To be glad Judy Murray isn't my MIL?

I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

A slice of this thread some put her right...

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:40

It's a smash alright!

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:41

I shouldn't be allowed out when puns are in play

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 25/06/2014 21:41

"I am so sick of people posting bizarre, negative shit about women they don't even know."

Game, set, match and Championship to Havant.

MrsMaturin · 25/06/2014 21:45

Good to see the rain has not stopped play Grin That would have forced us to resurrect a classic thread from 1996 AND have Cliff lead us in a rousing sing song.

scottishmummy · 25/06/2014 21:46

I think she comes across supportive, ambitious for son and quite grounded
No one ever says that david beckham dad was pushy for sending son to football academy
This is the misognistic shite levelled at women,as pushy.whereas men ambitious

TalkinPeace · 25/06/2014 21:49

I would LOVE to be as fit and lean as her when I'm 54 ....

she has raised two incredibly successful boys, after coming so close to losing them both in 1996

she is not old : she is fit and active and has actually DONE stuff - more than most of the microlebs that people drone on about

flippinada · 25/06/2014 21:50

Darn it. That's my stock of Judy Murray tennis puns all used up.

I'll just have to watch everyone else batting back and forth.

Wasn't Judy Murray slated for missing one of Andy's matches to support Laura Robson, who she also manages? She can't win, can she.

Personally, watching Judy Murray vs Yoko Ono on Twitter is always entertaining. I love her a bit for this.

rootypig · 25/06/2014 21:53

I think some of you are reading too much into my post.

I think you're reading too little into it, OP.

Anyway the ES is a hateful conservative rag, so ditch that and set yourself on the path to righteousness.

scottishmummy · 25/06/2014 21:53

I like judy murray, she unfairly pilloried in a way father of athletes/footballer isn't

BIWI · 25/06/2014 21:55

Quite apart from anything else, the process that contestants go through on Strictly is pretty gruelling. And learning to dance is a real skill. Yes, there are always clown figures, like Ann Widdecombe and John Sergeant, but the rest of the contestants work really hard to learn and develop something really complicated and skilful. Why shouldn't Judy do that, especially as she's a real fan of the show?

And the notion that she's cashing in on her son's success is risible.

scottishmummy · 25/06/2014 21:57

Jamie and andy success directly attributable to her coaching, and their respective endeavours

BIWI · 25/06/2014 21:58

Exactly, scottishmummy. They wouldn't be where they are now without her endeavours and commitment

Showy · 25/06/2014 21:58

My MIL served coffee to DH's friends at his 30th birthday. I knew I should have kicked the disgraceful bitch in the shin. She's 53 fgs. I wanted her locked in a cupboard at 45 but oh no, DH was all "I love her, she's my mother" and shit.

Tentedjuno · 25/06/2014 21:59

I am not a tennis fan, nor was I interested in Judy M, but having heard her on Desert Island Discs, I shall certainly rooting for her should she participate in Strictly.

Funny, self deprecating, a mum many a boy woud be grateful for.

I feel like saying fuck off to absolutely no one in particular but hate hate goady silly mysogynistic crap threads.

Just an observation here.

I like Judy Murray, I think she's done a fabulous job with her sons; I wouldn't mind her as a mil at all, other than maybe I'd have a self induced inferiority complex!

She's a strong, independent, strident woman and it pisses me right off that those qualities apparently equal 'embarrassing harridan' to some (like the OP).

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 22:04

Btw i am 50 and so freaking hot. Far far hotter than I was in my baby making days.

I run my own business too so not quite decrepit yet.

Funny funny comments.

AmIthatHot · 25/06/2014 22:04

FFS. OP. That's all I can really add.

Ah, so the OP thinks that Judy has double faulted by possibly signing up to ball room dancing and by serving coffee? She should know her place and realise that her love of her sons mean she has to stay at the baseline and let her boys stay in the forecourt of the media.

Well, I think Judy has smashed it by being a strong, independent and successful woman. In fact you could say she's ace!

The OP has lobbed a few attempts at getting the score back to deuce, but maybe, after seeing the rally of posters saying she's BU, the OP should pay Judy a backhand-ed compliment, realise that she has served a fault with this thread and concede game, set and match...
