Now I admit I'm not religious so I don't really get the argument of breaking church law, etc.

But I think its crazy that in this day and age a vicar can be refused a licence to practice by the local bishop because he's gay.

I thought Christians were meant to be tolerant, compassionate, etc.

Its even more crazy when he wouldn't be working directly for the diocese but for the local hospital.

Christians can make gert big lists. I will agree to differ.

headinhands · 21/07/2014 14:32

gert big lists?

You've never seen him do anything have you. You might have attributed some occurrence to him that someone else would attribute to chance etc. But you've not seen god do anything, not a sausage.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 14:37

I have seen many things. I am not a liar.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 14:38

You wouldnt believe a single one of them.

headinhands · 21/07/2014 14:47

gets it right every time

That's a straw man. I didn't claim the law was perfect. I was saying that an adult who is guilty of a crime is the only person who is morally responsible for paying their dues. And that the law get very upset when someone tries to take the rap for someone else's crime.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 14:48

I agree with your last post.

headinhands · 21/07/2014 14:49

There is no evidence of such occurrences. Without evidence, sadly, I have to assume you are mistaken. If I told you that Allah had performed lots of incredible miracles would you believe me without any proof? (Apparently he has Grin)

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 14:55

Not going back to the faith discussion either.
My job is to say things. It is not my job to make you believe.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 14:56

I think that others have that job. I dont.

headinhands · 21/07/2014 16:17

Gosh if I had evidence of a god who could do things and that if we believed he existed we would go to heaven and that god wanted us to love and save others then I would be falling over myself to show that evidence.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

1 Peter 3.15

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 17:15

I have given lots of people lots of answers.

Some dont believe. Not my problem.
It is theirs and God's. I dont take on burdens that are not mine to take on.

[I know that you know the bible as much as I do]

Up to you if you have already chosen to throw it away. Not my problem.
It is yours and possibly your future generations'.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 17:32

It doesnt mean that I dont care about you. It doesnt mean that I dont love you.
But some parts are not to do with me.

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 17:33

It doesnt mean that I dont pray for you [I do]

BackOnlyBriefly · 22/07/2014 11:57

My job is to say things. It is not my job to make you believe.

I think that others have that job.

Are you on a mission from God?

or possibly a mission from Glod.

settingsitting · 22/07/2014 11:59

Yes of course I am on a mission from God. All christians are.

headinhands · 22/07/2014 13:54

Setting, a while ago I realised there was no evidence or real reason for my belief in the biblical god, I often hear other Christians claim there is but that thy won't share it with me because I "won't open my mind/am angry with god/love sin too much/" and so on when really there's either evidence or there isn't.

MorphineDreams · 22/07/2014 13:57

Have any of you been on Ken Ham's page? The comments on there say it all.

settingsitting · 22/07/2014 14:40

There is no evidence.

But carry on seeking and God can find you.

MorphineDreams · 22/07/2014 14:43

Blah blah.

The thing I don't like about religion is, religious people try and act all nice and be good because they think they're going to get a reward at the end. Either that or a punishment if they've been bad.

Whereas Atheists are good people.. well just because. We don't have to be coerced or threatened into it.

(obviously not all religious people or atheists are 'good', just trying to make a point)

settingsitting · 22/07/2014 16:01

I see your point Morphine. And I do think that you have a point.

But there is a whole lot more that we have to do besides.
Regular worship - sometimes I dont always want to go!
Praying - sometimes I dont want to!
Looking after our neighbour as ourselves - ditto
Talking about God - definitely dont want to open my mouth sometimes!
Looking out for people - easier to look the other way
Being fair - rather not sometimes

So we often go above and beyond acting all nice. It is more of a lifestyle.
We can though just opt for an easy life. Become a christian and not much else. But I wouldnt feel right doing that. I feel a bit driven I think.

headinhands · 22/07/2014 19:32

I was seeking by asking you for the evidence you have

mumminio · 22/07/2014 19:38

Why should they let a gay person become a vicar?

settingsitting · 22/07/2014 19:48

You are not seeking by asking for evidence. You are sabotaging by asking for evidence.

headinhands · 22/07/2014 21:57

And that tells me everything I need to know.Grin Jesus didn't have a problem with people having evidence in the NT. It didn't seem to affect their free will doofa.

Icimoi · 22/07/2014 22:19

It doesnt mean that I dont pray for you [I do]

Please don't. It's utterly offensive to insist on praying for people who blatantly don't want you to pray for them.
