To block this car in...

I'm at my mum's. she lives on a a fairly narrow hill, you can park on the road but it's best if you park half on the pavement. I'm going camping for the weekend with friends who are coming to pick me up in an hour. I've just popped to the shops for supplies of crisps and wine and some cheeky bugger has parked on my mum's drive.

I've text all my family and no one has any knowledge of this car. Would I be a total arse to just reverse onto the drive right upto their bumper and leave my car there for the weekend? I really don't want to leave my car half on the pavement for a whole weekend. A few of the NDNs have double buggies and there won't be enough room for them to pass. I also don't want to leave my shiny lovely car under the tree on the road cos it will be covered in bird poo and tree sap when I get back.

Mum is also away this weekend too so I can't even leave the keys. Grrrrrr.

I would absolutely block them in without a doubt. Their thought process clearly included the words "fuck 'em", and so should yours Grin

You could always park in front of them then they'll have to come see you to get their car out if they come back before you go?

Is there a train station or any other public transport near you that they may have used and parked on your parents drive to avoid paying ?

Love a drive parking thread!

Phone the non Emergancy policy - they might be able to ring the owner for you. Long story but I accidentally blocked someone in once and the police know the address of the car, and they had my DPs phone number from when her reported a theft and he'd given my address, so the police rang him to contact me. So it is possible.

Op don't risk having your car towed same rules do apply in england as Scotland. Blocking the car in is an offence.

SirChenjin, mum does have a fancy man, but he lives a bit of a way away, and she's gone to see him this weekend. I'll give her another call and double check though.

There is a local train station about half a mile away, however, there is parking down there and it's a small town so parking is fairly cheap in the centre.

I'm going to call 101...

I think leaving a note is generous... but please do it solely for the purpose of updating us from your camping trip Grin

Love it - I reckon there will be a perfectly good explanation though, surely no-one would just randomly park on someones drive?!

I would block it in. No hesitation.

If you park behind them, I'd there enough space that they might attempt squeezing past you, they might scratch PNC!Shock

It has to be a mistake surely, who would park on a strangers drive like that? And clear off for the whole day? It's so weird.

This reminds me of an overheard conversation I heard between two men on the train many years back (sorry for a bit of a hijack!).

One of the men said how he'd drive to the station and park in the car park each day before commuting to work but one day he felt quite ill so got off after a few stops and journeyed back. Upon getting to his driveway he saw a strangers car on it. He asked neighbours who told him it was a young man who when they asked him what he was doing, said that he had permission to park on the driveway.

Still feeling a bit ill next day the homeowner took the day off work, parked his car in a nearby street and sneaked back to his house and lay in wait. Sure enough, a young lad eventually pulled up and parked on his driveway at which point the homeowner leapt out of his house and unleashed verbal hell.

Sorry again for hijacking!

OP does your mum know you'll be parking on her drive all weekend? If so I doubt she'd have given anyone else permission to park there too when she already knows your sister will be around as well.

Or have you not asked your mum and she's making a point to you? Wink

I'd phone 101 to establish it isn't a stolen car that has been abandoned.

Then I'd block it in and go away for the weekend, I wouldn't even leave the keys. If someone is stupid enough to park on a stranger's drive then they'll just have to deal with the consequences.

WestEnd - haha no she's a pain but she wouldn't do that. I've been here all week, I'm having a little holiday at the mothership! My sister comes and goes all the time and the drive is technically her space - however she's not enough of a twat to try and "learn" me by doing this. She's seething about it too. I hope she's here when alien car cunt arrives then he will get it in the neck from both of us. I'm sat here googling (is that a word) parking meters and bollards. Meanwhile I'm getting more and more pissed off.

Woobedoo, that is amazing, how dare people do that It's worrying that someone watched that man's movements too.

Personally I'd wait to hear from your mum before blocking in.

It would be pretty embarrassing if she had given permission to someone.

However leaving a note any keys seems a good compromise. If they have permission then no harm done. If they don't it will be bloody embarrassing for them to call you and get the car moved.

I had this at on my drive once. Turns outt it was an old day who didnt see the problem in parking there as she went to the hospital down the next road. I think to she got the message as its not been tried again...
