AIBU?

...to expect my SAHM iron my shirt.

We are having this discussion over breakfast and I have borrowed her tablet and mn name to pose this question.
She has a three year old at part time nursery and a five month old. I work full time in an office. I offered to iron my shirts but she does them. They are often creased, my opinion, but she feels they are good enough.

For instance one shirt had a creased line down the buttons and I had to wear a tie. I pointed this out.

Am I being unreasonable pointing out the creases?

My DH works full time in a long hours job.

I am a SAHM to our kids - also involves lots of work and long hours.

He irons shirts (his own and DS's)

I iron as little as possible the other things that need ironing... mostly my own stuff and the odd dress / top of DD's.

Works for us and neither of us has ever complained.

I work full time and DW is a SAHM. I do all the ironing for the family (most is mine).

But if she offers to do it, then she should do it properly. A shirt takes 2-3 mins to iron and presumably you don't get through more than 7 a week so it's a 20 min job at the most.

Burg, tell him if he doesn't stop calling you HIS SAHM and referring to 'your' children (when I assume that at least one of them, if not both, was fathered by him?) you will run a nice hot iron over some sensitive areas. Create-free gonads, anyone?

You can't expect your Mum to do everything when she has two small children to look after. Learn to iron yourself.

You 'borrowed' her tablet and 'borrowed' her MN name to post that 'your' SAHM doesn't iron your shirts properly?

Surely this is a wind up?

Are you for real, OP???

Out of interest though when people do iron is it always totally crease free? OH showed me the site on the label which I never knew about for starters.

It really is an art

This would piss me off actually. If DH offers to do something then doesn't do it properly I would point it out.

As would he!

So YANBU.

Her being a SAHM is irrelevant - you shouldn't have mentioned it tbh.

Shirts - crease free yes unless they're those bastard shirts. I have a water spray bottle thing to help.

life is too short to iron clothes

it's july now and I have had the iron out twice this year. And for the same summer cotton dress.

It's a domestic servitude conspiracy imo. ;)

Iron your own damned shirts. And her blouses. Do it every evening. It won't take long.

And you don't mention the gender of the DC's but whatever, teach them both to so it when they get to be old enough. The elder should do the younger one's until younger catches up .

Does anyone know about dots on shirt labels? I mean this is the level of ironing he's requiring! Is it only me who's never heard of that before? Am I an ironing ignoramus?

OP, buy 100% nylon shirts and hang them up yourself.

jacks365 · 22/07/2014 10:15

The dots on the labels just state the maximum iron temperature to use.

I just iron everything with the same heat. Don't bother looking at the dots Blush

I don't mind doing the ironing but I don't like that dh takes it for granted that it's just something that gets done.
This morning he asked where he'd find a clean work shirt, well, still in the laundry basket or on the floor by the bed if it wasn't intercepted by the laundry fairy. Grr.

My friend's dh leaves her a list of jobs to do while he's at work, she works (part time) and has 2 dc. He puts things like clean the windows, skirting boards, etc on it.
