"If I Ran The Zoo"

It's sooooo long and it's such a tongue twister.

DS is 2.5 and I often get nice selections like Owl Babies or Oh No George.

But I got unlucky tonight and got 4670 pages of Dr. Zeuss' finest.

I like the story well enough, it's just a bloody epic to read :)

War and peace

Satanic verses

And snail and the whale

Grin

Ha :) DMil got DS the Whale and The Snail for Christmas

DS loves it.......

And the Whale and the Snail told their meandering tale,
That lasted for page, after page after page
Whilst the mummys turned pale and let out some wails .........

Jazzy and the Jungle, not particularly long but just hate it for some reason or Little Tiger Get Well Soon, bought it remembering it as a lovely story from when I was a child, 30 minutes later...

CaulkheadUpNorth · 23/08/2014 20:53

The mr men stories - too long.

Favourite here is Pirate School. Great illustrations but about three pages too long.

EvilHerbivore · 23/08/2014 20:53

Flat Stanley is the one I hate reading - 300-odd pages or so it feels like of just repetitive boring story

LEMmingaround · 23/08/2014 20:54

Thomas the bastard tank engine - thank god dd mived on to harry potter. There is a reason the narrator on the tv sounds so bored

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2014 20:54

Millions of Cats

catgirl1976 · 23/08/2014 20:54

Yeah he love the bloody Mr. Men too

I actually quite like those, but DS has picked up some very old fashioned language from them (he's got the ones I had when I was little - don't know if they've changed now)

He sometimes comes out with some very amusing little phrases from them and sounds like a little old man Grin

Oh yes Thomas the Tank Engine is awful, although not a problem in this house anymore as it mysteriously disappeared...

TheCowThatLaughs · 23/08/2014 20:59

Lego character encyclopaedia

clary · 23/08/2014 20:59

I love the snail and the whale (my DC sadly too old now).

I used to dread Thomas stories and also Fireman sam is a bit long-winded.

I love You Choose but sometimes it would go on and on ("Mummy how many pets can I pick? Can I pick five? Please??")

foslady · 23/08/2014 21:00

Another vote for Mr Men/Little Misses.....hated them with a passion!

picnicbasketcase · 23/08/2014 21:01

Hop on Pop and Fox in Socks are both pretty awful to read aloud.

catgirl1976 · 23/08/2014 21:01

TheCow

That sounds unspeakably dreary and long

The poo bus Grin

Smilesandpiles · 23/08/2014 21:03

Harry Fecking Potter.

I begged and begged for shorter stories for me to read but no, he wanted Harry bleedin Potter.

For years my poor son believed Harry just grew up and moved away because he had enough halfway through the first book. Grin

The look on his face when he read the book himself and saw the movies is one I will never forget. He told me off, quite rightly.

DP (at the time) pissed himself

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 23/08/2014 21:03

Clary those are banned at bed time :)

I hate with a passion - Going on a Bear Hunt and the Dr Seuss books. Anything I really hate goes missing Grin

theDudesmummy · 23/08/2014 21:03

I do love the snail and the whale.
Owl babies is fine because it is nice and short.
The cat in the bloody hat is far too long.

Smilesandpiles · 23/08/2014 21:05

Thankfuul that phase didn't last long and he wass back to a plane book and Lego.

Karoleann · 23/08/2014 21:06

I love snail and whale too, I find the prose really emotive.

Any story I really can't stand reading gets taken to the charity shop. I particularly don't like very modern versions of girly fairy stories, I find the originals better.

clary · 23/08/2014 21:06

Oh yes Fox in Socks, a friend used to skip straight to "Let's have a talk about tweetle beetles"

Sad now because I don't read to anyone any more Sad please treasure it even if it is Bear Hunt (which I rather like too)

ElBandito · 23/08/2014 21:07

The worst is "a made up story". I'm knackered and have no imagination

1sneezecakesmum · 23/08/2014 21:10

I love reading the snail and the whale....get a bit choked when it says 'save the whale' Blush

Room on the broom is lovely but I can recite every word often do in my sleep

Just bought the new Julia Donaldson, the scarecrows wedding! Looks lovely Smile

It's the Mr Men books that do my head in Sad

CheapBread · 23/08/2014 21:12

I cannot stand Dr Seuss books. The words annoy me and I find the illustration visually repulsive, urgh.

Chicken Licken leaves me with an achey tongue and gasping for a drink.

Anthony Browne books are nice - not many lines, loads to look at.

Moreisnnogedag · 23/08/2014 21:13

Meg and fricking mogul. DH even bought a three story compendium which is only brought out as a special treat. If we do story time together he pulls faces that I don't do the voices the same as his dm.

Mil only bought them for DS in revenge as she had to read them again and again to DH. Except now I read them again and again. And do the voices wrong on purpose.
