To be glad Judy Murray isn't my MIL?

I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

grimbletart · 25/06/2014 22:47

grimbletart · 25/06/2014 22:48

Oops - sorry about the link fail

noddyholder · 25/06/2014 22:49

Ridiculous

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 22:52

Lonny had me at the Scottish woman tennis coach and a unicorn. Bloody hilarious. Grin

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 22:53

Fuck it Judy if you are reading bloody do it. Why not.

rootypig · 25/06/2014 22:59

Ooh thanks for the recommend limited, I'll watch that now, just the ticket after a busy evening MNing Grin

I watched with my mum, DH (American, not a clue) and baby DD on hols last year and my roars of COME ON ANDY echoed very pleasingly around the resort Grin

wooldonor · 25/06/2014 22:59

Just seen on facebook that she's said she's not doing it (not saying this is a reliable source Smile)

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 25/06/2014 23:03

Sorry, no matter what anyone says, a child in the Uk is not gonna make professional without parental input/pushiness. Unless they go to an amazing private school. I probably wouldn't do it myself, but thank god some do.

Go Judy. Be proud. As a GB, I'm proud.

AmIthatHot · 25/06/2014 23:08

Limited I watched that programme last night and actually sobbed through it.

I watched the final on holiday last year and screamed the place down when he won. I had a fixed grin for the rest of the holiday

I love Andy Murray Grin

colleysmill · 25/06/2014 23:15

I think she comes across really well during tv interviews. I'd quite like to see her move into commentary at Wimbledon one day perhaps. Not that I'm planning her next career move or anything!!!

Weathergames · 25/06/2014 23:16

I bloody LOVE JM.

She's great leave her alone!

rootypig · 25/06/2014 23:22

Oh this is brilliant limited. Forgot Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler, the little scamps. Totally loving perving on Kim and Andy's house and her perfect hair Envy

His family seems so lovely. Love the pink cheeked cousins and grandps.

gamescompendium · 25/06/2014 23:26

Bigfootfiles thanks for linking to that, since I have a MIL that is definitely of the YokoOno persuasion I would fucking love to have a MIL who was that funny and fabulous. But since Andy and Jamie are closer in age to my daughter than me I'm gonna have to miss out. Sob.

OP, Judy is incredible. Have a Biscuit. I'll share the Cake with Judy.

WetAugust · 25/06/2014 23:35

A nasty mean-spirited post.

The woman has raised 2 Wimbledon champions and, from listening to her on Desert Island Discs, she sounds like a very nice person (even if her choice of music is crap).

There's always someone ready to have a pop at someone who has been successful in life.

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 23:38

Shame isn't it when women stick together to support other women? Mothers supporting other strong mothers.

Note to self op ,, must try harder to divide and conquer.

Go Judy.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 25/06/2014 23:44

I'm sure Judy Murray will be glad you aren't her DIL, if she ever finds this thread, and once she's stopped laughing.

Tinkerball · 25/06/2014 23:48

I suspect that some posters are overly protective mothers, who resent 'intruders' and are determined to fight for their position as No 1 in their DC's life.

What a leap! God knows how your mind figured that one out from the posts here!

Weathergames · 25/06/2014 23:52

I also loved the bit in the documentary where she said she moved seats at the final as she couldn't beard to hear the opponents family cheering against her son and she was "fuming" with Chris Hoy for handing out the shortbread like it was a "picnic" Grin

Bambambini · 26/06/2014 00:10

I hate that the press tried to make Judy Murray a hate figure.

Was at the final last year (sitting opposite Gerry - and Bradley) - bloody amazing. Remember it looked like he had forgotten his mum at the end and I was screaming "Don't forget your mum!". Was so relieved when he climbed back up to give her a hug!

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 26/06/2014 07:11

I have never had an opinion one way or another about Judy but taking part in this thread has confirmed me as a fan!!

Itsfab · 26/06/2014 07:35

WHAT BAD PRESS?

LittleMissDisorganized · 26/06/2014 07:43

Oh dear....

Fed Cup Captain
Trustee to various charities including the Elena Baltacha academy
Manager
Coach

Um... mother? - maybe after all the above - is her qualification? She could probably commentate far more too, the BBC would hand over the money I'm sure! I wonder if the press would say the same stuff about Uncle Tony?

I think you've fallen for the journalistic spin on this one OP - I get the impression that Judy is probably strong enough not to care about it.

Bambambini · 26/06/2014 08:00

Bad press? I remember when Murray first came on the scene, the press delighted in printing pic after unflattering pic of Judy Murray - always with her mouth wide, shouting on Andy.

Murray was hated ny the press, why would they leave his mum out of the fun.

whattheseithakasmean · 26/06/2014 08:10

I remember the press hate of Andy Murray before he won Wimbledon & to be fair plenty on Mumsnet were very 'anti-Andy' as well - I think his crimes were being too Scottish, not sufficiently good looking, and not having a glib meedja 'personality'. I remember the threads of people not wanting him to win Wimbledon, because they gave me the rage.

I suspect the OP has just hopped onto the Mumsnet anti-Murray bandwagon too late as it has rolled on and it appears fickle Mumsnet loves him now.

I am glad there is so much support of Andy Murray and posters are defending his mum, but I do remember it was not ever thus on Mumsnet, so the self congratulatory tone of this thread is a touch ironic.
