Just asking as I sit with my 2 nd glass of wine and plans for more. Since DS was around 9 m, I've found old drinking habits increasing.

Blimey, you are all so good. I have nothing Sunday - Friday, then a bottle or two if i've got friends over Friday and Sunday. That's bottle of wine, not a bottle of beer.

I teach full time and if I didn't have a few BIG glasses of wine every Friday night I would a) continue working and never ever stop and b) just eat a ton of crap instead.

I am totally unapologetic about it. I like it. I enjoy it, i'm not a twat about it, and I don't "need" a drink on Sunday. Whilst pregnant and breastfeeding ( which lasted for 3.5 years without a break) I was teetotal and fine. I can do long stints without out. Every September and and Januray I do a month without any booze, mainly because teaching pressure is so high then. But I LOVE my Friday wine. I buy a really nice bottle and look forward to it.

I must be a hideous old alcy.

Sallystyle · 20/06/2014 21:19

One shot of malibu with dinner when I go out for a meal.

I guess that works out about 1-2 shots a month.

I say I am almost Teetotal.

As I have said here before many times. Alcohol does not give me a nice feeling or relax me and I hate being around drunk people. The one I have is simply for the taste and I have it with a meal so I can't feel the effects of it at all.

I don't understand people who drink glasses of wine in the evening or go out at weekends and get stupidly drunk. I know, each to their own and all that; I just don't understand the appeal.

Mrsfrumble · 20/06/2014 21:24

I drink most evenings. I'll open a bottle of beer while DH is bathing the children, and will drink it slowly over the evening. It's the hottest part of the day here, and the beer is cold and refreshing, and I do feel like it helps me unwind a bit, but as it's only 3% alcohol volume (due to some odd licensing laws you can't buy strong beer in supermarkets here) that may be psychological.

At weekends I'll share a bottle of wine with DH in the evenings. I have no idea how many units that is....

ashtrayheart · 20/06/2014 21:24

Not had a drink for nearly 5 weeks now Grin because I'm doing a vlcd and trying to get slim. I also needed to stop drinking so much so it's double whammy. I have a love hate relationship with alcohol anyway so the less I drink the better.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/06/2014 21:25

I used to drink a bottle and a half of wine a week, plus cider. This was spread over 3 nights. I work 3 nights a week otherwise I would have drunk more frequently I think.

I stopped when I dieted last year and I've not drunk much since. This year I drank wine on holiday at half term, that's the only alcohol I've had. I plan to drink on my summer holiday but that's it.

I like not feeling like I 'need' a drink and not drinking helps keep my weight stable. Plus I run better when not drinking.

teaandthorazine · 20/06/2014 21:26

Alcohol does not give me a nice feeling or relax me

That's because you're drinking Malibu Grin

Your post is inspirational, really positive. Glad things are improving for you Flowers

justwondering72 · 20/06/2014 21:29

I don't generally drink anything mon- thurs. But that's quite a new thing, DH and I agreed that we'd got into a habit of drinking - a couple of small glasses with dinner - every night, and it was not good for our waistlines, health or wallets. Friday to Sunday, DH and I easily get through a bottle of wine with dinner each night and maybe a beer each after that. I think Ive only been properly pissed twice in 6.5 years since DS1 was born, which considering the amount I used to drink as a student is pretty amazing.

Drinking every single night is absoutely normal in my family. A glass of wine while cooking, another one with dinner, finish the bottle while doing the dishes. Then a couple of whiskies through the evening. That's normal for me. So to now be drinking something remotely close to the guidelines is quite a novelty tbh.

Pollywallywinkles · 20/06/2014 21:35

I never drink when I have work the next day, so as a maximum only drink on a Friday and Saturday night. I stick to no more than 2 small glasses of wine each night, that is if I drink both nights.

If anyone asks, I say I don't drink much.

DroppingIn · 20/06/2014 21:36

Nothing, still got 3 bottles of Prosecco in the fridge left over from New Year though I am partial to the odd ALCOHOL FREE raspberry or pear cider. Don't like the taste of the alcoholic one.

I really just don't like the taste of it at all since I got so rat faced as a teenager that I almost died of alcohol poisoning.

Bowlersarm · 20/06/2014 21:46

I never know how much to say I drink because it varies.

I have every third month totally alcohol free. Day 20 of no alcohol currently. DH drinks most nights, but is capable of stopping at one or two glasses of wine or bottles of beer. I'm always tempting to have another glass.

In the months I drink my rule is that I never drink alone, which I stick to. In an average week, when I'm drinking, DH and I share a bottle of wine 2 nights and have a bottle each 2 nights. I stick to 12% mainly so 9 units, therefore 27 units per week for two months then 0 units for a month.

If we are out, I normally drive and have one small glass. If I'm drinking not driving, I rarely drink more than a bottle of wine. The most I have ever had in all my years of drinking is about a bottle and a half of wine in one sitting. I don't drink spirits, or shots, or anything else other than wine really.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 20/06/2014 21:49

only when I go out which is hardly ever. but when I party, I party hard - a vodka and coke or two and I just go wild ;)

Mrsfrumble · 20/06/2014 21:50

I've just been on the DrinkAware website and worked out my weekly unit total and it's 13.8, which is fine apparently. I'd like to think it's possible to enjoy alcohol and drink it regularly without having a problem. I don't binge these days and haven't been drunk for years and years, but I do like the taste of (good) wine and ale and I do find it relaxing.

Maybe the feeling of being mature and civilized is relative to my late teens (binge drinking and recreational drugs) and my 20s (more binge drinking).

adalovelacelaptop · 20/06/2014 21:51

I drink less than I used to, probably two bottles of pinot grigio a week and a few gin and tonics, but I find my tolerance has decreased in my fifties. In my twenties a bottle and half every night more if I went out clubbing and I had a good job and studied for professional qualifications, but no kids. With kids now I wouldn't be able to hack it. My liver is fine, it was checked recently for other reasons and no alcohol damage done!

QueenofLouisiana · 20/06/2014 21:54

DH and I share a bottle of wine at the weekend- so usually a opulent of small glasses each night. Maybe a beer or a G&T during the week. I would say I drink about 6 units a week as that is fairly accurate.
I drink more on holiday, less at other times.

goeuffaw · 20/06/2014 22:00

share a bottle of wine with dp most nights,(dont drink if up at 6am next morning, which is about 4x per month) very occasionally, we go through two bottles, sometimes (maybe once a month) have one or two stella pear cidres midday, or before we open the wine, will also go through a half-bottle of brandy over 6-8 months. Quite enjoy a large vodka and tonic too

If it was up to me, I'd have a full bottle , plus , of wine to myself every night, especially prosecco Grin hic

maybe I should be worried... but I'm not Grin

CMOTDibbler · 20/06/2014 22:02

On average, 1 glass of wine a month. In the last month I've had a quarter of a glass of prosecco.

If asked I tend to say that alcohol doesn't mix with my pain meds - it makes me slurry, but mostly I just don't want to

YouTheCat · 20/06/2014 22:04

I reckon I drink about 8-10 units a week, spread over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I used to drink more. I have no problem with saying how much I drink in RL.

Shakey1500 · 20/06/2014 22:08

Tonight I've had about 3 glasses of wine (at home) due to an impromptu guest for dinner. Very nice it was too.

Don't usually drink at home and all in all probably have about 2 drinks a week in total (as in 2 separate drink, not two drinking sessions) unless it's a rare night out

And that's what I'd tell anyone who asked.

Wishfulmakeupping · 20/06/2014 22:10

I don't drink since getting pregnant with my dd who is now 16 mons. I used to drink much more than I admitted to- officially I drank one or two vodkas a few times a week - actually it was more like 4- 5 weekdays 6+ weekends. Feel so much better for it now I think I got used to waking up with a hangover if was the norm then

FlyingFig · 20/06/2014 22:12

More than I should. I binge drink on average 3 nights a week; either a bottle of wine, or 4-5 lagers or cider at a time. If it's a weekend I might have an extra drink on top.

More on nights out - however I rarely go out due to being a bit of a sociophobe, who downs drinks to feel comfortable, then goes on to making an absolute tit of myself (in my eyes, anyway) then hiding away for ages wishing I'd never drank so much worrying myself silly and over analysing the night for much longer than is healthy.

Ad infinitum.

littledrummergirl · 20/06/2014 22:17

I dont drink if I have to get up in the morning so generally that means I have a glass of something every other sat(I work every other).

I bought 6 bottles of wine at christmas and have 1 left, although the baileys has gone we still have some home made liquer left.

I am going out in a few weeks for the first time in a year and plan to get extremely drunk a little tiddley.
Feel sorry for my liver Grin

cashmiriana · 20/06/2014 22:17

Never. Don't like alcohol. DH doesn't drink either. I hated being treated like a social freak when younger because I was the only one not drinking. It is so much easier to share a house with someone else who doesn't drink.

BoomBoomsCousin · 20/06/2014 22:46

On average, 16 units a week. I know this because one year I added up every unit. It's usually two half bottles of wine over the weekend (9 units) and then more on special ocassions, which are fairly frequent.

I probably drank closer to 25 units 10 years ago, but have cut back, especially after having children, as it's slowly become less central to our social life.

BoomBoomsCousin · 20/06/2014 22:48

Ohh, and I tell people I drink a bottle to a bottle and a half of wine a week.
