I haven't watched this in years.

Good lord. Has there ever been a better - or fitter - bit of casting than this?

Much as I love Richard Armitage in North and South...

Darcy's hair alone has me going weak at the knees though the wine may have something to do with that too

God yes, Timothy Dalton.I had SUCH a crush on him!

MarthasHarbour · 08/08/2014 22:03

Thurlow YY I know that look. Just after Lizzy dares to give her opinion.

My best friend and I used to talk to each other entirely in P&P speak. We would quote putdowns from Lady Catherine, the evil sisters, Mr Collins etc etc. She passed away 2 years ago and I will always miss our P&P bitch fests! Sad

On a happier note she will be thrilled I have this thread to indulge myself! Smile

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 08/08/2014 22:03

X post! When was it? I would have missed it - we only moved to the UK in 2003.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 08/08/2014 22:04

Awwww Marthas Flowers for your friend.

moggiek · 08/08/2014 22:04

The beautiful Jennifer Ehle! Why didn't she have a stellar career after P&P?

MarthasHarbour · 08/08/2014 22:05

X post with sputnik. Why would you do that to me!! Shock

Thurlow · 08/08/2014 22:06

Sputnik, that made me snort!

"No, he really DOESN'T need a towel..."

I also watched Emma under my mozzie net in deepest Africa.

and 3 whole series of Downton.

Mr Darcy!

My most favourite bit is when he invites her to dinner at pemberley to meet Chtistiana. Just when she realises he's not so bad after all.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 08/08/2014 22:07

2009! (thank you IMDB) well I know how I missed it, there was a lot of crap going on in my life - and not a lot of TV watching - in 2009. Will have to find it.

I like Emma just as much as P&P

Thurlow · 08/08/2014 22:07

AtYourCervix, I'm just hitting that bit now

Jonny Lee Miller was totally wrong, i agree, but Romola was sparkling and brilliant as Emma.

AtYourCervix · 08/08/2014 22:08

Oh lovely. Is she singing?

Floop · 08/08/2014 22:08

Maggie Smith's son at Mr Rochester is my fave piece of casting. Phworrrr.

AtYourCervix · 08/08/2014 22:08

I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

Thurlow · 08/08/2014 22:09

They've just turned up at Chatsworth. Trying to work out how much of this I can see before passing out asleep on the sofa tonight. DD will not let me watch it tomorrow and sadly, the Octonauts do not provide me with the same warm and fuzzy feeling.

I love the bit where Darcy and Bingley come round and all the girls are sitting in a row and Mrs Bennett starts winking at Kitty.

'Why do you keep winking at me, mama?'

MarthasHarbour · 08/08/2014 22:12

Thank you hearts Smile

QueenOfThorns · 08/08/2014 22:12

Jennifer Ehle played Catelyn Stark in the pilot for Game of Thrones, but was replaced for the series. Sad but Michelle Fairley was very good in that tole.

How could I forget Sharpe Shock

All the Rochesters are shit.
All the Heathcliffs are shit.

Firthy makes a great Darcy.
MacFadyen makes a watchable Darcy.
Laurence Olivier made a bizarre Darcy.

All the Captain Wentworths give me heart palpitations and fanny gallops.

Richard Armitage in North & South was a grumpy git who lived with his mother (and he has a very beaky nose). Avoid!

The End.

Thurlow · 08/08/2014 22:13

He's jumping in the lake, ladies. The wet shirt moment has arrived

I love the film of Persuasion. It's probably my favourite of all. Way better than Keira K's P&P.

I think I need to take a turn about the room. (It is most refreshing)

QueenOfThorns · 08/08/2014 22:16

Thurlow, if you're watching the CF version, they're at Lyme Hall, not Chatsworth!

I loved North and South, but every time anyone went for a walk they ended up on Calton Hill in Edinburgh, which threw me a little Grin

Thurlow · 08/08/2014 22:16

I'd forgotten he looks even better when he gets dressed after jumping in the lake, in a lovely coat and wet hair.

I love when he says 'dearest loveliest Elizabeth' and stares into her peepers in an intense and meaningful way.
