To block this car in...

I'm at my mum's. she lives on a a fairly narrow hill, you can park on the road but it's best if you park half on the pavement. I'm going camping for the weekend with friends who are coming to pick me up in an hour. I've just popped to the shops for supplies of crisps and wine and some cheeky bugger has parked on my mum's drive.

I've text all my family and no one has any knowledge of this car. Would I be a total arse to just reverse onto the drive right upto their bumper and leave my car there for the weekend? I really don't want to leave my car half on the pavement for a whole weekend. A few of the NDNs have double buggies and there won't be enough room for them to pass. I also don't want to leave my shiny lovely car under the tree on the road cos it will be covered in bird poo and tree sap when I get back.

Mum is also away this weekend too so I can't even leave the keys. Grrrrrr.

Police will not tow the vehicle as it is trespass which is a civil offence not criminal however if you block the vehicle in you do risk being towed as an obstruction. You need to find somewhere else to park sorry.

piratecat · 15/08/2014 11:42

place parking

aprilanne · 15/08/2014 11:43

believe this or not it is perfectly legal to park in someones drive .in scotland anyway .if you block them in the police will remove your car to let there out .the only reason i know this is because my uncle a policeman and i mind of him telling my mum.you get a parking ticket for parking on pavement in a resedential area .up here anyway .

SaucyJack · 15/08/2014 11:43

Do it for me- it'd make my day. Consider it your good deed for the week.

WooWooOwl · 15/08/2014 11:43

Really?

That's fucking useless, the police should be there to help with stuff like that!

PenisesAreNotPink · 15/08/2014 11:43

I'd be very concerned that it was a neighbour who'd left it there.

I couldn't block someone in and go on holiday as I'd be thinking about it every day.

They are tossers though if they've just left and gone shopping

eatscakefornoreasonwhatsoever · 15/08/2014 11:45

Rats. No conclusion yet. Have you got hold of a ndn yet op?

Misssss · 15/08/2014 11:46

Thanks for all your suggestions and comments. I've just been and knocked on all the neighbours doors (well five up and down on each side of the road (there's no reason for anyone further up to park here because the road widens out a little plus they all have massive drives.) None of the neighbours has any idea who it belongs to. I did wonder if a neighbour has parked on the drive to deter burglars but my sister lives here, so her car normally goes on the drive. She's a nurse and is doing nights all weekend so I don't want her to be disturbed. I really don't want to leave the keys with one of the neighbours (long story but I don't trust them. I've only had this car for a month and I'm still a little bit in love with it - I haven't even eaten in it yet!)

It's bizzare, its a residential area, no local shops or attractions, it's not like a town centre where people may just have a small excuse for doing this. I've looked through the car windows, nothing there that would identify someone. I thought if there was a car seat or something I'd deal with the bird poo and tree sap and pop my car under the tree. However as they probably don't have small children then I'm going to put my car on the drive.

I can't decide if to leave a note with my number... Or maybe a note with the local taxi number. FFS!!!

Wow April, is that true?! OMG, I don't want the police to move my PNC (precious new car) We're not in Scotland but I'm worried now!

You will get a ticket for parking on the pavement.

Block them in, leave key with neighbour. Otherwise, you won't be able to properly relax during your holiday.

TinyTear · 15/08/2014 11:50

Block them in, leave key in mum's house as your sister will be in -albeit working shifts...

GalaxyInMyPants · 15/08/2014 11:51

Mmmm, you might get a ticket for blocking a drive if the person complains to the police while you're away.

Bouttimeforwine · 15/08/2014 11:51

Has your sister got a new car? Her friends?

TeaAndALemonTart · 15/08/2014 11:53

Block it in, you'll not get a fine for parking on your mum's drive way.

Legoaddict · 15/08/2014 11:54

It might be your sisters? She could have borrowed it from a friend or something? I wouldn't block it until I had checked with her.

TeaAndALemonTart · 15/08/2014 11:55

Unless you're in Scotland apparently.

jacks365 · 15/08/2014 11:56

Ring 101 and ask them for definite if they can remove your vehicle as an obstruction, if they can't then park on the drive but I think they can even in England.

Boysclothes · 15/08/2014 11:59

I live for the day that someone parks on my drive. I will block that fucker in so fast!!

Do it do it do it do it and report back every twenty minutes or so.

Misssss · 15/08/2014 12:00

No it's no one's in the family, my sister is at her boyfriend's and she has no knowledge of it. Both brother's don't drive and mum wouldn't let just anyone park on the drive, she's obsessed with the plants that border it, I once reversed over a lavender on the way out and she didn't speak to me for a whole weekend!

Sod it, my friend's are due to get me in a few minutes, the car is staying on the drive. I'm going to put a note on the windscreen. I'll leave the key with my friend who lives a few streets away just incase.

Well, i'm in Scotland and the police do bugger all to move the bloody cars in our street, parked across driveways, half on the pavement, on corners, on the pavement on corners, on speed bumps and across dropped edges - all by parents too idle to walk with the children the few hundred yards most of them live from the school. An awful lot of drivers think that driving a car makes them entitled to do anything they want. (And i am a driver.)

Why not phone the police and say you think the car has been abandoned? Always worth a try.

prettybird · 15/08/2014 12:06

Remember to photo before and after as someone suggested. Include/make a note of their registration number.

ContentedLittleMummy · 15/08/2014 12:07

How exciting is this? Don't go away for the weekend ,just sit upstairs and look out of the window at them panic. They deserve it, selfish little fuckwits.

Boysclothes · 15/08/2014 12:08

Don't make it too easy for them!!

I'd just tell whoever lives in your house. And then they'll just have to hope someone's in when they knock.

Misssss · 15/08/2014 12:11

The good news is I've just had a text to delay the camping trip until later this afternoon as another friend wants to come along but doesn't finish work until four. Haha at Boysclothes. I used to think this too but now it's happening I'm all confused. Hopefully they will be back before I have to leave. The neighbours are all excited too - curtains are twitching. I'm known for having a fiery temper and they must be expecting a showdown.
