To block this car in...

I'm at my mum's. she lives on a a fairly narrow hill, you can park on the road but it's best if you park half on the pavement. I'm going camping for the weekend with friends who are coming to pick me up in an hour. I've just popped to the shops for supplies of crisps and wine and some cheeky bugger has parked on my mum's drive.

I've text all my family and no one has any knowledge of this car. Would I be a total arse to just reverse onto the drive right upto their bumper and leave my car there for the weekend? I really don't want to leave my car half on the pavement for a whole weekend. A few of the NDNs have double buggies and there won't be enough room for them to pass. I also don't want to leave my shiny lovely car under the tree on the road cos it will be covered in bird poo and tree sap when I get back.

Mum is also away this weekend too so I can't even leave the keys. Grrrrrr.

I'd block it in. Do you know any of the neighbours well enough too leave a spare key with them just in case it's legit?

Otherwise that is one cheeky fucker right there.

Misssss · 15/08/2014 13:30

Don't want the police to laugh at me if I call 101 or tell me off for wasting time. My best mate is a copper so I've text him for advice.

Denny - if the twat scratches my PNC I'll cry, then get very very very mad. There's not enough room for him to get out unless he goes over the flowerbed but i suspect the car is too big.

I'm amazed at the number of placemarkers on this thread. It's not one of you lot is it, trying to stir up some drama on this street. I suspect there are a lot of MNetters here, by the amount of MN scarves and haircuts. Plus they flog pombears in the corner shop...

I'm going out, I need food. I'm leaving the car on the driveway with no note for now... I really want to give this person a piece of my mind.

If you leave keys with a friend make sure you specify to the friend that they, not random parking stranger, use the keys to move your car.

SavoyCabbage · 15/08/2014 13:34

It's clear to me that one of us needs to hide in your mums house whilst you are away to observe.

Fairenuff · 15/08/2014 13:37

OP I'm a little confused. Have you actually got definite confirmation from your mum that she hasn't ever given anyone permission to park there when she is away?

You originally said I've text all my family and no one has any knowledge of this car.

And later you said about your mum I'll give her another call and double check though.

Surely this is the one person that you need to clarify this with. Have you done that yet?

< easily Confused>

I so want to know what happens here! My old house had a driveway cough parking space at the back and when my neighbour was doing building work at his house I would frequently come home to find his or one of his mate's cars parked in it!

One day I sat in the street, which was only wide enough for one car, leaning on the horn till he came out. He was a complete div. Wouldn't have minded if he'd asked as I wouldn't have had an issue so long as it was moved when I got home.

I also had a van parked in it who was visiting he house opposite mine. So I rang the number on the side and told him if he didn't move it in five minutes his tyres would be flat. He came out pretty quick.

The nerve of some people is unbelievable.

QuickieNameChang · 15/08/2014 13:38

Do you not have to go camping?

rollonthesummer · 15/08/2014 13:40

I agree-have you rung your mum?

No matter how cross I was, there's no way I'd go away for the weekend blocking someone else's car with my brand new 'haven't eaten in it' car-I'd be too scared it would get damaged!!

ButchCassidy · 15/08/2014 13:41

I love a good parking thread Smile my last favourite was the woman who parked on someone's drive and turned up with her husband to apologise and get the car back the next dayGrin

ohmymimi · 15/08/2014 13:42

Totally of point, OP - and anyone else - but there are MN scarves and haircuts, really? How have I missed this? What is an MN haircut? Do the scarves have a logo? Confused

HangingBasketCase · 15/08/2014 13:43

I'm beyond stunned that anyone could have the audacity to park on some else's drive! How bloody cheeky, rude and entitled can you be?!

Please block it in, and I'd also be inclined to leave a strongly worded note under the wiper telling them not to do it again.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 15/08/2014 13:43

I am also marking my place. There is something about parking threads. I don't even have a car but I am captivated.

comingintomyown · 15/08/2014 13:43

There has to be an explanation surely ? Who the hell would dare park on a strangers drive and disappear off ?

Jengnr · 15/08/2014 13:45

Block it in! Block it in!

PlacidApricots · 15/08/2014 13:46

I am so marking my place for the outcome!! Cheeky feckers parking on some random persons drive!!

diddl · 15/08/2014 13:47

It sounds as if it could be your mum.

Unless it's a regular occurance, quite a coincidence that it has happened whilst your mum is away.

UselessNess · 15/08/2014 13:52

I love this type of thread.

wineoclocktimeye · 15/08/2014 13:53

That's what I was thinking comingintomyown

Eva50 · 15/08/2014 13:56

Block it in and leave the key with your sister.

doineedhelp · 15/08/2014 13:57

block the fucker in and make sure you rip a strip off them when they come to leave...
I've had this a few times with a parking space at the side of my house (on my property) people seem to think its either fine to park on it or block access to it, drives me insane and i properly go mad at them. On 3 occaisons however i have been told that i am being unreasonable and aggressive and what is the problem as they were only there for half an hour - can you believe the cheek!!! Angry

ignominious · 15/08/2014 14:00

Pls block in.

Fudgeface123 · 15/08/2014 14:00

Surely OP would know her own mum's car?

tryingtocatchthewind · 15/08/2014 14:01

I can't believe anyone would park on someones drive. You might as well bring your deckchairs and sit on my lawn for your lunch as well!

StarSwirl92 · 15/08/2014 14:01

Block it in!

newnameforanewstart · 15/08/2014 14:04

Can´t believe the rudeness of people like that.

Just one thing springs to mind, it couldn´t be someone visiting eg. carer or similar? Mark you then one of the ndn should have an idea.
