To think an 11 year sentence for Rosdeep Adekoya is perfectly appropriate

despite what the tabloids will say?

May was given a new identity, as were the others. But she has refused to take it and lives as May West, daughter of 'those' Wests and refuses to let them define her.

Ah. Strong woman.

she is despicable.

Of course, but I doubt she'll kill herself. If pushed, I'd guess she's a narcissist. Another excellent reason to ignore her and focus on the needs of the children.

JustAboveTheDogPan · 25/08/2014 14:30

I think urging someone to kill themselves is beyond TG?

Nomama · 25/08/2014 14:31

Ooh! dolphin... if the psych reports are true she may well attempt to - again!

She is not necessarily despicable, she is ill. Her actions were utterly despicable. But as mental health issues can be utterly uncontrollable it is not inconceivable that the judge, who has all the evidence, has made the correct decision.

Groovee · 25/08/2014 14:32

Custody

I'm hoping they would keep the siblings together and start with a build up to contact.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:32

I'm not sure dolphin was 'urging', Just

JustAboveTheDogPan · 25/08/2014 14:34

encouraging/challenging/recommending anyone to commit suicide? Still beyond TG, I'd have thought.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:36

Oh I read it as a turn of phrase. A kind of 'any decent person...' or 'if that was me' Hmm

OP posts:
ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:37

I sort of girded myself for forthrightness and worse I suppose Just but you might have a point.

Not long enough. Not even by half.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/08/2014 14:40

I personally don't think 11 years is enough.

Nomama where did you get the information that the West children were re-located? Until very recently, I know for a fact that at least 3 of them were still living in Gloucestershire!

dolphinsandwhales · 25/08/2014 14:43

I wasn't urging suicide. I am horrified by the suffering of that poor child at the hands of his mother. The fact it was over a prolonged period and she hid his body, lied to police etc suggests she's positively evil, not mentally ill.

Backtobedlam · 25/08/2014 14:47

Thinking of the other children I think she should have got a much longer sentence. They will only be young teens on her release, what if she attempts to contact them? Or they are walking around wondering if anyone they bump into with similarities could be their mother? At least with a longer sentence they would be spared dealing with that until they were young adults.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 25/08/2014 14:48

We have deleted in in any case, as it was rather beyond the pale even if not beyond the precise guidelines. Not to worry, though, as you were, sorry for interrupting. Smile

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/08/2014 14:48

Would a grandfather who had never met the child even be considered for residency? Shock

nocoolnamesleft · 25/08/2014 14:51

Well...compared to a non-related stranger fostering/adopting, maybe.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:51

I think it will be more controlled than that bedlam

A grandfather with a 2 and half year old of his own who is not talking to his son/her father Lonny. It's a soap opera! Poor child.

OP posts:
ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:53

She knows her maternal relatives, persumably nocool

expatinscotland · 25/08/2014 14:54

This case made me sob so hard I was sick.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/08/2014 14:55

Well exactly. Poor wee thing. Sad

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 25/08/2014 14:55

It is no where near long enough

Stratter5 · 25/08/2014 14:58

Me too expat, not much really gets to me but this did. It haunted me.

Life should mean life.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 14:59

I've just had to remind myself this is public so I'm going to resist further detailled discussion re the DC and just wish the four of them the best Smile

OP posts:
Greythorne · 25/08/2014 15:04

The point is she will serve half the sentence, could be released and go on to have more children. I think that's shocking for many people.

Nomama · 25/08/2014 15:10

Fairy At that time Mae (with apologies for the previous misspelling) did not. She was very public about it, on the news etc. A very strong woman She and Stephen wrote a book, he got into trouble a bit. I have not met any of them (used to have a nodding acquaintance with Mae) for about 10 years.

There was another sister too, still here, she was married at the time. Maybe her surname gave her some protection from public disapproval. Though I do know that Mae always had people around her who were careful of and for her (SIL2 used to work with her).

It was the younger 5 who were removed, in care, 3 have since come back, may or may not have kept the new names. It is the youngest 2 who are still elsewhere and using other names, as far as I know.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2014 15:13

Beating a child because he had been sick. Three days. Sat there three days whilst he died. Threw him out like rubbish.

SS returned these children to her. She wanted to give those twins up for adoption and her family talked her out of it.

Now there is now bringing this little boy back.
