To think some people are overreacting about the new mobile site?

I appreciate it is not perfect but I think some posters are being a tad over zealous in their criticism. Someone, probably some people, spent a lot of time working on the layout, and whilst I am sure they appreciate some of the feedback, it can't be pleasant to have tons of posters writing about how awful it is/ how much they hate it/ how they think it's ruined MN for them because they simply HAVE to be able to customise their view in a particular way.

It's a different website layout that doesn't work as well for you - in the big scale of things, how serious a problem can that be?

Yes you're right Soulsister, I am clearly having a nervous breakdown Hmm

Wobbly I don't mind at all Smile I think I have said in almost all of my posts, feedback is fine. My point is that there is feedback, and then there is unnecessarily ripping apart someone's work. Surely you can get your point across by taking the 'nice try but x y and z aren't working' approach, rather than 'this is hideous, I hate, hate hate it and I won't be using MN anymore unless it does back to how it was'. Again, it's a free website.

I hate it. I'm using desktop on my mobile now, even though it's harder to read. I really don't like the advert that won't go and the lack of space to read stuff. :(

Pipbin · 21/08/2014 00:01

I have only just turned on the phone and found it looking like this.
I agree op that someone has spent ages making this and people are getting upset.
No one likes change, and people will get upset if there I'd change without warning.
My biggest beef is that my own and the op posts aren't highlighted any more.

MysteriousCircusZebra · 21/08/2014 00:01

It might be a free website, but MNHQ still need to make money from it. Hence the need for people to use it. If the majority of people don't like the new style and start to drift off elsewhere, then its not going to be financially successful anymore is it.

freedom2post · 21/08/2014 00:08

No one is over reacting. Or being hysterical.

Merely saying what a pile of crap this new design is.

If someone did work hard on it then they should be sacked as they are clearly crap at their job.

Find a Tech MN. One that knows the difference between 'improvement' and 'destruction'.

isshoes · 21/08/2014 00:08

Zebra that's neither here nor there really. Yes MN may lose money from advertising etc if it started to lose popularity. Doesn't change the fact that there are polite and impolite ways to give feedback.

How would you feel if you spent a few weeks on a big project, then as soon as it was launched you received hundred of outcries of 'this is absolutely terrible' and 'I hate hate hate it'. Honestly?

Personally I would be upset. But far less so if the feedback were more along the lines of 'I preferred the older version and really miss the X feature'. That is, in my view, a reasonable way to give feedback.

Grin freedom. If I am correct to assume your post was ironic, it was very good.

As I posted on the thread in Site Stuff, I won't be using it as it triggers epilepsy auras. I was on for less than 5 minutes each time, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one that it'll affect that way - far too much glare and flickery ads.

Cherrypi · 21/08/2014 00:11

I really like it. The new design has solved the only problem I had which was fast scrolling down and up. I'm on Android. I think it's great that so many people are passionate about this site to care so much.

isshoes · 21/08/2014 00:13

On one hand I agree with you Cherry that it's testament to MN that its posters care so much about the site that they get really wound up if it doesn't work for them.

But then on the other hand I think it's quite worrying, and can often get really out of hand.

And I think that whilst this isn't by any stretch the worst example of the latter, it's still pretty full-on.

OP posts:
ElephantsNeverForgive · 21/08/2014 00:15

Much less annoying on my kindle fire than my iphone, because the fire browser bar doesn't bounce on and off as you scroll.

Time will tell if it works well. Kindle can have attitude at the best of times.

MysteriousCircusZebra · 21/08/2014 00:15

Grin. Well, seeing as I'm not 12, I wouldn't be crying into my cornflakes about it. I'd get it sorted, apologize, and make that I was around next time new changes were launched to iron out any issues. Rather than launching it and then disappearing until the following morning. Wink

isshoes · 21/08/2014 00:21

Oh yeah I forgot. Only 12 year kids take pride in their work Hmm

I expect the tech people are at home living their lives. How selfish of them.

MysteriousCircusZebra · 21/08/2014 00:30

Don't be silly. If you were going to launch a massive piece of work that you had worked really really hard on for weeks, then you'd time it so you knew someone was going to be there for a while, to make sure it worked ok. Wouldn't you??? That is where the problem lies.

WannabeMrsJoshHomme · 21/08/2014 00:31

nothing better to worry about maybe...?

BreadForBrains · 21/08/2014 00:35

YABU.
In fact, in typing just those 4 letters, I have 1) randomly lost my keyboard 25 times
2) tried to buy flights to Australia (via an ad
at the top of the page)
3) tried to buy data roaming for just £3 a day no less than 5 times (also thanks to an add, this time at the bottom of the page).

Problems 2 and 3 are down to problem 1. I am lead to the conclusion that MN are aiming to get people to pay to go ad free in the VERY near future.

Oh, it's now 8 times of the bottom data roaming ad being clicked on.

I don't like it. I want HQ to know.

isshoes · 21/08/2014 00:36

Don't be silly?

It's half past midnight. I hope most of the MN team is having a good night's rest.

I'm about to.

OP posts:
isshoes · 21/08/2014 00:38

Bread - it may be time for a new phone. I haven't experienced that once.

The problems haven't just started at half past midnight though have they. They've been going on for hours. Since they launched the new site and then went home in fact. You're deliberately missing the point. Probably because you don't have much of one yourself. Enjoy your sleep. Night Smile

BreadForBrains · 21/08/2014 00:45

isshoes, I've just upgraded and had my phone for 12 days Confused

BreadForBrains · 21/08/2014 00:45

How new do I need to go? Grin

Pipbin · 21/08/2014 00:54

Some of the problem, like a vanishing keyboard, are down to your phone, not the website design.

Snapespotions · 21/08/2014 00:55

I'm really struggling with the new site tbh. It's just too much hassle to navigate, and if certain issues aren't sorted out, I probably will leave MN tbh. I'm not saying that to make a point, merely stating how I feel.

In the meantime, could anyone tell me how to switch from the new mobile site to the desktop site please. There used to be a little button at the bottom of the screen but I can't find it now.
