body lotion. The other showers will just be a mad dash of shampooing hair, washing and out!

No need to be showering every day unless you are exercising a lot. All these people moisturizing and conditioning every day - you wouldn't need to if you didn't shower so much.

I do wash my face, foof and bum and underarms at least once a day though and obviously, clean my teeth twice a day.

I grew up in a family of six with one bath and no shower so the idea of showering every day is a completely alien concept to me.

flipchart · 28/08/2014 22:17

Blindly at some of you lot!
I can have my alarm go off at 6.30 am, snooze it, get up shower, dress, teeth a bit of make up, sort hair drive to work and start at 7.00 am.
Seriously.
I've done that 3 times this week.

combust22 · 28/08/2014 22:32

flip- don't you have kids to sort out?
I could easily do what you describe if I had no children.

RaRaSkirtsForever · 28/08/2014 22:58

Combust, ten years ago when mine were little I used to have to shower once they were asleep. Although, when I was a single working mum (working full time in London with four under five) my shower session in the gym was the only me-time I got!

flipchart · 29/08/2014 00:38

combust DH sorts them out.
I am not a morning person!

On my days off I Tay in bed with a brew until everyone has gone!

crashbandicoot · 29/08/2014 01:02

ok this is going to shock but I only bath/shower once a week.

i don't sweat much at all and don't have sex much or exert myself.

sometimes i bath or shower more often but that is for vanity reasons normally (i.e. want hair to look nice and swish.

i think showering every day is so bad for the planet that I would guilty.

crashbandicoot · 29/08/2014 01:08

*feel guilty

unrealhousewife · 29/08/2014 01:32

Up, wee, kettle on, feed cats, cats out, upstairs, shower inc hair and shave whatever needs shaving, contact lenses, teeth, moisurising, get dressed all in 20 minutes IF I'm in a rush. On weekends this routine can last for several hours.

Shonajay · 29/08/2014 02:24

Yep, I shaved my hair a few months back and it's still short so literally rub dry with a hand towel, gel, and done. Teeth five minutes, deodorant, make up five minutes, dress and go - back to bed usually lol.

JapaneseMargaret · 29/08/2014 03:14

Yes, I shower at least daily, if not twice.

I am always amazed on these threads, that people willingly come onto them and admit to not showering daily. It's one thing not to do it, but to admit to it as well. I'd be way too embarrassed.

And as for strip washes, or whatever the hell they are ... for heaven's sake. In the time it takes to faff around with that nonsense, just heft yourself into the shower and clean yourself properly. Confused

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 03:44

JapaneseMargaret I have no issue with telling people IRL that I don't shower daily. I'm not a sweaty person so I just shower/bath when I need to rather than just out of habit.

combust22 · 29/08/2014 06:44

flip- that must be nice, but for many of is is a luxury. I have to get up at 6am ( OH leaves for work at 6.30) in order to get myself and kids ready for school.

I am sure many of us could get as ready as quickly as you if we only had ourselves to focus on.

Taffeta · 29/08/2014 07:08

I have to shower and wash my hair every morning otherwise I feel rank. In my late teens and 20s I washed my hair twice a day. This was a hangover from boarding school where as a young teen I was only allowed to wash my hair once a week and it made me very weird about it. I weaned myself back to once a day after about 10 years.

Usually up at 7, showered, hair washed, teeth brushed, hair dried (BBH), dressed and made up in 20 minutes. Screech at DC just before I switch the BBH on, or sometimes as I go downstairs.

Then all the usual cat feeding, packed lunch making, breakfast making, brushing teeth nagging, shoe polo shining, where's my foooooooootball boots mum crap, clearing away, emptying dishwasher stuff etc. Leave house 8.15-8.30.

desertmum · 29/08/2014 07:47

I shower or have a bath everyday - but wash hair every 2/3 days depending on what I've been doing. My DS (late teens) got a skin rash/irritation that the dermatologist told him was from showering too much - which made the rest of us laugh as showering too much is not something DS does. So maybe that is their stock answer ? I can always tell when the kids haven't showered and can tell when others haven't too. Blegh, horrid. But I do have an exceptionally sensitive sense of smell. Takes me 30 mins on the days I work an early shift.

flipchart · 29/08/2014 09:45

combat. I don't know why you have singled me out for commenting that I can have a quick routine, many others have as well.
I was just making light of the fact that sometimes I don't faff for ages.

There's no need to be snipey. Of course it can take longer when you have others but that wasn't the point!

JapaneseMargaret · 29/08/2014 11:12

Fair enough Surfs, this being an anonymous forum, I can be honest and admit that I judge people who don't shower daily, as I imagine most people (who shower daily) do. It's not even just cleanliness I judge per se, I assume people who don't shower daily are lazy.

JapaneseMargaret · 29/08/2014 11:13

I'm not sweaty either, BTW. That's not what it's about.

DuelingFanjo · 29/08/2014 11:14

I don't have a shower. I used to bath every night but am now averaging about twice a week.

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 11:18

Well you'd be right here JapaneseMargaret I get up and get the kids some muesli and then I go back to bed with a cup of tea and read my book!
Lazy, yes, smelly, no, happy, you betcha! And thankfully I've never really been very worried about people judging me either!

Isn't the interweb funny!? The things we now know about other people that previous generations could never have imagined!

ThisIsNotTheRealMe · 29/08/2014 11:23

Some people don't shower daily because it's unnecessary. It doesn't mean they're lazy or smelly for that matter.

fluffyfanjo · 29/08/2014 11:27

Despite having a shower I have a bath every morning :

Get up @ 6am

Run bath whilst brushing teeth.

Shampoo hair
Put on conditioner
shave legs and pits
wash body
rinse hair

Takes 10 mins.

wrap hair and body in towels.

Put on face - 15 mins

Blow dry & straighten hair - 40 mins

Dress
Grab bag and leave house around 7.25

Don't have breakfast as my hair is more important !

ThatBloodyWoman · 29/08/2014 11:35

Whoever said that they brush their teeth for 8 minutes -surely that can't be good for gum health?

I worry about the increasing sterility of our lives. When did eau de artificial start smelling so good?

We can smell if we smell bad.Our partners and children will tell us if we smell bad.

Ok so a few will knowingly or unknowingly ignore the signals.Just like some will knowingly or unknowingly drench themselves in migraine inducing perfumes.

I would say we need to wash daily. But not necessarily shower.

I can't understand the disgust some daily showers express towards those who may not.

CatKisser · 29/08/2014 11:41

Nope - every other day for me, unless the weather is warm. I wear clean clothes every day and am pretty sure my delightful mates would have told me if I stink.
I'm going to make sure I shower in the evenings this Winter - getting up at 5:30 and showering in a house with a downstairs bathroom and no central heating is one of the most unpleasant experiences ever!
