I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

Christ on a bike.

She doesn't prance, but if she wants to, it's not a crime.
She doesn't behave disgracefully, though after reading this thread I bloody wish she would.

She is a person, not just someone's mother.

Pumpkinpositive · 25/06/2014 21:09

I suspect that some posters are overly protective mothers, who resent 'intruders' and are determined to fight for their position as No 1 in their DC's life.

I keep parrots, not kids. But you got one thing right - I am definitely number one in their lives. Grin

And yes, grow disgracefully, but there is a world of difference between completely privately and on the world stage

It has yet to be established that there is anything "disgraceful" in serving coffee to tennis fans or appearing on a dance competition.

Furthermore, how can you do anything "disgracefully" in private? The whole concept of "disgrace" involves a public showing, surely? Confused

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/06/2014 21:10

ah rooty there you are wrong...she's not a person...she must remain invisible because she is....shh...((whispers))....a woman...over 50...who dares to ....erm...do stuff in public.
jeez

ExcuseTypos · 25/06/2014 21:13

Judy needs to be sat at home watching her son on TV, whilst knitting. How dare she show her face publically.

Is that the kind of thing you think she ought to do OP?

Dolcelatte · 25/06/2014 21:14

Parents are entitled to embarrass their offspring , of course; it is part of the job description - but would you honestly want to?

Men make fools of themselves and women are equally entitled to do so - that's equality.

I think some of you are reading too much into my post. I didn't realise - honestly - that Judy had attracted bad press. I just got the impression from reading recent press reports that she seems a bit self obsessed and trying to cash in on Andy's success. However, I won't be losing any sleep about whether I am right or wrong!

ExcuseTypos · 25/06/2014 21:15

Did anyone listen ot her on Desert Island Discs on Sunday, I thought she was fantastic.

ExcuseTypos · 25/06/2014 21:17

"Cashing in on his successes" what you mean raising the profile of tennis in the UK? How very dare she! She needs to know her place!

Pumpkinpositive · 25/06/2014 21:18

Parents are entitled to embarrass their offspring , of course; it is part of the job description - but would you honestly want to?

When I was kid/teenager, my parents embarrassed me by merely existing.

I'm sure they didn't mean to, but the alternative was... ?

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 25/06/2014 21:19

I'm sure she's doing strictly because she thinks it'll be fun, and doesn't care what anyone else might or might not think of that.

Andy is 26. If he was that fussed by his mother, he wouldn't invite her to Wimbledon etc. Really.

gordyslovesheep · 25/06/2014 21:19

serving coffee is embarrassing your kids Hmm

Timeandtune · 25/06/2014 21:20

Yes I listened to her on DID. Loved her music choices. The Singing Kettle and the Bay City Rollers!

Bunnyjo · 25/06/2014 21:24

I would love to see Judy Murray on Strictly!

I realise that may not strictly Grin be the point of the OP, but after reading the whole thread through I am struggling to see what point the OP was trying to make...

Welshwabbit · 25/06/2014 21:25

I've always thought that Judy Murray is a bit unfairly maligned. Never understood it. The shot of her after Andy won Wimbledon last year, shoulders heaving, proper sobbing, had me in tears too. I think she always comes across well in interviews, and she is clearly very dedicated not only to her sons, but to UK tennis in general.

And it has to be said that if all mothers avoided doing anything that embarrassed their twenty-something sons, they probably wouldn't leave the house! There'd definitely be no dancing at weddings for starters...

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 25/06/2014 21:26

I think her point was, "Older women! Know your place!"

casperandjasper · 25/06/2014 21:28

Yabu and judgemental.

I feel sad reading this thread, are we really in 2014?
I'm in my 50's and like JM have 2 sons - I hope I've done half the job that she has in bringing them up.
She's a strong, witty, successful woman and a fabulous role model.
I think you need to have a look at what she's doing for tennis and forget about the publicity stunts.
(And why shouldn't she appear on Strictly?)

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 21:29

Cash in on his success? She co-authored his success.

You've picked a subject a bit out of your comfort knowledge zone haven't you Dolce?

Try the next page of the ES?

HavantGuard · 25/06/2014 21:32

I am so sick of people posting bizarre, negative shit about women they don't even know.

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:32

The Op has no point to make. She's plainly in ignorance of much of the widely published information about Ms Murray and unfortunately lacks the wit and sensitivity to be aware of that and adjust her posting accordingly.

I would love to have some time with her to ask her what the deuce she thinks she's doing? That might serve some purpose but who knows what volley of nonsense I would have to withstand as we tried to work out a baseline to move on from?

Grin
flippinada · 25/06/2014 21:34

Judy Murray is ace

Sorry, but someone had to say it Grin.

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:36

I think somebody already did........

Not a backhanded compliment though Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 25/06/2014 21:36

Grin MrsMaturin

Maybe the OP is trying to rally her thoughts and will be back soon?

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 21:36
MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:37

You mean she will return?

Pumpkinpositive · 25/06/2014 21:38

Judy Murray is ace

Sorry, but someone had to say it

Someone else already double bageled you to it.

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:39

Replay the point!
