Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

Shower AM, bath PM.

MrsHathaway · 29/08/2014 11:48

I agree you can tell who hasn't showered in the last 12 hours (say) because they don't smell of shampoo/shower gel. In the same way, clothes new on smell of washing powder and fabric softener.

But I dispute that not smelling of the shower means smelling unpleasant. There's a range of "not smelling of anything really" before something needs a wash, contrary to advertisers' assertions Hmm

In any case, most of us who don't shower daily will still wear clean clothes and deodorant every morning, so the lovely P&G/Unilever smell will win!

ThatBloodyWoman · 29/08/2014 12:00

I agree Mrs.

monsterowl · 29/08/2014 12:10

Don't have breakfast as my hair is more important !

This is frankly depressing.

gordyslovesheep · 29/08/2014 12:14

I have a bath or shower and wash my hair every night. Frankly life is too short to faff in the morning - I get up and dressed in 10 mins flat

Teeth, contacts and a wee - drag brush through hair - put clothes on

I can't be arsed with make up or hair straightening

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 29/08/2014 12:16

Shower and wash hair every day during rehearsal season, every other day otherwise. I wash my face and underarms on days when I don't shower.

Will never understand this judginess over people who don't shower every day.

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 12:16

MrsH, I don't use soap or shower gel even when I do shower as I try to avoid using too many chemicals etc.

Do you really go around smelling people (intentionally or not)? I would say it's pretty unusual that I would actually be aware of someone smelling of shampoo/showergel as I'd have to be pretty close to them and even when I can smell a fragrance on them I wouldn't know if it was soap, shampoo, talc, deodorant or something else.

WanderingTrolley1 · 29/08/2014 12:26

Every day, yes. Sometimes twice.

Who's going to admit to not showering?!

KoalaDownUnder · 29/08/2014 12:29

I think what some of us are saying is, unless you're not washing at all, showering is almost as quick (and more effective) than 'face and bits'. (Bahahaha at 'undercarriage', BTW Grin)

If I'm not washing my hair, I can be in and out of the shower in a couple of minutes, but the 'refreshing' effect it has is amazing. I don't see the point of sloshing around with a washcloth and basin instead.

Philoslothy · 29/08/2014 12:29

wandering lots of people on this thread!

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 12:32

Babywipes Koala!

Lweji · 29/08/2014 12:32

In the same way, clothes new on smell of washing powder and fabric softener.

I hope not. After being hung out to dry they don't smell of any particular thing.

And I also hope I don't smell too much of shower gel or shampoo (I don't use strong scented ones), as I prefer to smell of my lovely perfume/eau de cologne.

WanderingTrolley1 · 29/08/2014 12:34

Oh, Phil. I've yet to read the thread. Then again, maybe I don't want to...

MrsHathaway · 29/08/2014 12:40

I guess I move in fairly huggy circles so yes you often get a waft of shampoo etc.

You certainly can get gassed by someone's overenthusiastic application of perfume even without getting close enough to sniff them Grin although I think the phrase there is "nose deaf". I get twitchy when my baby has a cuddle with one of those people and comes back smelling of their perfume Angry

Anyway, my point is that someone has to be unusually smelly, or unusually close to you, before you notice what they smell of.

And can I ask what's the point of aerif you're using just water? Isn't that just a rinse? Rub off all the grime on to the towels? ::
sudden lightbulb re daily towel washing::

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 12:45

Well if I had been gardening or something and had grime on me then I would use soap to get it off, but that is pretty rare.
Generally I'd use a bit of coconut oil and that's about it.
Never noticed grime on my towels (other than from my grotty little boys who use them as if they were disposable).
You wouldn't be able to tell by smelling me if I'd showered that day, though.

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 12:46

Agreed on the perfume thing too! My DM wears the most god-aweful perfume and she drenches herself! She doesn't seem to pick up on the fact that I regularly buy her new, more subtle perfumes for birthdays etc.
I have to air out the guest bedroom when she leaves!

Sallyingforth · 29/08/2014 12:52

Is it patronising to feel sorry for people that society makes them feel they have to mess about with washing hair, unnecessarily shaving various parts of their body, putting crap cosmetics on their face and wearing the required jewellery?

I don't think so. I avoid most of those things except for special occasions, and feel genuinely sorry for those who feel obliged to do them all every day.

MrsHathaway · 29/08/2014 12:52

What's the point of washing then, if you're not getting cleaner? Confused

And those cleaning "bits" daily, unless you're wiping away period blood or semen or lube, what are you doing? I genuinely don't understand - DM recently revealed she washes down there daily but she didn't teach me to so I can't work it out. If you're using soap or something doesn't it irritate; if you don't then why bother?

Surfsup1 · 29/08/2014 12:54

Why do you feel you need soap to wash?

flipchart · 29/08/2014 12:54

Don't have breakfast as my hair is more important

This is frankly depressing.

I don't find that statement depressing at all! I can quite understand that. If your hair is messy it can affect your confidence all day.
Generally you can grab a yoghurt or apple at some point but once you have left the housr you can't fix your hair.

Lweji · 29/08/2014 12:56

Or wake up a bit earlier for breakfast.

KoalaDownUnder · 29/08/2014 13:04

And those cleaning "bits" daily, unless you're wiping away period blood or semen or lube, what are you doing?

Well, if we're going to get down to the nitty-gritty, on your undercarriage and pits, I would expect:

natural discharge (sorry, but you asked)
perspiration
dead skin cells
urine/faeces

Not much of any of the above, but just...you know. A little of each, and then you feel not-so-fresh?

Mintyy · 29/08/2014 13:13

I never eat breakfast and I don't do my hair every morning! I do wash it every two or three days, and shower (with soap, for at least 10 minutes, shock) every day.

People use soap or shower gel to remove sweat, old dead skin cells, and traces of urine and traces of poo from their bodies, Surfsup. Hth.

You appear not to be concerned about personal hygiene, whereas the vast majority of people are, thank goodness.

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 29/08/2014 13:32

Back in the days when I had permed hair and didn't have to wash it daily, I used to occasionally do a "bits- and pits-stop" at the handbasin instead, but I never felt as clean as I do after a shower, so I prefer to shower daily.

ThisIsNotTheRealMe · 29/08/2014 13:42

Why does a shower take 10 mins when you aren't washing your hair? Confused That's prob as long as it takes me if I am washing my hair and I have a lot of hair! If I'm not washing it, I can shower in about 2-3 mins.
