To be glad Judy Murray isn't my MIL?

I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 25/06/2014 20:16

Sports people go on strictly , sorry about that upload god knows what I pressed

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/06/2014 20:16

"embaraased bu her"
ODFOD
Goady bollocks.

drudgetrudy · 25/06/2014 20:16

Well just withdraw from life at 55 then, OP

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2014 20:17

Do you think the williams sisters are embarrassed by their dad

HumphreyCobbler · 25/06/2014 20:18

Yes, I saw in the Times that she was saying she attracts vitriol solely due to the fact she is a woman. No one would speak of her in this way were she a father.

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 20:18

Well just withdraw from life at 55 then, OP

Or stop serving coffee at 55? Confused

drudgetrudy · 25/06/2014 20:20

In fact you're just embarrassing yourself NOW so withdraw at this point!

Pagwatch · 25/06/2014 20:20

Hmm.

You really are being odd now.

What on earth is embarrassing about her.
She is smart, funny, happy to laugh at herself, professional, highly competitive and successful.

Is she supposed to be at home being annonymous?
Women over 50. Just don't attract notice. Step back.

Jesus Christ.

I suspect her boys are wise enough to understand exactly what she did for them and not quite shallow enough to worry about sniping.

gordyslovesheep · 25/06/2014 20:21

I think they love her and are proud of her

I suspect you have some issues around mothers and sons OP and you are projecting a little

She's ace (sorry)

Pagwatch · 25/06/2014 20:22

"She's ace (sorry)"

Haha

pictish · 25/06/2014 20:23

What does the woman think she's doing being seen in public, and at her age!
Yes...I'm sure her sons are just mortified by their successful, attractive, dedicated, ambitious mother and her current popularity.

Or you know...not.

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 20:23

Have I in fact missed something significant?

Did she actually knock Kim Sears to the ground and serve coffee to the queue in the buff?

drudgetrudy · 25/06/2014 20:25

Brill Fideliney!

Pumpkinpositive · 25/06/2014 20:26

I get that she loves her sons, but I still suspect that they are embarrassed by her.

Andy is definitely embarrassed by her. Not at the tea making (the shameless wee hoor!) but by her oft declared lust admiration of Feliciano Lopez's charms.

So what? Maybe she's embarrassed by his tendency to dissolve into paroxysms of snivelling at the drop of a racket.

Either way, I'm sure both will cope. Smile

I'm all for growing old disgracefully but I wouldn't want to do it publicly and embarrass my DC.

Serving coffee to people constitutes "growing old disgracefully?" Are you posting from Sudan? Hmm

JenniferJo · 25/06/2014 20:27

I really wouldn't want to be the OP's MiL. Paranoid or what?

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 20:28

Well I'm assuming there was nothing strange about the coffee serving drudge but.... Confused

RiverTam · 25/06/2014 20:29

you wanted to 'reassure people that you don't read the DM'. The point I'm making is that the ES is no better than the DM. Same old shite.

LucilleBluth · 25/06/2014 20:31

Andy was interviewed in the Sunday Times magazine a few weeks ago, the reporter brought the strictly thing up, he said something like 'god I hope not, I won't be watching'.......but seeing as it's nothing to do with him she seems to not give a toss and is going ahead.

EBearhug · 25/06/2014 20:31

I think she's just covering the "embarrassing your children" part of the parent role there, all-round parenting...

Given all the things she's involved in, I'm surprised she has time to serve coffee! Her Desert Island Discs is well worth a listen.

rootypig · 25/06/2014 20:35

Confused

Where are you planning to be disgraceful OP? In your bathroom, alone?

Itsfab · 25/06/2014 20:36

Harsh, silly and incorrect given that Andy isn't engaged.

daisychain01 · 25/06/2014 20:38

I'll risk going against the flow here but ...

I can 'go with the flow' that she is a successful woman in her own right, done lots for tennis, she's not the MIL, all that kinda stuff.

BUT

I'll reserve final judgement until (or IF) Andy gets married to his gorgeous GF Kim - if Judy prances around on their wedding day wearing a white dress and grabbing all the attention, I'll be feeling pretty damn sorry for his bride. I do sometimes think Judy is a tad over-confident and pushy ....

PeachandRaspberry · 25/06/2014 20:38

Judy Murray has visited my friend's school in the East End of Glasgow twice, bringing coaches and equipment to keep. My friend says she was wonderful with the kids and altogether a lovely lady.

YABU.

rugbychick · 25/06/2014 20:40

I would be more than happy to have her as a MIL. July seems great, and know her stuff with regards to tennis. Anyway, isn't it in a parents job description to be an embarrassment to their children, whatever their age? They all just happen to be in the public eye

Fideliney · 25/06/2014 20:43

Snort @ rooty
