Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

Ultra, we wish we'd never asked Hmm

ArgyMargy · 27/08/2014 18:28

Ah I understand now! The ones who need a thrice daily shower are the smokers!! Makes complete sense.

Lweji · 27/08/2014 18:30

Or those who have sex daily?

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 27/08/2014 18:54

I don't smoke or do sport or have sex being single but I still shower once a day. Twice if I was sweaty though.

I'm surprised down thread someone suggesting if you smell or get crusty you need to see a doctor?!?! I have a lot of discharge now I'm late thirties, never used to and some of it is my copper coil creating it I think, some hormones too and it's worse when ovulating but I haven't got an std or thrush. I got tested a year ago. No partners in a long time. I'm just unlucky in that dept these days. I'm sure I'm not the only one. So I need to wash my under carriage daily or twice a day sometimes. Sorry for the tmi. I just wanted to pick up on that comment.

Pollywallywinkles · 27/08/2014 19:28

It takes me no more than 45 mins from getting up to leaving the house. A good 15 mins are spent drinking coffee and reading news on iPad. Feed pets.

Shower, wash face, clean teeth. Straighten hair (never wash it in a morning), make up, get dressed. Make lunch. Grab bags and out.

susiedaisy · 27/08/2014 19:37

Shower every day most days twice a day takes about 40 mins on a morning to get from bed to front door and out. And about 15 mins on a night when I just get out of shower and get into bed.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 27/08/2014 19:56

Yes,

I get up at 7. DH takes the dog out while I sort out the DCs breakfast. I then get in the shower and quick wash. Hair 3/4 times a week (but that's mainly on a night). Clean teeth, get dressed and brush hair or straighten if I washed it the night before (I leave it to dry naturally in that case).

DH is usually back with the dog by the time Im out of the shower and he sorts out the DCs (well clothes for school for the older 2 - they can do the rest themselves)

Leave for work 7:45 (8AM if ive hung out the washing)

I only shave once a week, no-one can see it any other time. What surprises me is that I can dry my hair in 5 mins (10 tops) but hairdressers seem to take an age. They always comment about how thick my hair is and how it must take ages to dry it Confused

I dont always shower on a Sunday as I dont do a lot. If I see anyone its usually when Im out for my run so I probably smell anyway. I have a nice bath on a Sunday and that's when I pamper myself: shave legs and arms, deep condition my hair etc. Plus bedding gets changed on a Sunday so its the rules to have a bath before bed on Sundays.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/08/2014 19:57

DontstepontheMomeRaths I have a lot of discharge too. Not sure I need to see a doctor as they don't really smell or look strange. I sometimes just change my underpants when I get home from work. I was using pantyliners but think that's probably environmentally unfriendly. Thinking about using reusable pantyliners. Or maybe I'm just not used to being dirty?

Tallypet · 27/08/2014 20:12

I think it's gross to not show everyday. Even worse only 2-3 times per week. Confused
Honestly the pp's mentioning such lackadaisical hygiene habits must not be able to smell themselves. It would make me question other hygiene habits such as hand washing and general cleanliness tbh.
I would feel sticky and dirty if I didn't shower every day.

Lweji · 27/08/2014 20:28

You don't have to shower not to smell. You can simply wash the worst smelling bits. At least most women.
Some men smell as soon as they start sweating.

tilliebob · 27/08/2014 20:30

We all shower everyday and myself and the teens usually have a bath at night too.

purpleapple1234 · 27/08/2014 20:45

Used to shower every morning, then I started a job where I have to leave the house by 6.15. The shower was moved to the evenings and breakfast is eaten on the journey so it now takes 10-15 minutes to get dressed, teeth brushed and made up. I then discovered that after being so knackered from work that I just don't need a shower everyday. 3-4 times a week works just as well.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 27/08/2014 21:05

OneLittleToddleTerror I used to buy liners but started to feel it was bad for the environment. I've got some lovely reusable ones from luxurymoon now for my worst days. Mine doesn't smell either but I suppose if I didn't shower everyday it would Grin Nice to know I'm not alone.

Lweji · 27/08/2014 21:09

I have the same issue, and had never heard of disposable panty liners.

I hate the washing, as it gets sticky. Eew. I hated washing my pants when I was younger and before liners.
I suppose you put them through the washing machine, but still...

trufflesnout · 27/08/2014 21:16

I'm surprised down thread someone suggesting if you smell or get crusty you need to see a doctor?!?!

It was in reply to a few people saying "ew, surely if you don't shower every day you would get very smelly down below, I know I would", which is not normal IMHO

LosingAllTheLego · 27/08/2014 21:22

Brush teeth - 5 mins
Shower, including hair wash / condition and shaving of legs, armpits, random places hair sprouts up - 15-20 mins
Dry and put body lotion on - 5 mins
Iron - 2mins
Make up - 10mins (including letting moisturiser absorb and primer set)
Dry hair - 15mins
Brush hair / tie up - 5-10mins
Dress - 2mins

Roughly an hour. Could cut it shorter but it's important to me to be clean!

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 27/08/2014 21:37

I would smell definitely if I didn't wash there for 2 days or so. Not an awful smell but a normal female genitalia smell but I'd never want anyone to catch a whiff ever. I'd be mortified.

Washable san pro is fine, I do a load a day and just chuck it all in the machine. I don't even think about it tbh. Here these sort of things: luxurymoon.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_184_75&products_id=2237

ameliarose2012 · 27/08/2014 21:43

What about those of us who don't have a shower at home? If I wanted to wash my hair every day, then I have to get a bath. With a 2yo and a full time job, that's not so easy to do!

I get a bath every other day, and usually sneak a shower whenever I go to my parents! That probably makes 3-4 times a week. If I'm on my period, then probably more often.

I'm actually shocked that most people have time to bathe EVERY day! I'm up and out of the house in 15-20 mins (can do it in 10 if I oversleep!)

PistolWhipped · 27/08/2014 21:45

Tally, I've been known to let my husband perform cunnilingus on me when I haven't showered. What do you think about that? Hmm? Hmmmmmmmmm?

firefly78 · 27/08/2014 22:04

get up. go for a run. come back shower including hairwash. have curly hair so it dries naturally. cuppa and breakfast. clean teeth. get kids up. sort their breakfast make sure they've had a wee teeth got dressed sort their hair etc. get dressed. make my lunch. do make up in car!

Janethegirl · 27/08/2014 22:08

Not overly keen on cunnilingus if I've not had a shower tbh, never refuse it tho' Grin

BreadForBrains · 27/08/2014 23:02

Pistol that actually makes me feel a bit ill! Envy
I won't let dps face near there if I haven't showered in the last hour or so! Tbh, it's not a part of sex I really enjoy though, so it's rarely an issue Wink

TeamScotland · 27/08/2014 23:06

I shower daily, yes. I wash and condition my hair, (if not in a hurry I'll exfoliate my face) soap up my body, rinse hair and body, dry off, clean teeth, moisturise body, clean ears, cleanse/tone/moisturise face, comb and dry hair. Get dressed. Maybe some lip gloss. Whole routine takes between 10 and 15 mins, though I can speed it up if need be.

Before kids, the above, plus a full make up, coffee, fag, hair straighten, try on of several outfits, handbag swapping, general faff took a good hour.

RaRaSkirtsForever · 28/08/2014 00:56

During term time I jump in the shower every morning either after the kids have left for school or before OH leaves for work.

Although in all the heat this summer I have been showering either at bed time as well, it was just so hot some nights.

I get wet, body wash and rinse, shampoo hair, re-body rinse and shave, rinse shampoo, apply conditioner, third body rinse then rinse out conditioner and rest of shower gel. Then moisturise. Currently using Nspa range which is amazing, having switched from Clarins. Takes no more than 15 minutes, although my personal best for a shower (pre-children) was 75 minutes but I had fallen in a nettle bush on a long hike so the heat was so good on those stings. I have long hair but which I never blowdry, just wrap in a towel for an hour or so. It then gets put in a pleat or bun.

I have no idea why I wash my body three times, it is purely from habit.

deepbluetr · 28/08/2014 07:05

pistol- I have known some men to prefer performing oral sex to a unwashed woman- apparently the perfume is more fragrant.
