I know it's been done to death but........ How much alcohol do you REALLY drink? And how much to you say you do in RL?

Just asking as I sit with my 2 nd glass of wine and plans for more. Since DS was around 9 m, I've found old drinking habits increasing.

I have half a glas to toast at special occasions. maybe 3/4 times a year.
when asked I usually say that I don't drink at all.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/06/2014 20:06

I don't drink, and I say I don't drink. I would be concerned about anyone who felt the need to lie about their consumption in RL.

Bumpandkind · 20/06/2014 20:06

But how do you unwind? Wink

Probably about a bottle of wine a week, spread out over Friday to Sunday evenings, and maybe a beer one night as well. Not a massive drinker, but far from a tee totaller.

CantEvenKeepAnOrchidAlive · 20/06/2014 20:08

I don't really drink. Never during the week, maybe a strawberry cider once a month. Often DP buys a 4 pack of lager and I never bother.

I go out with friends for a drink or 2 once every few months. I haven't been drunk since my friends birthday last December.

Artichokes · 20/06/2014 20:08

I drink if out with friends, or out to dinner, so probably once a week. How much depends who I am with but usually around three glasses of wine. I hardly ever drink at home except if we have people round. If its just DH and I we may have a glass of wine with a special meal but that probably happens around once a month.

I don't really drink. That's what if say in RL too. I like the idea of drinking but don't actually ever fancy doing it much. But then again I've been pregnant/bf for a years or so it seems.

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 20/06/2014 20:09

I tell people that I drink around 12 units a week which is quite accurate unless I have a rare night out and then it's my usual 14 units plus another 10.

iklboo · 20/06/2014 20:09

These days, hardly anything. Maybe a bottle of wine between us once a month. Probably a bottle of wine & a couple of vodkas/gins if we're seeing friends (every couple of months or so).

Bumpandkind · 20/06/2014 20:09

dog. Why can't you bring yourself too? Does it seem sad and lonely or a bit of a slippery slope?

The only time I've really been asked is when filling out forms for drs etc. I usually put '1 unit a week'. in reality I think I sprinkle much less than that on average (I only drink on special occasions- last time I touched an alcoholic drink was Christmas/new year). But I worry that if I put '0 units' that will be taken as teetotal, and I'm not.

EBearhug · 20/06/2014 20:10

I have around 4 drinks a year, and generally just say I don't drink.

I unwind by swimming, yoga, reading, just watching trashy TV like Neighbours when I get in, lying back in a warm bath, sitting in the garden listening to birdsong, putting on some good music, meeting friends, chatting online... Drink never did relax me that much, it's all the other stuff which does.

HicDraconis · 20/06/2014 20:10

A bottle of wine a week at most. Some weeks I don't drink at all, others I drink more.

I rarely drink in the week, it's mostly Friday / Saturday nights. Occasionally I have a glass while making and eating dinner but not normally.

I wind down in the spa, or reading a book, or watching some tv, or knitting, or reading MN.

Cookiepants · 20/06/2014 20:11

Never drink at home. Variable at parties usually 1-5 units.

Watercolourfootballs · 20/06/2014 20:11

I'm the same or less that mousmous.

To be brutally honest if you are genuinely asking how we unwind without alcohol I'd be pretty concerned. If you my RL friend I'd be advising you to stop completely.

You shouldn't need a drink to unwind/or have a good time/ or in fact anything else.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 20/06/2014 20:11

Are you worried about your intake OP?

monkeyfacegrace · 20/06/2014 20:11

I've just finished my first bottle of pinot of the evening. I will probably have one more Grin

I have probably 3 bottles a week? Don't usually drink anything other than prosecco or champagne. Sometimes cider but I'm lo carbing so not at the moment

mynameisred · 20/06/2014 20:12

I hardly ever drink, maybe a glass of wine 3-4 times a year. When asked I just tell the truth (that I very rarely drink alcohol).

How I unwind: a cup of tea, go for a run, meditate.

You won't find drinkers posting on here, OP. Most people are too embarrassed to admit how much alcohol they drink.

I drink a bottle of wine to myself (in one sitting) once every 10 days to 2 weeks. That's the gospel truth.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 20/06/2014 20:13

A glass of wine or gin and tonic 3 nights a week. A second glass occasionally, tonight being one of those occasions as I am having a bit of me time after a hectic week.

When people ask I'll say, yes please, mines a large Sauvignon. Grin
