to hate line drying my washing

my mother was here yesterday and my washing had just finished so I popped it all in my tumble.

She said I was being silly and not using the lovely weather, she used to line dry everything when I was a child.

I replied I do 1 load of washing a week and she can mind her own business.

I hate the feeling of line dryed towels and clothes next to my skin am I weird??

I'm still not getting the connection between tumble drying and lack of ironing. I never iron and I don't own a tumble dryer. Hang washing to dry carefully and it doesn't crease.
waterducksback - 5 mins to air after drying on the line in the - erm - air...What's that about?

I'm with you cardi!

Had a friend who swore by this. Would watch her take bone dry washing from the line and put in tumble dryer to air.

We agreed to disagree on the subject after many a discussion on the subject.

I no longer have a tumble dryer I have a room in my house full of those airers that are on the ceiling and washing lines in the garden.

It's because I'm tight about stuff like electricity

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/07/2014 10:40

We have a tumble drier in the shed as we have no room for airers since the DCs came along and the stuff used to take days to get dry in the house, but line drying is always first choice in spring/summer/autumn. Not in winter though, the garden is too sheltered/shady.

I don't find any difference between tumble dried and line dried when it comes to ironing, both get your clothes wearable but not pristine.

Thumbwitch · 20/07/2014 19:23

I find clothes are more creased when they come out of the tumble drier than when I've hung them on the airer/line to dry, so I don't "get" that lack-of-ironing reasoning either.

Some of you must only ever wear things for half an hour before changing, the amount of washing you do! It's quite amazing...

beautifullymixed absolutely pml at your friend

Beautifullymixed · 20/07/2014 19:43

ithought yes absolutely.
And the thing was she was as tight as anything and I couldn't for the life of me work out the logic, or why she would waste money.

At the time I was in cramped temporary council accommodation and she had a beautiful landscaped garden with a long clothes line. I could only dream of a clothes line like that......

ithoughtofitfirst · 20/07/2014 20:02

I get such bad clothes line envy (my bedding is currently down In the shared garden on airers)

I have friends who are a super hippy surfy homebirthy kind of family constantly down the beach or camping you get the picture. We had our babies at the same time 2 years ago so had a play date at her house and I'll never forget watching her stuff her bedding in the drier on an absolutely stunning summers day. She had a massive garden and clothes line too. I JUST DON'T GET IT!!

I have no strong feelings on the subject.
