to hate line drying my washing

PopcornFrenzy · 17/07/2014 08:30

my mother was here yesterday and my washing had just finished so I popped it all in my tumble.

She said I was being silly and not using the lovely weather, she used to line dry everything when I was a child.

I replied I do 1 load of washing a week and she can mind her own business.

I hate the feeling of line dryed towels and clothes next to my skin am I weird??

Yanbu, I don't like it either but I don't tell many people. Only my neighbours know how much line drying I do! Blush

JoeyMaynardsghost · 17/07/2014 08:34

Your decision :) but personally I love clothes that have been outside line dried and will attempt to line dry every time unless the weather is absolutely persisting down. However, on the odd occasion that I have had to tumble dry towels, they do come up much softer.

In this weather though, it's going out by 8 and it's dry not much later! Grin

YABVVVVVVVU! Line drying is the best!

(Actually you can do what you like, obvs. But your carbon footprint and elec bills must be on the large side.)

GingerRodgers · 17/07/2014 08:38

Oh god I LOVE line dried clothes! But each to their own. I'm just Envy you only have to do one load a week!

Staywithme · 17/07/2014 08:39

Thank goodness, like minded people. My electric bill is shocking and DH and I keep saying we should line dry stuff but I hate, hate, hate doing it. I bung everything in the drier, so much so that the running joke with the boys is, "if you buy a hoodie, make sure it's a size bigger than needed as it'll be smaller by the time it's dried!"

CitronVert · 17/07/2014 08:41

I love the smell of line dried clothes and am a big fan of crunchy towels.

indigo18 · 17/07/2014 08:41

Clothes and bedding smells lovely when dried on the line! Agree about towels tho, I tumble dry them.

PopcornFrenzy · 17/07/2014 08:41

It's one load a week, my tumble is on for 55 minutes once a week. I'm here with a 4 year old boy and me, we don't generate a lot of washing.

I line dry as much as I can, except towels and nappies, which get tumbled.
Once stuff is mostly dry, I might give it 30 mins in the tumble dryer just to finish it off because we have no airing cupboard and I hate putting stuff away if it feels even slightly damp (which it often does when it's cold).

But I think you are being very wasteful of resources to use a tumbledryer for everything straight out of the washer - I know it's YOUR electricity bill and YOU are paying for it but you're still using up resources.

Clawdy · 17/07/2014 08:42

Much prefer line-dried clothes - they smell fresher - especially bedding and towels.

jaynebxl · 17/07/2014 08:43

I love line drying and mys eco conscience won't let me tumble unless necessary but... I'm more shocked you manage to get away with 1 wash a week! I do a wash most days for 4 of us and towels and bedding.

murphys · 17/07/2014 08:46

Wow, one load a week. Please, I need your tips on reducing washing. Ours is beyond ridiculous.

But I do prefer washing dried outdoors. A non issue for me really being in hot country as a load dries quicker on line than in dryer, we only use it if it rains or emergency.

Thurlow · 17/07/2014 08:47

I prefer the smell and feel of line dried clothes. But sometimes I just can't be arsed to get the line out and put it up.

HerbRobert · 17/07/2014 08:49

I would reply but I'm just off outside to hang out my washing. When I get it in again (in about an hour, it's so hot already), it will smell of a summers day.

Only1scoop · 17/07/2014 08:50

One load a week? Blimey Don't you have whites? I hate using tumble dryer and don't use it in summer. Much rather peg it out.

With your mum on this one

ithoughtofitfirst · 17/07/2014 08:52

I've kind of made myself prefer line dried clothes because I'm too tight to use the tumble drier.

FunkyBoldRibena · 17/07/2014 08:53

I don't have a tumble dryer, a dishwasher, a microwave or an oven. I live for my line dried washing! All winter I scrutinise the weather forecasts in the hope that my one or two loads a week can get out there for a few hours without being drizzled on. That smell of the spring on the first proper dry day of the year on the bedsheets - blows my mind.

PopcornFrenzy · 17/07/2014 08:53

We both have house clothes we change into and check that clothes are dirty before putting them in the washing basket.

I'm a SAHM so wear my house clothes nearly all the time, we both shower everyday so clothes tend to stay cleaner for longer.

Obviously socks and pants get changed everyday.

tilliebob · 17/07/2014 08:57

Each to their own - but then I do 2 or 3 loads a day and can't afford to dry all that in the drier. Besides, a flapping line of washing being dried for free in the garden is one of the simple things that makes me happy. I love line dried clothes!

thismumismad · 17/07/2014 08:57

Not had a dryer since mine burned down half of my house on Christmas day! !!

Claybury · 17/07/2014 09:00

Best compromise is line dry until almost dry then tumble briefly. Keeps bills down and still gets them fluffy. And avoids need to iron.

murphys · 17/07/2014 09:00

Funky Grin

QweenCnut · 17/07/2014 09:02

Op, what are house clothes? And how do manage to get 14 pairs of pants and socks, towels, bedding, pyjamas etc into one load?

JoeyMaynardsghost · 17/07/2014 09:02

Claybury

I was with you until this And avoids need to iron

Confused
murphys · 17/07/2014 09:03

Popcorn what are house clothes? Is this something fancy like a lingerie outfit that all the stars wear Wink, or is it more like a pair of trakkie bottoms and a comfy top? Wink

you see this is what I think makes our washing even more - yet another change of clothes into something comfy when getting home
