"If I Ran The Zoo"

It's sooooo long and it's such a tongue twister.

DS is 2.5 and I often get nice selections like Owl Babies or Oh No George.

But I got unlucky tonight and got 4670 pages of Dr. Zeuss' finest.

I like the story well enough, it's just a bloody epic to read :)

The books that I don't like always get lost in this house. Wink

Am I evil?

chubbyhez · 24/08/2014 08:31

Punk they have their own show now!

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/08/2014 08:31

The Jolly Postman! Don't know why but I just sigh inside when it's chosen!

PloddingDaily · 24/08/2014 08:35

Peppa Bloody Pig!!!
"one day, something utterly inane & trivial happened. Miss Rabbit was involved. The end"
aaaaaaaargh!!!! It's all so STUPID!!

DS was into the TinTin comics for a while...now there is an interesting selection of vocabularly to get your tongue around...blistering barnacles!! Smile

MarshaBrady · 24/08/2014 08:44

Mr Chatterbox

treadheavily · 24/08/2014 08:59

YY to Mr Men, Thomas stories and Charlie and Lola. Intensely irritating.
And have you ever tried reading Milly Molly Mandy? I loved it as a child but as a parent I had to hide it, couldn't bear reading it. Utterly tedious.

Love Julia Donaldson, Margaret Mahy and Lucy Cousins.

parallax80 · 24/08/2014 09:07

Oh I love the Snail & the whale.

Can't stand Guess How Much I jeffing Love You. And Monkey Puzzle makes my teeth itch. Grrr.

trixymalixy · 24/08/2014 09:14

I can't stand reading We're all going on a bear hunt. It baffles me that it's so popular.

The worst though is being asked to read from DS's star wars annuals. So dull and I am actually a star wars fan!

MegBusset · 24/08/2014 09:21

Charlie and Lola - the one with the flipping library book. Lola is at her most brattish and the story is repetitive and utterly charmless.

The Highway Rat - a great book but seems to take forever to read.

pictish · 24/08/2014 09:23

Agree about Bear Hunt - tis bollux.

Annietheacrobat · 24/08/2014 09:25

Was going to say the princess and the wizard too. Can't stand it. Now you can guess my favourite

PunkrockerGirl · 24/08/2014 09:31

chubbyhez Topsy and Tim have their own show?! What fresh hell is this? Shock Grin

LondonKitty · 24/08/2014 09:37

I'm fine with Mr Men and Charlie and Lola, and we are big fans on Julia Donaldson in our house (including the snail and the whale).

But I get totally freaked out by the tiger who came to tea. That tiger is evil and I find the story hugely sinister. He forced them to hand over all the food and water in the house AND THE UTTERLY USELESS MOTHER AND HER SYCOPHANTIC DAUGHTER WENT OUT AND BOUGHT HIM MORE!!!

My only soft spot was for the poor father who came home to save the day, even though they had given away his dinner.

(Not that I over analyse bed time stories or anything... Smile).

Onlygirlinmyhouse1 · 24/08/2014 09:38

Love most of Julia Donaldson's books in this house but I dread tabby mctat as that is a tongue twister for me! DS got the scarecrows wedding and I was a bit Hmm at the smoking scarecrow! That's not my... Is a favourite choice at times for dS, bonus is it doesn't take long.

LittleBearPad · 24/08/2014 09:39

Is the oldest boy in bear hunt the dad or the eldest brother. Either way his baby sitting skills aren't up to much.

Tanith · 24/08/2014 09:39

I remember my mother confessing that she repeatedly hid my favourite storybook "Ned the Lonely Donkey" because it was so long and she hated reading it.

I always found it for her, though Smile

pictish · 24/08/2014 09:41

I love the tiger who cam to tea, as I think it flows well. But I agree - he is one fucker of a tiger!

chubbyhez · 24/08/2014 09:46

I love ned the lonely donkey!

I have a theory about the tiger that came to tea. It is quite radical so brace yourself. There is no tiger. Sophie and her mum couldn't be bothered doing anything that day. No cooking, no baths, no shopping... so she comes up with this elaborate story. Dad rolls his eyes and thinks 'here we go again' and goes along with it.

Tanith · 24/08/2014 09:47

But the Tiger is so polite! He remembers his manners, says please and thank you...
DS always had a grin and a gleam in his eye when poor Sophie couldn't have a bath Grin

MarshaBrady · 24/08/2014 09:52

I like it too. Nicely paced. Less is more.

drspouse · 24/08/2014 10:08

The mum in TheTiger didn't get any food in, so she drank the beer and blamed the tiger.
Or, she has a domestic crisis and Daddy gets the credit.

If anyone has Doing the sodding Washing it is DS favourite for sitting on the potty. Judging by the decor Mum has a PhD in Medieval History, but is reduced to hanging up the washing on rickety drying racks that squash everything together so it doesn't dry. DS did point out that the dog was trying to eat the washing powder too.

Tanith · 24/08/2014 10:47

Oh Lord - Daddy's beer! Grin

"What's beer, Mummy?"

"A very grown up drink that only grown ups are allowed to touch that will rot your insides, ruin your liver, and you will die if you touch it before your 30th birthday!!!"

BoneyBackJefferson · 24/08/2014 12:22

Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie

theDudesmummy · 24/08/2014 13:48

We had one called Nothing like a Puffin when we went on holiday last year. DS (4) liked it, but DD (19) absolutely hated it and having to read it. It mysteriously ended up in the sea and all the pages fell out....

theDudesmummy · 24/08/2014 13:51

I said I liked Owl Babies but actually, I find it quite hard going emotionally: It is heart wrenching where Percy considers the possibility of the mummy having been eaten by a fox. I find that rather difficult...what if she had?
