Just asking as I sit with my 2 nd glass of wine and plans for more. Since DS was around 9 m, I've found old drinking habits increasing.

At the moment, a Pimms or two when I get home from work.

Then a bottle of wine a night.

That sounds a lot but I like wine.

Bumpandkind · 20/06/2014 20:47

Thanks Chrohnically. His consultant (I think fond of a drop too) told him he could drink as much as he wanted!

None. I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely hate alcohol; it makes people do stupid things.

littlegreengloworm · 20/06/2014 20:49

I don't drink at the moment as pregnant. I usually drink a lot more than I tell people as dh doesn't drink, he doesn't get why I do. So I might have three when he thinks I've had one.

Also if he's out at football or something prior to pregnancy, I would have had a couple.

Nothing major but it's a bit like my secret sweet eating habit.

DeWee · 20/06/2014 20:49

I quite like a glass of cider. I probably have that on average once a month. We get a little bottle between me and dh and have a glass each and end up with a glass left neither of us wants so we save it for gravy. Sometimes we let the dc have a mouthful each instead.

When I'm at my dp then I'll sometimes have half a glass as they make wine and df likes people to try it. So I do to please them, but I'm not that bothered.

I think the last time I had something alcoholic to drink was the week before Easter when we shared a bottle of cider. But we did do that twice that week, as we were away.

GreenPetal94 · 20/06/2014 20:50

0 units about 3 nights a week. 2-5 units the other nights. But I do know my glass of wine is 2 units not 1. It does vary a lot. And if I go out I might drink a whole bottle of wine, but that is unusual.

I tend to say I drink 10 units a week when asked. This is true some weeks. The question really annoys me actually as I'm not at the nurses to discuss my drinking. They don't ask you whether you take drugs or do dangerous sports or take a lot of sexual partners (I don't!)

Branleuse · 20/06/2014 20:50

i drink every night. maybe 2 or 3 glasses of wine. If its the weekend or on holiday or im. definitely not driving later. i may have a drink during the day.

I drink too much.

Branleuse · 20/06/2014 20:51

i do love it though

hollycomputer · 20/06/2014 20:53

Being a hardened City worker, alcohol has been an integral part of my life for 15 years. It became kind of an issue a few years ago when I had severe stress and depression but I've tried to bring it under more control. I used to be drunk every night of the week (i.e. a bottle of wine +). I now try not to drink during the week unless I have a work night out but weekends are a bit mental.

I still drink too much but when pushed for number of units I lie and give a number just over the national average.

Bunbaker · 20/06/2014 20:54

"That sounds a lot but I like wine."

Because it is. Given that the average bottle of wine contains 9 units of alcohol you are consuming 63 units of alcohol a week plus whatever is in the Pimms. Not being judgy BTW, just giving facts.

PrincessBabyCat · 20/06/2014 20:55

I'm a social drinker, I just don't really have a desire to drink it alone, no moral reason. If it's just me and DH we don't have any alcohol. It's boring to drink by myself seeing as how any sort of alcohol makes me want to start talking, making everyone my new best friend and telling them all my life story. So being alone with alcohol just makes me talk incessantly to DH who tunes me out.

I unwind by taking a nap or bubble bath while DH watches baby. :)

bluesbaby · 20/06/2014 20:56

I'm a binge drinker. I know it's bad, but I still enjoy getting drunk with friends, drinking shots and enjoying different spirits. If I really go for it I may have 10-15 drinks on a night out. Nights out probably average once every 6-8 weeks at the moment. It was less a couple of years ago.

I also may drink half a pint of beer or one martini or one cider a week in the pub, especially in the summer. Maximum of 3 alcoholic drinks, mostly one or two.

In the summer I'm more likely to have one or two drinks a week at home - cider, g&t, rum & coke, or martini.

I can go ages without, months sometimes although it's been a while since I've had a stretch without. I enjoy it though so will probably never be teetotal. I may go to the pub 2-4 times a week, but most of those visits I'll just have juice or coke.
In the past 3 weeks I've had about 2/3units - half a glass of red wine and a half pint of guinness.

exWifebeginsat40 · 20/06/2014 20:56

i don't drink. i'm a recovering alcoholic. by the end i was drinking in the mornings, at work, all night....i lost everything - job, daughter, home and husband.

there is obviously a huge difference between a heavy drinker and an alcoholic. by the time i wanted to stop or even cut down i couldn't. i've had withdrawals so bad they nearly killed me and it still didn't stop me.

i've been mostly sober since last november, with a couple of relapses along the way. i'm stringing the days together like a demon at the moment, and genuinely love my sober life.

dawndonnaagain · 20/06/2014 20:59

I rarely drink, christmas and birthdays, the odd special occasion.

Montegomongoose · 20/06/2014 21:00

Totally agree. That's why I'm teetotal. And very relaxed!

Many of my friends need to unwind because they are constantly stressed by drinking -when can I have one? Is it safe with DC? How much can I have? What if we run out? Do I drink too much? What did I do last night? Do people think I drink too much? Etcetera.

I think if you're gebuinely at a loss how to unwind without drinking, it's time for a long hard look at your relationship with alcohol.

HowardTJMoon · 20/06/2014 21:09

I'll have a few beers when I'm having curry. It doesn't seem right to have curry without beer. And I'll have a few if I go out with friends but that doesn't happen very often (single parent, not much free time).

I used to drink more in my 20s and would drink probably three or four days a week with work colleagues and friends. Like most people, though, I grew out of it.

OHforDUCKScake · 20/06/2014 21:10

I could have written what SauvignonBlanche said.

Although Im cutting down totally in the week now, so will have wine with a friend tomorrow and thats it.

I drink less as I get older.

RufusTheReindeer · 20/06/2014 21:12

On a usual week

2/3 bottles of beer or a small glass of wine on a Friday

The same probably on Saturday

A drambuie on Sunday

That assumes no evenings out during the week, I drink during the week approximately once a month and then about a third of a bottle of wine maybe less

If I am trying to diet then I drink just on the Saturday

I don't lie about my intake, I don't see the point

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2014 21:13

I describe myself as almost teetotal.
I have a small glass of sweet wine about 5 times per year.
I unwind at the gym or with a book.

I've never found alcohol particularly enjoyable, not sure why.
From the age of 4, I was given a thimbleful of sherry or sloe gin after every Sunday lunch (this was 1960s)
After age 11, I didn't have any, because I thought it was a boring grownup taste like cabbage

CaptChaos · 20/06/2014 21:14

I don't drink ever really. I used to drink, but now I get such awful hangovers if I have more than about a glass of wine, I can't be arsed.

When I tell people that I don't drink they go from being shocked, as I am generally regarded as 'fun to be with' and then assume I am some sort of killjoy. I'm not. I really don't need a drink to enjoy myself and the plus side is that people who like a drink always have a designated driver and one who isn't going to sulk all night because they are!

My mother is an alcoholic. She can't see it, but she is. She thinks that she just likes a few glasses of wine in the evening, but the evening is starting earlier and earlier, the few glasses is becoming a few bottles and she is absolutely vile when she's had a drink. She gas lights and lies.

1 glass of wine on a Thursday, sometimes none. Half a bottle Friday & Saturday night. 2 glasses on Sunday while cooking dinner.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 20/06/2014 21:19

I drink fuckloads. It makes me happy.

I'm not off down the pub doing shots, but I'll get through a bottle of wine in an evening, no worries.

But usually always have my two drink free days a week... Wink
