To be glad Judy Murray isn't my MIL?

I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

OP posts:
noddyholder · 26/06/2014 08:14

I am not keen on him but think she can do as she pleases wrt her own career.

shakethetree · 26/06/2014 08:15

I'm sure she's lovely - but from what I've seen of her at Wimbledon I find her very annoying - you can be supportive without opening your mouth wider than something that's really wide.

Bambambini · 26/06/2014 08:17

I support my kids in their little local sports. If I had a child competing at that level - I'd make JM look positively tame.

shakethetree · 26/06/2014 08:18

& Wimbledon isn't the same without Tim Henman.

ExcuseTypos · 26/06/2014 08:19

I too remember all the Murry hatred. It escalated when the press(them again) took his remark about him supporting anyone but England to win the World Cup completely out of context.

At the time he was sat next to Tim Henman and Tim had been ribbing him about Scotland not qualifying when Andy made the England comment. Somehow the press forgot to mention that it was all banter and this effectively led to Andy being disliked by a lot of people.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 26/06/2014 08:22

Whatthese, there are something like 600,000 registered users of MN, and no more than 100 posting in this thread. To imply that posters on this thread are hypocritical because some other posters in the past didn't like Murray is odd.

By the way, there are still people on the Wimbledon thread who don't like Murray, as there are people on that thread who don't like Djokovic etc. There's not a MN position on Andy Murray and, even if there was, it would be independent of a MN position on Judy Murray (who is the subject of the thread)

AbbeyBartlet · 26/06/2014 08:32

I note the comments; I still don't see why she wants to go on 'Strictly' if she is a serious individual and sportswoman - isn't that for failed politicians and the wannabes like Nancy Delorio?

Mark Ramprakash is a serious sportsman and people had no problem with him doing Strictly. They have plenty of serious and successful people.

whattheseithakasmean · 26/06/2014 09:01

BillnTed I was remarking on the self congratulatory tone of this thread, which is ironic on a site that has done more than its fair share of Murray bashing. I particularly enjoyed the wide-eyed 'What bad press?' question, which was posed more than once to the OP....

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 26/06/2014 09:14

That was largely because the OP claimed ignorance of such press then went on to talk about the press she'd read, congratulated herself on reading the ES not the DM, though both are from the same stable etc.

Anyone posting similarly about any subject would get sarcastic replies.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 26/06/2014 09:22

More than once by the same person, whattheseithakasmean. And I don't think it was being posed to the OP, because the OP said that she wasn't aware of any bad press.

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/06/2014 09:48

"I didn't realise - honestly - that Judy had attracted bad press. I just got the impression from reading recent press reports that she seems a bit self obsessed and trying to cash in on Andy's success."

Oh, the irony Grin.

PorkPieandPickle · 26/06/2014 11:02

"Growing old disgracefully" and "embarrassing her sons" Shock

What has she done that's sooooo bad? and sooo much worse than every other woman her age in the public eye?

Have I stepped into some weird fucked up parallel universe here?

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 26/06/2014 11:15

Wait, the OP has actually been on MN for a while? Is the goady troll infection spreading?

PastaandCheese · 26/06/2014 11:26

Bambanbini totally agree! Me too!

In fact, if my DS won Wimbledon the press would be treated to a pic of me dying of pride on the spot.

OneStepForwardTwoBack · 26/06/2014 12:24

We listened to her interview on Desert Island Discs the other night. It was really interesting and she was nice. Listen to it.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 26/06/2014 16:46

So, learning ballroom dancing on the BBC is growing old disgracefully, talking about music on the bbc isn't, have I got that right?

Grin
trevortrevorslattery · 26/06/2014 16:53

YABU as she is awesome

AlwaysLookOnBrightsideOfLife · 26/06/2014 17:15

Haven't rtft.

She always seems to come across well on TV & in documentaries. Seems like a nice lady.

I don't know how I didn't know her first name was Judy though, despite seeing her in so many different things Blush

grovel · 26/06/2014 17:25

She won't be on Strictly.

RinseyMinceySpider · 26/06/2014 17:39

OP must be Murray's gf

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 26/06/2014 19:48

Why not grovel?

Fideliney · 26/06/2014 19:56

That looked like you were addressing the OP when I saw it in active convos Exit [gri]

Fideliney · 26/06/2014 19:56

ahem Grin

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 26/06/2014 19:57

PastaandCheese · 27/06/2014 09:24

She is on Radio 4 now and yet again I am howling listening to her talk about the Dunblane shootings.
